Departure for a trip to the Land of Estella, a town exuding history due to the Way of St James, with a number of
monasteries and Romanesque hermitages, this is a land rich
in art, artisan traditions and cuisine.

The first stop is at the Sierra del Perdón, where you can view the
Pilgrim’s Monument, which represents a procession of pilgrims from
different periods in time, crossing the line of wind turbines. This is a
symbol of the Way of St James, as it passes through Navarre.

Then, close to the village of Muruzabal, you can admire the
mysterious hermitage of Santa María de Eunate, a Romanesque 12th century temple and one of the most suggestive
churches on the Way of St James.

A few kilometres away, lies Puente la Reina, “the crossroads”,
a medieval village in which the two principle routes on the Way
of St James merge. Walking along the narrow Rúa Mayor street,
you can discover architectural gems such as the church of the
Crucifijo (cruifix) and Santiago (St James), whilst the real highlight is the Romanesque bridge over the river Arga, one of the
finest Romanesque iconic examples along the Way of St James.

Before lunch, we’ll go to the valley of Yerri, to the village of
Abárzuza, where Tere will show you how the famous Patxaran
(sloe berry and anise liqueur) of Navarre is made. At the end of
the tour, you’ll get the opportunity to taste this typical Navarre
liqueur.

Lunch at a famous restaurant in Estella, based on typical regional produce, such as suckling pig roasted in a wood-fired
oven and stuffed asparagus.

After lunch, there’ll be time to take a short walk through this
beautiful, historical town which came into being as a result
of the Way of St James.
During the walk, you’ll get the opportunity to visit the church
of Santa María Jus del Castillo. This 12th century Romanesque church is a symbol of the cultural past of Estella and
an architectural gem, and has been declared an historical artistic monument.
It currently houses the Romanesque Interpretation Centre
of the Way of St James.
