Alleluia! He is Risen
Dear Friends,
of its victory.
Christ demands a change, a different way of living. Passion, compassion
and mercy constitute life in Christ. In the Easter Gospels those that first
heard the good news of the Resurrection, immediately and urgently
conveyed the news to anyone who would listen. Allow their contagious
enthusiasm to infect you. As we are invited to live in newness of life,
let’s do so compassionately, passionately, mercifully and enthusiastically.
Break out your Glorias; unpack your Alleluias!
Jesus’ power over sin and death gives us reason
to sing. The great Easter hymn Resucitó asks a
proverbial question after boldly declaring in one
word the central message of the Christian faith: “He
is risen.” La muerte ¿dónde está la muerte? ¿Dónde está
mi muerte? ¿Dónde su Victoria? Jesus has robbed death

At the Easter Vigil, after hearing the seven beautiful accounts from
the Hebrew Scriptures of God’s hand in Salvation history, we listen to
Saint Paul’s confident address to the people of Rome. He says clearly,
“If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has
power over him.”
On this Easter weekend, please join me in welcoming our newly
initiated members of the Roman Catholic Church, Trevor Chalcraft,
Angelica Colon, Kristi Koegle, Michelle Pennington, Mayra Rodriguez,
Celines Santana, Todd Schoenherr, Kelci Scott and Tonia Valentin. Their
participation in the life of this great community will make it even more
rich. I pray that the Holy Spirit, who led them to our door, will continue
to direct their lives (and ours!). As we sing our Easter Alleluias, let’s let
the light of Christ’s Resurrection touch the darkness in our lives. Let’s
allow the power of Resurrection joy to wash over any sadness we may
possess. Let’s permit Easter hope to permeate our entire lives.
The past few days, even weeks, we have witnessed in the Gospels
a sense of competition, between good and evil, between life and death,
between God’s ways and the ways of the world. The Competition
heightened during the Paschal Triduum. From the Last Supper, to
the crucifixion, to the tomb, one might think that Jesus was losing
the contest, that evil was conquering good. In these difficult socioeconomic times, it might be easy to believe that the story ends on
Friday. So many people, this year more than ever, are feeling like they
are on the losing end, that they really could die, or have died, with Jesus.
Happy Easter,
The fact remains. In Baptism, we all die with Jesus. We die to
original sin; we die to an old way of life. That death offers life. On this
Easter weekend we rejoice and sing our long-lost alleluias because of
the life offered. At the beginning of the passage from his letter to the
Romans, Saint Paul asks, “Brothers and sisters: Are you unaware that we who
were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?” He reminds us
of God’s divine reasoning. “We were indeed buried with him through baptism
into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the
Father, we too might live in newness of life.” Jesus Wins! So do we.
P. S. I thank, in a special way, all that have made these Holy Week and
Easter liturgies so beautiful. Jennifer, Carlos, Jean, Nancy, Father Paul,
Maria, Jorge, Willie, Martha, Judy, Cathy…you know who you are.

CELEBRATE
EASTER EGG HUNT
When I was a kid, the family car died—and I was glad. The old car was
clunky! At the showroom, my brother Pat and I fell in love with a top-ofthe-line model. My parents said we couldn’t afford it. But we pleaded.
Dad warned if we bought that car, we’d have to scrimp and save. Mom
said there’d be no more going out to dinner. We kept pleading. Mom
and Dad relented. The deal was struck; as we drove away, the reality of
“scrimping and saving” began to hit home. But suddenly Dad looked at
Mom and she nodded. Dad pulled up to our favorite family restaurant.
Yes, we would be frugal in the days to come, but first we would celebrate
buying this shiny new car that would carry us into our future, together
as a family. —Tom McGrath
Saint John Berchmans Easter Egg Hunt will take place today, immediately
following the 9:45am and 11:15am Masses. Come out after Mass and
join us on the lawn. Parents, please be mindful that many small children
participate in this event. This is the perfect opportunity to share a lesson
in Christian charity with your children, by asking the older ones to help
the little ones. This way it will be enjoyable for all.
CANONIZATION SUNDAY/ANOINTING MASS
Please join us on Sunday, April 27th as we celebrate the Canonization
of Blessed Pope John XXIII and Blessed Pope John Paul II with a special
bilingual Anointing Mass at 6:30pm.
During this Mass, the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick will be available
for all who are suffering in mind or body. All others are invited to come to
pray with them and for them.
Easter Sunday
JOIN US AS WE CELEBRATE THE SACRAMENTS
Christ is risen! Alleluia! In the radiant dawn of the Resurrection,
the Church celebrates the promise of new life in Christ. The tomb is
empty, and the Cross that once symbolized shame and death has been
forever consecrated by the Blood of Jesus to be the sign of Christ’s
triumph over death and our redemption from sin.
Many of the students in both our school and Religious Education program
are in the final stages of preparing to receive Sacraments in the first week
of May. First Communions will be celebrated at the 5pm Mass on Saturday,
May 3rd and the 9:45am, 11:15am & 6:30pm Masses on Sunday, May 4th.
Confirmation will be celebrated at 6:30pm on Wednesday, May 7th. Please
keep these students in your prayers during these final weeks and consider
joining us at one or more of the Masses to share their Sacramental joy!
On Easter Sunday, the Church proclaims with joy the Good News
that Christ is alive through the words of the Easter Sequence, which
is sung prior to the proclamation of the Gospel. Currently, sequences
are sung to mark three sacred occasions during the Church year:
Easter, Pentecost, and Corpus Christi. On this Easter Sunday, may
these beautiful words resound in our hearts as we rejoice in the glory
of the risen Christ.

¡Aleluya! Él ha Resucitado
Queridos Amigos,
Me pregunto qué significa para usted vivir una vida renovada. Vivir
en Cristo exige un cambio, una forma diferente de vivir. La pasión, la
compasión y la misericordia constituyen la vida en Cristo. En los evangelios
de Pascua aquellos que escucharon por primera vez la buena noticia de la
Resurrección, transmitieron inmediata y urgentemente la noticia a quien
quisiera escucharlos. Permitan que su entusiasmo contagioso les infecte. Al
ser invitados a vivir una vida renovada, hay que hacerlo con compasión, con
pasión, con misericordia y con entusiasmo.
¡Exclame sus Glorias; suelte sus Aleluyas! El
poder de Jesús sobre el pecado y la muerte nos dan
razones para cantar. El gran himno de Pascua Resucitó
hace una pregunta proverbial después de declarar
audazmente en una palabra, el mensaje central de la
fe cristiana: “Él ha resucitado.” La muerte ¿Dónde está la
Muerte? ¿Dónde está mi Muerte? ¿Dónde Su Victoria? Jesús
ha robado a la muerte su victoria.
Si ustedes asisten aquí por primera vez este fin de semana, por
favor, sepan que son bienvenidos. ¡Todos son bien recibidos en San Juan
Berchmans! Considere la posibilidad de hacer esta parroquia su hogar
espiritual. La gente de San Juan Berchmans está realmente viva en el amor
de Cristo. Aquí ocurren cosas grandes. Únanse a nosotros. Formen parte de
la victoria. Formen parte de nuestra comunidad parroquial. Compártanse

En este fin de semana de Pascua, por favor, demos la bienvenida a

de Pascua, vamos a dejar que la luz de la resurrección de Cristo toque la
oscuridad en nuestras vidas. Permitamos que la energía de la alegría de la
Resurrección alivie cualquier pena que podamos tener. Dejemos que la
esperanza de Pascua penetre nuestra vida entera.
En los últimos días, incluso semanas, hemos atestiguado en los
Evangelios un sentido de competencia entre el bien y el mal, entre la
vida y la muerte, entre los caminos de Dios y los caminos del mundo. La
competencia se intensificó durante el Triduo Pascual. Desde la Última Cena,
hasta la crucifixión, hasta la tumba, uno podría pensar que Jesús estaba
perdiendo la competencia, que el mal conquistaba el bien. En esta difícil
época, económica y social, puede ser que sea fácil creer que la historia
termina el viernes. Así que muchas personas, este año más que nunca,
sienten como si estuvieran perdiendo la lucha, que en realidad podrían
morir, o han muerto, con Jesús.
El hecho sigue siendo el mismo. En el Bautismo, todos morimos con
Jesús. Morimos al pecado original, morimos a una antigua forma de vida.
Esa muerte ofrece vida. En este fin de semana de Pascua nos alegramos y
cantamos nuestras aleluyas olvidadas por largo tiempo, a causa de la vida
ofrecida. Al inicio del pasaje de su carta a los Romanos, San Pablo pregunta:
“Hermanos y hermanas: ¿Saben que aquellos que han sido bautizados en Jesucristo
han sido bautizados en su muerte?” El nos recuerda de la lógica divina de Dios.
“Fuimos en realidad sepultados con Él a través del bautismo para que, así como Cristo
fue resucitado de entre los muertos por la gloria del Padre, nosotros también vivamos
una vida renovada.” ¡Gana Jesús! Nosotros también.

CRIANDO HIJOS CREYENTES UNA PALABRA A LA
VEZ...
CELEBRAR
Cuando era niño, el auto de la familia se descompusó y me dio mucho
gusto. ¡El auto viejo estaba destartalado! En la sala de muestras, mi
hermano Pat y yo nos enamoramos de un modelo muy moderno.
Mis padres dijeron que no teníamos el dinero para pagarlo pero les
suplicamos. Papá nos advirtió que tendríamos que escatimar y ahorrar
si comprábamos ese auto. Mamá dijo que ya no iríamos a comer fuera.
Nosotros seguimos suplicando. Mamá y papá cedieron y se cerró el
trato. Mientras conducíamos de regreso, el “escatimar y ahorrar”
se hacía realidad. Pero de repente, papá miró a mamá y asintió. Papá
estacionó el auto en nuestro restaurante favorito. Sí, ahorraríamos de
hoy en adelante, pero primero celebraríamos por haber comprado
este nuevo auto que nos llevaría al futuro juntos, como familia. —Tom

BÚSQUEDA DE HUEVOS DE PASCUA
San Juan Berchmans tendrá una Búsqueda de Huevos de Pascua hoy
inmediatamente después de las misas de 9:45am y de 11:15am. Venga después
de la misa y únase a nosotros en el césped. Padres, por favor tengan en cuenta
que muchos niños pequeños participan en este evento. Ésta es la oportunidad
perfecta de compartir una lección de caridad cristiana con sus niños, pidiendo a
los mayores que ayuden a los más pequeños. De esta manera todos se divierten.
DOMINGO DE CANONIZACIÓN / MISA DE UNCIÓN
Por favor unase a nosotros el domingo 27 de abril ya que celebramos la
Canonización del Beato Papa Juan XXIII y Beato Papa Juan Pablo II con una
especial Misa Bilingüe de Unción a las 6:30 pm.
Durante esta Misa, el Sacramento de la Unción de los Enfermos estará
disponible para todos los que sufren mental o físicamente. Todas las personas
están invitados a venir a orar con ellos y por ellos.

ACOMPÁÑENOS DURANTE LA CELEBRACIÓN DE LOS
SACRAMENTOS
Muchos de los estudiantes en nuestra escuela y del Programa de Educación
Religiosa están en las etapas finales de preparación para recibir los Sacramentos
en la primera semana de mayo. Las Primeras Comuniones se celebrarán
durante las Misas el sábado, 3 de mayo a las 5pm y el domingo 4 de mayo a las
9:45am, 11:15am & 6:30pm. La Confirmación se celebrará el miércoles, 7 de
mayo a las 6:30pm. ¡Por favor mantenga a estos estudiantes en sus oraciones
durante estas últimas semanas y considere unirse a nosotros en una o más de
las Misas para compartir su alegría Sacramental!
¡Cristo ha resucitado! ¡Aleluya! El alba radiante de la resurrección, la iglesia
celebra la promesa de vida nueva en Cristo. La tumba está vacía y, la Cruz,
que una vez simbolizo vergüenza y muerte ha sido consagrada por siempre
por la sangre de Jesús para ver el signo del triunfo de Cristo sobre la muerte
y la redención del pecado.
El Domingo de Pascua, la iglesia proclama con alegría la Buena Nueva que
Cristo está vivo a través de las palabras de la Secuencia de Pascua, que se
canta antes de la proclamación del Evangelio. En la actualidad, las secuencias
se cantan para marcar tres ocasiones sagradas durante el año litúrgico:
Pascua, Pentecostés y Corpus Christi. En este Domingo de Pascua, estas
hermosas palabras pueden resonar en nuestros corazones mientras que nos
regocijamos en la gloria de Cristo resucitado.

Restore, Renew, Rejoice!
Starting today, Easter 2014, we begin
the fourth and final year of our Legacy
Campaign. In the coming weeks, we
will provide an insert to the bulletin
that will summarize all that we
have accomplished as a community
during the first three years of our
Legacy Campaign. It will also update
you on all of the latest financial and
construction information, provide you
with a recap what we have done
and give you a time line of
where we are going. I think
you will be amazed at what
we have accomplished, so
stay tuned for that very
important information.
We also want to take this
opportunity to thank all
those who have supported
our Legacy Campaign in these first
three years.We have come a long way,
but we still have a long way to go and
we need the support of everyone in
this community. We are still hoping for
100% participation, and do not intend
to rest until we reach that mark. I hope
that all will use this Easter season to
prayerfully consider what you can do
to help our parish and our school. This
is our legacy; let’s make it a good one.

This seminar will provide you with an all-inclusive and
comprehensive appreciation and knowledge of the Vocation
and Sacrament of Matrimony. Our goal is to present both the
theology and the practical “tools” of Christian Marriage so that
you will come to a deeper understanding of how marriage is a
participation in the life together here on earth.
Each seminar consists of four sessions.The first three sessions will
take place on Tuesday evenings from 7pm-9pm and the last
session will take place on Saturday at 3pm with an opportunity to
attend the sacrament of Reconciliation and 5pm Mass. Couples
are expected to attend all four sessions in order to fulfill the PreCana requirement.

The cost for the seminar is $100 for couples getting married at
SJB, and $150 for couples getting married at another parish. This
fee can be paid by cash or check on the day of the first session. To

My name is Mayra and I am preparing for the Sacrament
of Confirmation. My husband and I were married at Saint
John Berchmans in September 2000. We have a five year
old son, who will be attending Saint John Berchmans
School this fall. I am very happy to be part of the RCIA
program,. My favorite topics have been the Sacraments
of Baptism and the Eucharist.
