CROCKER CHRONICLES June 1, 2012 Dear Crocker Farm Families, I hope that everyone is well. At this time of year I often become self-critical for not having taken the time to thank some of the people who look after my kids every day. I am sure that I have told both of my children’s teachers that they are well loved in our house, but I think that was way back in the fall, and I know I must tell them again. My kids do love their respective teachers. Next I need to find time to reach out to our beloved bus driver (my daughter says he is the best, but I have told her there is no such thing). Then there are the specials teachers, the lunch-helpers, our after-school teachers, and the kind custodian who found my son’s favorite sweatshirt (again). I do think taking a moment to reach out those adults is necessary and important and I will do my best in the next few weeks to make sure that I let people know how thankful our family is. The onset of summer weather often presents lots of questions about Crocker Farm’s standards of dress and appearance for our students. Our school handbook (see page ten of web link provided below) offers a detailed explanation of our standards. I do encourage families to review this page when you have the opportunity. Having said that, here are the most salient points: -Students should wear shoes or sandals held securely on their feet (no flip flops) -Students should not wear see-through clothing or halter or tank tops with thin straps -Students should wear clothing that that lets them move and play safely We appreciate your cooperation and understanding with this matter. http://cf.arps.org/files/StudentHandbook.pdf Sincerely, Derek Shea Assistant Principal CROCKER CHRONICLES 18 de juno de 2012 Queridas Familias de Crocker Farm, Espero que todos estén bien. Apreciamos su cooperación y entendimiento con este asunto. http://cf.arps.org/files/StudentHandbook.pdf Cordialmente, Derek Shea Asistente de principal Crocker Farm Library Summer 2012 Read-a-thon Dear Families, Would you like to participate in a program that encourages your child to keep reading over the summer while raising money for our Crocker Farm library? The Crocker Farm Summer Read-a-thon is the answer! Here’s how it works: Fill out the permission slip that your child brought home earlier this week or use the permission slip at the bottom of this page. Return it to your child’s classroom teacher. Your child will be given a Read-a-thon folder with the necessary materials inside. Help your child find sponsors that will pledge an amount of money for each book read over the summer. If you are unable to find a sponsor, Ms. McQuaid will help find a sponsor when your child returns the materials in the fall. Encourage your child to read over the summer and help him/her keep track of books read by entering the titles in the reading log in the folder. Any books read to your child can also count. At the end of the summer, help your child collect the pledges from the sponsors. In the beginning of the school year, you will receive information as to how to return the money and reading logs to the library. That’s it! Last year we broke all previous records, with 91 participants raising about $3,700 for the library! This amount quadrupled our book budget for the year. Students and staff truly appreciated the lovely nonfiction and fiction books that arrived in our library all year long. All children who participate will receive a thank you prize, including a gift certificate for the annual Scholastic Book Fair. The grade with the most participants will be honored on the Read-a-thon trophy that is displayed in the library. Thanks you so much for your support. Have a happy summer full of good books to read and time to read them! If you have any questions, please call Susan McQuaid, librarian, at 362-1639. My child has permission to participate in the Crocker Farm School Summer Read-a-thon.
