REQUISITOS
• Programa dirigido a estudiantes de enseñanza media entre 15 y 17.10 años. No se
aceptan estudiantes graduados.
• Tener promedio de notas mínimo de 5,50 en todos los años de escolaridad.
• Los postulantes deben estar seriamente interesados en mejorar sus habilidades en el
idioma inglés, como también, tener interés en conocer la cultura canadiense.
• Salud compatible con la experiencia. No se aceptarán estudiantes que hayan
presentado
alguna
condición
o
tratamiento
mental,
neurológico,
emocional,
sicológico, siquiátrico y/o desorden alimenticio, a menos que hayan sido dado de alta
con dos años de anterioridad a la postulación al programa de AFS. Si esa fuera la
situación, la postulación, igualmente estará sujeta a evaluación.
DESCRIPCIÓN
• El programa está dirigido a estudiantes con nivel básico y/o intermedio del idioma
inglés y se lleva a cabo en la ciudad de Red Deer, provincia de Alberta, al oeste de
Canadá.
• Las clases se imparten durante las mañanas (60 horas de clase en total). En las
tardes se organizan actividades culturales y en terreno, enfocadas a practicar y
reforzar el uso del inglés. Estas actividades pueden incluir (sin estar limitadas
a
ellas) : deportes, clases de cocina, visitas culturales y un paseo a las Montañas
Rocallosas (Rocky Mountains).
• Los participantes vivirán en casas de familias anfitrionas con las que compartirán
cada tarde/noche y fines de semana.
• Es probable que una familia reciba a más de un participante. De ser el caso,
serán participantes de países diferentes.
• No se autorizan los viajes independientes durante el programa ni que los
participantes se queden en Canadá al finalizar el programa.
• Los participantes serán recibidos en el aeropuerto de la ciudad de Calgary por
voluntarios de AFS y/o por las familias anfitrionas para llevarlos directamente a sus
casas.
PROCESO DE SELECCIÓN
• La selección consta de una entrevista en el hogar del postulante, con éste y sus
padres y es realizada por voluntarios del comité de cada ciudad.
OBSERVACIONES
• No se aceptan vegetarianos.
• No se aceptan alérgicos.
• No se aceptan fumadores.

• Pasaje ida y regreso Santiago/Calgary, Alberta/Santiago.
• Curso Intensivo de inglés
• Estadía con una familia anfitriona.
• Excursiones organizadas por AFS.
• Seguro médico de AFS.
• Apoyo de AFS mientras dura el programa.
RED DEER, CIUDAD DONDE SE LLEVA A CABO EL PROGRAMA
• Red Deer se encuentra en el centro-sur de Alberta y en el punto medio entre Calgary
y Edmonton. Es una ciudad que presenta una gran cantidad de instalaciones y
atracciones.
• Tiene cerca de 90.000 habitantes y es la tercera
ciudad más poblada de Alberta, después de Calgary y
Edmonton.
• La ciudad tiene un clima continental húmedo, con
temperaturas cálidas en verano y frías en invierno.
• Está situada en una región entre praderas y bosques
boreales, los que son dedicados a la producción de
granos y ganado, entre otros.

having fun? Here is your chance! AFS Interculture Canada invites you
to join our Intensive English Program, which combines academic and
cultural activities, for the month of January.
Designed for international students with English skills from beginner
to intermediate, this program will allow you to attend English classes
every week day morning (60 hours total) and practice speaking with
your new friends and host family.
In the afternoon, you will attend group activities. Usually, the groups
has between 15-25 participants from all over the world! Together, you will
do activities such as sports, cooking lessons, cultural visits and even an
excursion to the famous Rocky Mountains!

Alberta, with its vast plains, rolling range-land and rocky, snow covered mountains, is a study in contrasts. Since the Second World War, Alberta has been the centre of the Canadian oil and natural gas
industry. It is also the home of the Calgary stampede and Canada's cowboy culture. In the energy
industry, as with cowboys, risk is an important factor which defines Albertans. The western frontier
spirit is alive and well in Alberta. Much of Alberta is made up of plains and prairies, and it is considered, along with Saskatchewan and Manitoba, to be one of Canada's Prairie Provinces. However,

Living in Red Deer
Red Deer is located in the center of Alberta and at the midpoint between Calgary and Edmonton.
It is the third most populated city in Alberta, after Calgary and Edmonton, with 91,877 inhabitants.
Red Deer has a humid continental climate, with hot temperatures in the summer and cold ones in
the winter. Even though located in aspen parkland (a region between the prairies and the boreal
forests of rolling hills that is subject to oil, grain, and cattle production) the city is pretty urban and
presents a lot of facilities and attractions.
