Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. We come to the last
Sunday of the Church’s liturgical calendar. The most appropriate celebration the
faithful must observe to end the liturgical year is the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus
Christ, King of the Universe. This celebration is appropriate to cap all our celebrations
of the Sundays of the year, when we remember the resurrection of Christ. Every
Sunday celebration reminds us that the resurrection of Christ gave us eternal life. The
fulfilment of that covenantal gift is the ripening of God’s time, the Second Coming of
Christ. The Second Coming of Christ is also the reign of Jesus Christ as King of the
Universe. As we wait for that beautiful coming of age, we look forward to the things
that God has promised to all of us. This celebration invites us to be steadfast in faith,
hopeful in the love and grace of God and joyful in the blessings that God gives us at
all times.

Thanksgiving Day. This week is Thanksgiving Day. We celebrate the love of family and friends, the
abundance of food and blessings, and the peace of being one and strong nation.
Thanksgiving day is giving and receiving. We remember that in our need, in our emptiness, we open
our hands to receive gifts that are freely provided by generous hearts and hands. We also open our hands in our
abundance to share what we have to those who are in need.
Happy Thanksgiving Day to all!

In this issue, I would like to continue discussing points about the sanctuary area citing paragraphs 61
and 62 of the document Built of Living Stones. This part talks about the ambo and the proclamation of the
Word.
“ Par. 61. The central focus of the area in which the word of God is proclaimed during the liturgy is the
ambo. The design of the ambo and its prominent placement reflects the dignity and nobility of that saving
word and draws the attention of those present to the proclamation of the word. Here the Christian community
encounters the living Lord in the word of God and prepares itself for the ‘breaking of the bread’ and the
mission to live the word that will be proclaimed. An ample area around the ambo is needed to allow a
gospel procession with a full complement of ministers bearing candles and incense. The General Introduction
to the Lectionary recommends that the design of altar and ambo bear a ‘harmonious and close relationship’ to
one another in order to emphasize the close relationship between word and Eucharist. Since many share in the
ministry of the word, the ambo should be accessible to everyone, including those with physical disabilities.
Par. 62. The ambo can be designed not only for reading and preaching, but also for displaying the open
book of the Gospels or a copy of the Scriptures before and after the liturgical celebration.”

Liturgia.

Where All Are Welcomed and Loved With Mercy Day 252
Hunger and poverty also mean poor access to prenatal
care, leading to high maternal mortality. Maternal mortality has a precise definition: the death of a woman while
pregnant or within six weeks of the end of the pregnancy,
from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy.
Most maternal deaths can be prevented when births are
attended by skilled health personnel who are regularly supervised and have the proper equipment and supplies.

Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
Saint Catherine Laboure, Religious Mystic and
Visionary, France (1806-1876) - Nov 28
In Saint Catherine Laboure's time those who wore the
Miraculous Medal were saved from the cholera plaque and
many other miracles occurred. In 1842 Our Lady of the
Miraculous Medal appeared to Alphonse Risbonne, a
young Jewish man, who at 24years old had spent most of
his life mocking the Church. He was converted instantly
and later became a priest. Yearly countless miracles are
reported, miracles of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
These resplendent graces are given, Our Mother said, to all
who ask for them. In the words of Our Lady to Saint Catherine Laboure, "child you, too, will know sadness. But in
time of trial come here before the alter and pour out all your
troubles. There you will receive every consolation." (Copyright, Missionaries of the Blessed Sacrament.

Please join us for Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed
Sacrament. Adoration is available in the chapel 24 hours
every day. For adoration outside of the 24-hour regular
Thursday schedule, call the office for instructions and to
enlist. Everyone is welcome. Spend as much or as little
time as you can. Thank you for offering our Lord this special hour. Expect God's blessing, and give Him thanks.
Pray One! Knit One!

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
For good reason, Americans have been ambivalent
about “kings” for many years, even long before George
III’s troops were sent packing in 1776. To say Christ is our
King is to make a statement not about our politics, but
about the dignity of our own identity. At our baptism, the
crown of our head was once slathered (or at last dabbed)
with oil while the Church prayed “as Christ was anointed
priest, prophet and king, so may you live always as his
body.” To celebrate Christ’s kingship, then, is to claim our
own identity.
Your head was anointed just as Samuel poured oil over
David’s head. David had his gifts, but he was no prize, and
perhaps that might comfort you as you think about your
call, out of the messiness of your own life, to stretch into a
lifestyle that is marked by worship, by prophetic speech
and deeds, and the kingly ability to fashion a world (or at
least a patch of it) where relationships are marked by justice, mercy, and cultivation of the good. It is precisely because of this kingly role that our faith community has
something to say about the environment, about the dignity of human life, just wages, access to health care and education, the building of peace, and avoidance of war. In a
few weeks’ time we will hymn the coming of the
“newborn king,” but today we sketch out the meaning of
his reign, and our own incorporation into his work for the
life of the world.

Albany Helping Hands on the Radio
Your Council's Field Agent: Rob Duncan
Tuesday, November 24th 6 -10 AM
John Donovan, Development Director of Albany Helping Hands is proud to announce the first KGAL / KSHO Radiothon Fundraiser.
“We are pleased to form this partnership with Charlie Eads of Albany, owner of the two successful stations. The Home for the
Holiday’s Radiothon will emphasize the critical need for low income housing and services for the needy” noted Donovan who
further stated “We have been close to shelter capacity since spring and are currently sheltering 102 from the harsh environment.
Background: Albany Helping Hands is a faith-based 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation and an equal opportunity employer and provider. The proceeds from this fundraiser provide training and employment for shelter guests and help fund critical community missions that include but are not limited to providing emergency housing and food. We provide to the community hot meals three
times a day, serving 7,243 meals in October where everyone is welcome, even those not registered with the shelter.
Albany Helping Hands also provides training and employment for shelter guests operating a Thrift Store, the Garden Farm & Market, Keep Warm Wood Lot, and Vehicle Resale and Estate Cleanup units and also offers GED Training Classroom, housing searches,
transitional jobs programs, mental health referrals, counseling, clothing, household needs, and furniture. Donations are greatly
appreciated and can be made anytime at the shelter at 619 SE Ninth Avenue, Albany or mail your contributions to PO Box 2252,
Albany, OR 97321.
The on air fundraising talk will be mixed with the regular on air content for KGAL AM 1580 and KSHO AM 920 . The programming
won’t be stopped for long periods of fund raising chatter. The live broadcast will also be available for listening worldwide via the
station’s live web streams at www.kgal.com and www.ksho.net”.
