Estimadas Familias de Henking,
Espero que esta carta los encuentre disfrutando de estos hermosos días de verano. A medida que
comenzamos este año escolar quisiera recordarles lo importante que es su papel de padre aquí en la
escuela Henking. Su ayuda como padre es esencial para que sus niños alcancen el mayor desarrollo
social, emocional y académico posible. Nosotros necesitamos mucho de su apoyo durante este año
escolar. Por favor quiero que recuerde que sus sugerencias, preguntas, y preocupaciones me
interesan mucho y que siempre encontrará mi puerta abierta y a la orden para cuando quiera
visitarme.
Nuestros maestros han trabajado mucho desde el final el año escolar pasado y durante el verano
para estar listos para nuestros niños. Estamos muy emocionados de continuar implementando los
nuevos estándares de Ciencias y el Currículo Social y Emocional de parte del Estado de Illinois.
Les continuaremos exigiendo a los niños que siempre traigan una merienda saludable que conste de
frutas o verduras frescas. Esto les ayudará a mantener una energía alta durante todo el día escolar.
Nuestros niños continúan sorprendiéndonos con lo inteligentes que son y vamos a disfrutar mucho el
verlos alcanzar sus potenciales mas altos. Estamos aquí para apoyarlos a ellos y a sus familias. Es
por so que si se le ofrece algo, por favor no dude en llamarme inmediatamente.
Una de mis metas desde que comenzó mi trabajo aquí en Henking hace tres años como directora, ha
sido el establecer una relación fuerte y saludable entre la casa y la escuela. He tenido muchos éxitos,
y quisiera continuar con estos éxitos durante este año. Le pido que se animen a participar en la
Asociación de Padres y Maestros (PTA). Este grupo de padres es un grupo muy dedicado quienes se
han comprometido a ofrecer actividades académicas y no-académicas para nuestros niños y nuestras
familias y ellos siempre reciben nuevos miembros.
Dos cambios muy importantes que quiero por favor tenga en cuenta para este año escolar son:
1. La puerta de salida D que anteriormente se usaba de salida para los niños que caminan a la
escuela, no existirá mas. De ahora en adelante los niños saldrán para sus casa por la puerta F.
Recuerde que este cambio solo afecta la salida de los niños por la tarde. Por la mañana todas las
puertas son iguales a los años anteriores.
2. Mi numero de teléfono directo ahora es 847 998-2695.
Espero que tengamos un año escolar maravilloso, y como dije anteriormente, por favor venga a
visitarnos.

Learn pins, forks, double attacks and checkmating moves! Learn bughouse (team chess) and play for trophies in
the class championship! Learn thinking skills that help in school and in sports! Everyone can win a trophy if they
participate in class. Our national champion coaches Gauri and Arjun Manoj are Glenview residents and attended
Glenbrook South High School. Gauri was the captain of the GBS chess team, and has won the individual state
championship multiple times for the school. They also coach the Westbrook Elementary School chess team that
recently won 2nd place in the 2016 Illinois State chess championship!
PARENTS: Why chess? Chess teaches how to solve problems by using logic and forward thinking. Chess will
help map your child’s brain for math and science by teaching how to break problems down into steps, solve puzzles and
win games. Problem solving skills are the basis of all learning, and knowing how to tackle a problem is key to success in
school and the workplace. The main focus of each class is to learn how to solve multiple move puzzles and then use that
knowledge to win games. Our approach mirrors the scientific method in a way young children can understand. There is
no chance in chess. Each game is really a series of interactive puzzles created by the players, one move at a time. With
practice, your child will learn the rules and tactics. This body of knowledge and experience about forcing moves will
grow and soon result in multi-move strategies that win games. The player who can calculate the logical progression of
moves furthest forward always wins! Our classes emphasize learning thru game play and solving puzzles. Kids will be
rewarded (with various sized trophies) based on the amount of points earned thru work at home playing games and
solving puzzles and on tournament play in class. We reward hard work! With your help, your child can reap the vast
rewards chess has to offer!
