Am I too late to sign my children up for HPLD’s Summer Reading Adventure?
If participating in the Summer Reading Adventure never quite makes it off your bucket list, remember that the
library is always here for you. We offer programs and activities for you and your family year-round. Some of
these programs include:
• 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten - This program is for children 0-6 years of age and promotes literacy
through families reading together. There are incentives for children and early literacy tips for parents. You
can sign up to be a part of 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten at any of our libraries.

• Storytimes - If you have young children, you may be interested in our year-round storytimes. These
storytimes help develop early literacy skills and get kids ready for reading. Children who have early literacy
skills prior to attending kindergarten have higher indicators for achieving success in school (Thompson,
2015).
LOCATIONS
It’s never too late to sign up for the Summer Reading Adventure – even in July. The Summer Reading Adventure
runs until August 1, so there’s still plenty of time to participate. Reading logs are accepted right up until the last
day of the program, with prizes available while supplies last. Late is better than never, especially when we are
talking about fun ways to set children up for success in the upcoming school year.

• Clubs and programs – We have many book clubs or programs that offer fun options for leisure and relaxing.
Some of our exciting clubs and programs this fall include things such as Artmakers, Erie LEGO Club,
Crafternoon, Photography Club, Riverside Music Mixer, and Open Sewing.
FEATURES
• Computer classes - These classes teach a variety of technology skills for all ages. You can come to us to learn
coding, Facebook, 3D modeling, computer basics, resume help, and Windows 10. The selection of classes
changes often giving a good variety of topics to learn and explore.
• Intercambio - If you are interested in practicing your English or your Spanish, you can join Riverside Library
in their Intercambio to get a chance to brush up on your language skills with others who also want to practice
in an informal setting.
• Job Zone - If you are in the Frederick/Firestone area, drop by the Job Zone at Carbon Valley Regional Library
to get one-on-one help with your job search, resume, or online job applications.
• Place of Discovery (POD) – Centennial Park Library is home of our POD which allows people to learn, play,
and tinker with new, exciting technology and maker activities.
SPECIAL EVENTS
• Book a Librarian - Schedule an appointment at any of our locations to work closely with a research expert on
any specific need that you may have.
• Teen Advisory Boards - Erie, Carbon Valley, and Riverside libraries give teens a chance to serve their
community and hang out with their peers at the same time. This is a great way for teens to impact and make a
difference in our libraries and communities.
LOCATIONS
• Teen Signature Event – Every year, HPLD brings someone exciting and inspiring to middle schools and high
schools in our district. This fall we will be featuring Supaman. Supaman is a Native American dancer and hip
hop artist who gives educational and motivational talks to young people. A member of the Apsaalooke Nation,
his performances often feature some of his championship Fancy Dancing skills. He will be visiting select
middle schools in our area and performing at a community event hosted by HPLD.
As you can see, there are many, many opportunities for fun and learning in our libraries. Please, don’t hesitate to

A college education is the dream of many people,
but the expenses associated with obtaining a degree
keep increasing. Our panel of experts will explore a
variety of options that are available for funding higher
education. Panelists will discuss federal financial aid,
student loans, 529 plans, scholarships, grants, and
creative local programs like Weld County's Bright
Futures Grant Program. Learn ways the dream of
college can become a reality. Presented by the Rocky

Where to Learn about What to Look For." The zoo
can resolve whether a Sandhill Crane or a Great
Blue Heron left those tracks you found in the mud;

pronghorn tracks. More than casual strolls, zoos and
museums are where you develop the observation skills
that enrich your time afield.
Ian from the University of Northern Colorado will be
presenting on cooking and nutrition. Social time and

Yes, it's new, but it doesn't need to be scary. We'll take
you through the basic features of Windows 10 and

by the Northern Colorado Storytellers followed by a
