Saturday, December 8th is the Feast of the Immaculate
Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a holy day of
obligation. We believe that God chose Mary to be the
Mother of Jesus Christ, the incarnate God, and that because of this unique vocation God preserved her free
from sin, full of grace, from the moment of her conception in her mother’s womb. No sin would touch her so
she would be a fitting and worthy vessel of the Son of
God. We gather this day to honor Mary of the Immaculate Conception as Patroness of the United States and
also to celebrate the sixth anniversary of the dedication
of our parish Church of St. Mary’s.

Virgen María y es un día de oobligación. Creemos que Dios escogió a María para ser

madre. El pecado no la tocó así ella ser el vaso perfecto y digno del Hijo de Dios. En

VIRTUS® Protecting God's Children Adult Awareness Session is a three-hour training
that helps clergy, staff, volunteers and parents to understand the facts and myths about child abuse; how perpetrators operate; and how caring adults can take five important steps to keep children safe. The parent session

Have you ever considered being a part of the Confirmation process in your parish? If so, we need you!

Spiritual Exercise—Understanding Sunday Readings
Just as physical exercise strengthens our bodies, spiritual exercise strengthens our faith. Personal prayer ideally flows from Sunday
Mass and back toward it in a weekly cycle of prayer. Also, we can greatly enhance our experience of Mass if we are spiritually prepared each week. This comes when we read Sunday’s readings ahead of time, and make this part of our personal prayer.
On the internet, there is a very useful website that can help you and your family or friends prepare each week for Sunday Mass: liturgy.slu.edu. On this site, you will find links to Sunday’s readings, prayers, spiritual reflections, and interesting explanations all based on
those readings. There is also a section that helps you pray with the music of the Mass. The material is designed for ordinary Catholics
of all levels of understanding – the people in the pews. Please consider spending a few minutes each week with this website as part

First Sunday of Advent December 2, YEAR C Luke 21:25-28, 3436 Wake Up Call
Why do we have Advent? You say, “I don’t know, it always just comes along,” or, “I don’t know, no one ever told me.” I have heard
these questions, answers and others, a number of times. Especially this one: if Christ has already been born, what is this Advent waiting about? Have we forgotten about his birthing? Strangely that is part of the answer. It has to do with his birth into our hearts and
also our forgetfulness. Our hearts get drowsy and lazy, tired out by the anxieties of daily life. Maybe we distract ourselves from our
troubles by working very hard, or becoming depressed, or becoming fascinated with drink, or sex, or out-of-control emotions, or gambling, or email, or golf, or surfing the web, or pride, or, or, or (you name yours). Whatever it is for you, the very clear message of Advent is, “Settle down for a while.” Open the door just a crack to let God in. The Church has a liturgical strategy in the Advent Sunday
readings. Each week’s First Reading is the carrot: usually positive, a promise of good. Then the Gospel hits you with a big stick to
wake you up. Take the encouraging First Reading this Sunday. It reminds us of the promise God has made to his people: rightness
and justice will come to the earth. Security. The day of the Lord will arrive, though long delayed. Peace in our day.
