“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must
deny himself and take up his cross daily and
follow me.”
Luke 9:23
We are not very good at “denying ourselves” in
our society. Our current economic situation is
evidence of what happens when people think
they can have everything they want. Jesus calls
us to set our own personal “wants” aside so that we have
the resources to follow Him instead.

But who do you say I am? This is perhaps a hard
question. But it is the one that matters. With Peter (and
the disciples), each of us wants to say: “You are the
Messiah, the Christ of God!” We do say it because we
are here, because we are Christian. We thirst for him.
But does not this Jubilee Year of Mercy shed renewed
light on this answer and this name? Who is this Christ
in this year? How has this Christ shown and done
mercy work? And how do I make his biblical acting a
pattern for my own life?
 Because Jesus is the Christ, how will I deny
myself this day?
 Because Jesus is the Christ, what cross will I pick
up?
 Because Jesus is the Christ, how will I help others
follow him?

amor. Es el amor lo que verdaderamente
nutre nuestras vidas. Jesús nos nutre
con su amor en el pan de la unidad.
Hay
relaciones
personales
que
verdaderamente resultan nutrientes y
otras que siempre nos dejan con
hambre. Jesús, al mismo tiempo que
sacia nuestra hambre, crea en nosotros
siempre un mayor deseo de unirnos a
él, de transformarnos en él.
Esa es la maravilla de la eucaristía. No
somos nosotros los que asimilamos a
Jesús a nuestras vidas. Es Jesús el que
nos asimila e incorpora a su propia
vida, la vida misma de Dios. Ahora en
esta Eucaristía acojamos al Señor en
nuestras vidas y dejémonos incorporar
a Él para poder también nosotros
alimentar a nuestros hermanos.
Cristo murió crucificado
No podemos olvidar que Cristo murió
crucificado.
agradable, no sólo mientras me pida
