El Grand Palais acoge Art Paris
Art Fair, el gran evento artístico
de la primavera. China será el
invitado de honor de una muestra
en la que participan 140 galerías.

El mundo del arte, en su aspecto más comercial, ha ido cambiado lentamente su foco de interés. En el siglo XXI, los compradores (occidentales) miran a Oriente. Hoy, por ejemplo, el
creador más influyente del planeta es el chino Ai Weiwei. En
esa misma línea está Liu Bolin, una de las estrellas presentes
en Art Paris Art Fair, el gran evento artístico de la primavera parisina. Le llaman “el hombre invisible”, porque en
sus obras adopta los colores del paisaje y se mimetiza con él.
Bolin, escultor convertido en fotógrafo y performer, protesta
así, desapareciendo, contra una sociedad que niega al individuo. Y si Bolin encarna en París la nueva hornada de artistas chinos, el pintor Zao Wou-Ki representa a los antiguos,
todo un clásico del siglo XX, amigo de Joan Miró y heredero
estético de Paul Klee. China, sin embargo, no monopoliza la
feria. Habrá otras presencias orientales de peso como la japonesa Yayoi Kusama, veterana reina del pop art (que ostenta el
récord femenino de la obra más cara vendida por una artista
viva: 3,8 millones de euros), o su compatriota Nobuyoshi

Araki, conocido por sus delirantes perversiones (artísticas y
sexuales). Entre los españoles destacan los trabajos de Juan
Manuel Castro Prieto, Aleix Plademunt, Daniel Canogar o la
jovencísima Marcel·la Barceló, hija del gran Miquel. La cita
se completa con nombres mayúsculos de la fotografía (Vivian
Maier, Martin Schoeller, Cindy Sherman) y del arte urbano,
como Shepard Fairey, que goza de fama planetaria desde
que su cartel Hope (2008), en rojo, blanco y azul, sirviera de
apoyo a la campaña presidencial de Obama.
El Grand Palais presenta, pues, una cita estimulante que sirve de aperitivo a los fastos del FIAC, la feria internacional de
arte contemporáneo de París, que llegará en octubre. Todo el
que es alguien en el mundo del arte, estará allí.

The Grand Palais is hosting the Art Paris Art Fair, the big
art event of the spring season. China will be the guest of
honour at a show with 140 participating galleries.
The art world – in its most commercial facet - has gradually
shifted its focus. In the 21st century, (Western) buyers are
looking to the East. Today, for example, the most influential
artist on the planet is China’s Ai Weiwei. In the same vein, Liu
Bolin is one of the stars of Art Paris Art Fair, the big event on
the spring art calendar in the French capital. He’s known as
“the invisible man” because he paints his body with the colours of the landscape in order to mimic his surroundings, virtually disappearing. Bolin, who was a sculptor before he got
into photography and performance art, thus protests against a
society that denies the individual. And if Bolin embodies the
new batch of Chinese artists in Paris, the painter Zao Wou-Ki
represents the old ones: a real classic of the 20th century,
a friend of Joan Miró and the artistic heir to Paul Klee. But
China does not have a monopoly on the fair. Other important
Eastern artists will also be present, including Japan’s Yayoi
Kusama, the veteran Pop Art queen (who holds the record for
the most expensive work sold by a living female artist: €3.8
million), and her fellow countrywoman Nobuyoshi Araki,
famous for her outrageous perversions (artistic and sexual).
As far as Spanish art goes, highlights include the work of Juan
Manuel Castro Prieto, Aleix Plademunt, Daniel Canogar and
the extremely young Marcella Barceló, daughter of the great
Miquel. There will also be room for big names in photography
(Vivian Maier, Martin Schoeller, Cindy Sherman) and urban
art such as Shepard Fairey, who rose to international fame
after his red, white and blue Hope (2008) poster was used to
promote Obama’s presidential campaign.
Grand Palais thus brings us a stimulating event that will serve as an appetizer for the main course in October: FIAC, the
International Contemporary Art Fair. Anybody who is anybody in the art world will be there.
