This MOTHER’S DAY weekend, May 7/8,
we will be honoring our church’s wonderful
mothers with rose bouquets after all Masses/
Worship Services. The rose is recognized
as the symbol of Life. What more fitting way to
acknowledge the tremendous Life-Giving effort of
our beautiful mothers than to shower them with
roses! Funds raised will be donated to our local
Pregnancy Resource Center, to help expectant
mothers in need. For a donation of $5.00, you can
demonstrate your appreciation for your mother,
godmother, grandmother, wife or other loved one
and help make this a truly HAPPY MOTHER’S
DAY for moms and children in our community who
need our help!

Reflection: May is marked by the beautiful ceremony of
the May crowning. We present to Mary, the mother of Life,
the sign of life contained in the flowers that grow at this
time of year. By doing this, we honor Mary for saying “yes”
to the Life of God in her womb.

la corona de flores de mayo a Maria. Nosotros

Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord
CONTINUALLY PRAISING GOD
In both the first reading and the Gospel
we are told about Christ’s glorious ascension into heaven. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians reminds us that Christ has been seated
at God’s right hand in heaven, above every
choir of angels. There might be a temptation
to stay at an awed distance from Jesus
Christ. However, the tone of today’s readings is far from that temptation. The tone is exultant
and the message is urgent. We are to be his witnesses,
and the Gospel describes the first witnesses this way:
“[W]ith great joy . . . they were continually in the temple praising God” (Luke 24:53).
How can we continually praise God? The answer
can be found in the second reading, in which Paul
prays that God will give us a “Spirit of wisdom and
revelation” in order to know Christ clearly (Ephesians
1:17). We cannot stand at a distance. We are to be

CONTINUAMENTE ALABANDO A DIOS
Tanto la primera lectura como el Evangelio
nos cuentan la gloriosa Ascensión de Cristo al
cielo. La carta de San Pablo a los Efesios nos
recuerda que Cristo está sentado a la derecha de
Dios en el cielo, por encima de todos los coros
de ángeles. Puede que tengamos la tentación de
mantenernos a una distancia reverencial de Jesucristo. Sin embargo, el tono de las lecturas de
hoy están lejos de esa tentación. El tono es exuberante y
el mensaje es urgente. Hemos de ser sus testigos, y el
Evangelio describe a los primeros testigos de esta manera: “Muy alegres. . . permanecían constantemente en el
templo alabando a Dios” (Lucas 24:53).
¿Cómo podemos alabar a Dios continuamente? La
respuesta se encuentra en la segunda lectura, en la cual
Pablo pide a Dios que nos conceda un “espíritu de sabiduría y de reflexión” para conocer a Cristo claramente
(Efesios 1:17). No podemos mantenernos a distancia.
Vamos a ser iluminados y fortalecidos.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
Come join the Knights of Columbus on their bus trip on May
11th, going to Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio. The donation to
go is $30 and the Casino provides $30 incentive for passengers.
Bus departs promptly at 9am from the Knights of Columbus hall at 12586 California
Street; and returns at (about) 4:30 pm. Please arrive by 8:30am to sign in.

The Key Ministry Team is in need of new team members
This is a great opportunity for Stewardship by giving of your talents and keeping our
Church facilities safe and secure. Responsibilities include opening and closing various
facilities throughout the Church campus. Facilities are the Church, Parish
Center, Cabrini Hall, and the Modulars. Opening for scheduled events is no earlier than 5:00
pm and returning to close no later than 9:00 pm (Monday thru Friday) along with events
scheduled on Saturday and Sunday. Each key minister is scheduled only 1 week every 6 to
7 weeks. If interested, please call Peggy at 909.797.2533 x222. Training will be given.
