“A prophet is not without honor except in his native place
and among his own kin and in his own house.”
Many people want to be a prophet in our current age,
particularly when the Power Ball and Mega Millions lotteries rise to hundreds of millions of dollars. However,
few of us would have wanted to be prophets for the
Chosen People before the time of Christ, or like John the
Baptist and Jesus. Such prophets observed the silly,
senseless, stupid and sinful things in their time, and they called for CHANGE.
The people of their time did not like CHANGE and they rejected the prophet
who called for CHANGE. We do not like CHANGE or the person who calls
us to CHANGE. When we were baptized we were anointed “priest, prophet
and king.” We have the responsibility to observe the silly, senseless, stupid
and sinful things in our time, and call for CHANGE. It is part of our obligation as disciples and imitators of Jesus. And we can expect to be treated
like Jesus, John the Baptist, and the prophets before them, when we
CHANGE and call others to CHANGE. But Jesus assured us, “A prophet is
not without honor . . .” in his eyes.

The Beginning Experience: for Young People:
The loss of a parent through death, or a changed
parental relationship through divorce is a traumatic
experience for children. Beginning Experience
programs for young people offers a place where
help and support are offered to work through
negative emotions. There will be a workshop held
Thursday-Saturday, July 23-25, 2015 at Rosaryville. The cost is $200. Please contact Rose at

Rosaryville Women’s Retreat:
All women are invited to attend a Silent Ignatian
Women’s Retreat with Patti Clement. The retreat
will be held August 6-9, 2015. The Spiritual Exercises were developed by St. Ignatius Loyola to

Exploring the Pathways to Gospel Joy
July 10-12, 2015 Presented by Rev. Whitney
Miller The journey of Christian Discipleship is not a
leisurely Sunday stroll or a “walk in the park.” It
demands willing sacrifice, redemptive suffering,
counter-cultural fearlessness and an obedient trust.
On this retreat weekend, we will explore these
Gospel themes which assist the modern day disciple to journey toward the truths of God’s kingdom.

Retrouvaille Weekend:
A Rediscovery program for couples experiencing
marital difficulties will be held the weekend of
July 17-19. Retrouvaille program sponsored by
the Catholic Church is for couples living either
separated, divorced or disconnected lives who
want to save their marriage. The program consists
of a weekend followed by six follow-up sessions

The 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“ Mas Jesús les decía: No hay profeta sin honra sino en su propia tierra,
y entre sus parientes, y en su casa.”
Mucha gente quiere ser profeta, especialmente cuando las loterías son cientos de millones de dolares. Sin embargo, pocos de nosotros hubiera querido ser profetas para el
Pueblo Elegido antes del tiempo de Cristo o como San Juan Bautista o Jesucristo. Tales
profetas observaron los tontas, absurdas, estúpidas, y pecaminosas cosas en sus tiempos
y llamaron para el cambio. La gente de sus tiempos no
quería el cambio y rechazaron los profetas quien llamaron
para el cambio. No queremos el cambio o la persona que
llama para el cambio. Cuando somos bautizados, somos
ungidos, “sacerdote, profeta, y rey”. Tenemos la responsabilidad a observar los tontas, absurdas, estúpidas, y pecaminosas cosas en nuestros tiempos y llamar para el cambio. Es parte de nuestra obligación como imitadores y discípulos de Cristo. Y podemos esperar ser
tratada como Jesucristo, San Juan Bautista, y los profetas que vinieron antes, cuando cambiamos y cuando llamamos a otras a
cambiar. Pero Jesucristo nos aseguro: “No hay profeta sin honra…” en sus ojos.

 Tierra Santa– Un viaje a Tierra Santa
no es, para un católico, un viaje de turismo, sino una peregrinación. Es decir es
una ocasión excepcionalmente provechosa para tener una experiencia de
Jesús y de su obra salvadora. Nuestra
peregrinación a Tierra Santa debe ser
hecha con espíritu de oración: no se
trata solo de “ver,” de oír explicaciones, de fotografiar, sino de “escuchar”
los susurros silenciosos de los lugares en
los que cobran nueva vida las palabras
inspiradas por el Espíritu Santo, como
ocurre con las Sagradas Escrituras.
Cada lugar es propicio para hacerse
una pregunta: ¿Qué me dice esta lugar?
Llegaremos a Tel Aviv, iremos al Monte Carmelo Santuario de la Virgen del Carmen.
Seguiremos nuestro peregrinaje hasta llegar a
Nazaret. Estaremos en la Basílica de la Anunciación donde tendremos la Santa Misa.
 Medjugorje—Durante casi 30 anos en
Medjugorje, una ciudad de BosniaHerzegovina, seis videntes afirman que
la Santísima Virgen, la “Gospa,” se les
aparece todos los días.
La Virgen María en Medjugorje parece pedir
a los peregrinos que la visitan, que lleven a
sus comunidades y parroquias de origen, la
importancia de lo que allí han visto y aprendido: la oración y de la Adoración Eucarística,
de la lectura de la Palabra de Dios, de la
confesión y del ayuno.
Santa Maria Goretti virgin y mártir
Vivió en el seno de una familia humilde
y perdió a su padre a los diez años por
causa del paludismo.
Como consecuencia de la muerte de
su padre, la madre de María Goretti
tuvo que trabajar dejando la casa y los
hermanos menores a cargo de ésta
quien realizaba sus obligaciones con
alegría y cada semana asistía a clases
de catecismo.
A los once años hizo su primera comunión haciéndose, desde entonces, el
firme propósito de morir antes que
cometer un pecado.
En la misma finca donde vivía María
trabajaba Alejandro Serenelli, quien se
enamoró de María que en ese entonces contaba con doce años.
Serenelli, a causa de lecturas impuras,
se dedicó a buscar a María haciéndole
propuestas que la santa rechazaba
haciendo que Serenelli se sintiera despreciado.
El 5 de julio de 1902 Serenelli fue en
busca de María quien estaba sola en
su casa y al encontrarla la invitó a ir a
una recámara de la casa a lo que
María se negó por lo que aquél se vio
obligado a forzarla.
María se negaba advirtiéndole a Serenelli que lo que pretendía era pecado y
que no accedería a sus pretensiones
por lo que éste la atacó con un cuchillo
clavándoselo catorce veces.
María no murió inmediatamente, fue
trasladada a la hospital de San Juan de
Dios donde los médicos la operaron sin
antestcia porque no había y durante
dos horas la santa soportó el sufrimiento ofreciéndo a Dios sus dolores.
Antes de morir, un día después del ataque, María alcanzó a recibir la comu-
nión y la unción de los enfermos e hizo
público su perdón a Serenelli.
El asesino fue condenado a 30 años de
prisión donde al principio no daba
muestras de arrepentimiento. La tradición cuenta que después de un
sueño donde María le dijo que él también podía ir al cielo, Serenelli cambió
completamente volviéndose hacia Dios
y ofreciendo sus trabajos y sufrimientos
en reparación de sus pecados.
Después de 27 años de cárcel fue liberado y acudió a pedir perdón a la
madre de la santa, quien no solo lo
perdonó sino que lo defendió en
público alegando que si Dios y su hija
lo habían perdonado, ella no tenía
porque no perdonarlo.
La fama de María Goretti se extendía
cada vez más y fueron apareciendo las
muestras de santidad, que fue fruto de
su cercanía a Dios y su devoción a
laVirgen María.
Después de numerosos estudios, la
Santa Sede la canonizó el 24 de junio
de 1950 en una ceremonia que se tuvo
que realizar en la Plaza de San Pedro
debido a la cantidad de asistentes que
se calculaban en más de quinientas mil
personas.
En la ceremonia de canonización
acompañaron a Pío XII la madre, dos
hermanas y un hermano de María. Durante esta ceremonia

exhaltó la virtud de la
santa y sus estudiosos afirman que por
la vida que llevó aún
cuando no hubiera
sido mártir habría
merecido ser declarada santa.
