Prayer of Pope Francis for the Jubilee
Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and
have told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be
saved.
Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money;
the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things;
made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief.
Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God!”
You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power
above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the
world, its Lord risen and glorified.
You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they
may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.
Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives
and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. We ask this of you, Lord Jesus,
through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy; you who live and reign with the
Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.

24 Hours for the Lord
Year of Mercy ~ Año de la Misericordia
March 4th ~5th 2016
The initiative of “24 Hours for the Lord,” to be celebrated on the Friday and Saturday preceding the
Fourth Week of Lent, should be implemented in every
diocese. So many people, including young people, are
returning to the Sacrament of Reconciliation; through
this experience they are rediscovering a path back to
the Lord, living a moment of intense prayer and finding meaning in their lives. Let us place the Sacrament
of Reconciliation at the centre once more in such a way
that it will enable people to touch the grandeur of
God’s mercy with their own hands. For every penitent,
it will be a source of true interior peace.
~~~~~~~~~ ~~
La iniciativa “24 horas para el Señor”, de celebrarse
durante el viernes y sábado que anteceden el IV domingo de Cuaresma, se incremente en las Diócesis. Muchas personas están volviendo a acercarse al sacramento de la Reconciliación y entre ellas muchos jóvenes, quienes en una experiencia semejante suelen reencontrar el camino para volver al Señor, para vivir
un momento de intensa oración y redescubrir el sentido de la propia vida. De nuevo ponemos convencidos
en el centro el sacramento de la Reconciliación, porque nos permite experimentar en carne propia la
grandeza de la misericordia. Será para cada penitente fuente de verdadera paz interior.
SUNDAY CONTRIBUTIONS
CONTRIBUCIONES DOMINICALES
Fr. Luis is requesting that all parish families use one of the
following two methods for your contributions, not only to
receive your annual donation letter, but to help him with
the great responsibility of planning and budgeting the
administration of this your parish.
Envelope System: Our new envelope system consists of
booklets that are mailed to your home on a quarterly basis. These booklets include envelopes for your Sunday contribution and second collections for St. Vincent de Paul and
the Building Maintenance Fund.
Online Giving: We have launched a new and improved
website with Online Giving. With the new Online Giving
system you can safely donate electronically for different
funds including your weekly Sunday contribution at
www.littleflowerbasilica.org
El Padre Luis pide a todas las familias de la parroquia
que usen uno de los dos siguientes sistemas para realizar
sus donaciones, esto será de gran ayuda, no solo para
enviarles la carta de su contribución anual, si no también
para ayudar al Padre Luis con la gran responsabilidad de
solventar los gatos que genera la administración de esta
su parroquia, que es casa de ustedes.
Sistema de Sobres: Nuestro nuevo sistema de sobres consiste de un cuadernillo que se enviara por correo a su domicilio cada tres meses. Este cuadernillo contiene los sobres
correspondientes a cada domingo, así como los de las segundas colectas para San Vicente de Paul y para el Fondo de Mantenimiento de la iglesia.
Donaciones Electrónicas: Hemos cambiado y actualizado
nuestra página web a través de la cual también puede
hacer sus donaciones electrónicamente. Esta es una forma
segura para hacerlo entrando a la página web:
www.littleflowerbasilica.org.
Pope Francis writes in Misericordiae Vultus—the papal bull that
announced this Jubilee Year of Mercy— that he desires that
Christian people everywhere more deeply reflect on the corporal
and spiritual works of mercy. The pope views this year as an
opportunity to “reawaken our conscience, too often grown dull in
the face of poverty.” He challenges us to “enter more deeply into Saturday, March 12th
8am to 1pm
the heart of the Gospel where the poor have a special experience of God’s mercy.”
“I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.” (Mt 9:13)
Lent is a time to reflect more intentionally on Pope Francis’ invitation. During these 40 days, we examine our own lives in an ongoing effort to “be merciful, just as [the] Father is merciful.” And
CRS Rice Bowl is our tool to do just this. Through CRS Rice Bowl,
we encounter those living in conditions of poverty around the
world, and we have the opportunity to practice the corporal and
spiritual works of mercy through our prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Joan Rosenhauer, Executive Vice President of CRS’ U.S. Make
your Lenten practice this year one of mercy.
 Faith-Sharing: Use this adult faith-sharing resource, Live
Mercy: Feed the Hungry, to inspire reflection on the scope of
global hunger and how we are called to respond in mercy.
 Gospel Reflections: Consider how the Gospel of the Word
each Sunday can inspire you and your community to live
mercy throughout the week.
 Lives of the Saints: Contemplate God’s mercy throughout
our Catholic tradition by reflecting on the Lives of the Saints
who have gone before us.
The three traditional pillars of Lenten observance are
prayer, fasting and almsgiving. The Church asks us to
surrender ourselves to prayer and to the reading of
Scripture, to fasting and to giving alms. The fasting
that all do together on Fridays is but a sign of the daily Lenten discipline of individuals and households: fasting for certain periods of time, fasting from certain
foods, but also fasting from other things and activities.
Likewise, the giving of alms is some effort to share this
world equally– not only through the distribution of
money, but through the sharing of our time and talents.
