Principal’s Message - Dr. Jeanette Gerault
Greetings Fiest Families,
As the school year begins to wind down, our minds and hearts are filled
to the brim. It’s been a great year! What a school! Fiest Bears are
amazing! Together we’ve learned much and shared experiences that will
long remain with us in the years to come.
Special thanks to all of you who have contributed in ways small, large
and unimaginable! Counting copies for Thursday Folders, working in
the library or helping with school pictures and health screenings,
providing food and/or organizing lunches for teachers, organizing
events, working at these events, showing up to support your children,
helping in the garden, sharing your talents, being a Watch DOG, and so
much more to support our work in countless ways and providing the
resources to do what we dream and know is good for children. Thanks
for getting your kids to school on time each day, for kind notes of
encouragement that mean so much, for sending your kids with healthy
lunches obviously packed with love, for making sure homework gets
done and turned in. Thank you for providing rich and engaging, wellrounded experiences for your children and knowing that education is
about joy, wonder and fostering curiosity, along with the development
of social skills so needed to succeed. For these, and a million other
things, we are truly grateful.
This summer break should provide you the opportunity for rest and
relaxation. One of the best ways to relax and calm the mind is to
read. Please remember that reading with your child every night will
help them a great deal with being prepared for next school year. You
might also find ways to work on some basic math fact practice.
To those of you who are leaving us for new places and adventures, we
wish you all the best. Congratulations to our very capable 5th graders
who are onto a new stage in their academic career! You’ve been a gift to
us at Fiest and will undoubtedly be missed.
School may be over on June 4th until August 24th, but each of us, young
and old, continue to learn on a daily basis. I wish you all a very happy
and safe summer holiday. I wish you and your children time together to
be creative and have fun. I hope that everyone can take some time this
summer to relax, rejuvenate, and reflect on our many achievements.
Remember, all report cards will be mailed home for the end of the year.
Homeroom letters will be mailed in early August. Be watching the
mailbox!

Important Note from our SCHOOL NURSE
Parents: All medications must be picked up from the clinic by
the end of the last day of school on Thursday, June 4th. All
medications left will be discarded. If your child will be attending
summer school, it is the parent’s responsibility to transport
medications to that campus.
Please review the immunizations required for your child for next
year and ensure they are current. Submit a copy to the Nurse
Office to ensure your child is cleared to start school in the fall.
Be safe, enjoy your summer and see you next year.

LIBRARY NEWSLETTER
Statistics prove that kids lose three to
six month’s achievement during the
summer if they don’t continue
learning. Research shows that
children who don't maintain reading
skills over the summer are likely to
start the upcoming school year at a
disadvantage.
Here are our top tips to prevent the
summer slump:
Tip #1: Bring learning tools with you
on the road.
Tip #2: Integrate literacy-building
adventures into your daily routine.
Tip #3: Find educational activities you
and your child can do together indoors
and outdoors.
Tip #4: Look for books and programs
that feature your child's favorite
characters.
Tip #5: Explore your local library and
join a summer reading program NOW!

1. Upon request of the parent or recommendation of the student’s teacher, send the “Credit-byExam Notice to Parents” and an application (pages 3&4, 5&6) home. While we cannot refuse to
test a child, we want to make sure parents understand that these exams are academically
challenging - not just basic skills - and cover the TEKS for the entire grade-level. (for 2014-2015
year, 349 students tested – 29 passed, 8% passing rate)
2. Summer Testing
 Submit completed CBE application immediately upon receipt. No applications will be
accepted after the due date of June 5, 2015. Applications may be sent via fax
(281.517.2910), inner-office mail or email.
 Provide parent with confirmation letter upon receipt of application.
 Testing will be conducted in a district-wide setting at A. Robison Elementary.
 For fifth grade students who want to skip subjects in grade 6, follow the application
procedures and timeline for middle school.
 Students who want to skip grades K-5 will be tested on Tuesday, June 16, 2015.
3. Fall and Spring Testing
 Submit CBE applications immediately upon receipt. No applications will be accepted
after due date. Applications may be sent via fax (281.517.2910) or email.
 Parents will be notified by school personnel of the results.
 Students may be tested at their campus during the week of December 7-11, 2015 or
during the week of February 15-19, 2016 to accelerate for the upcoming school year, as

Students must score an 80% or better on each subtest of the exam to advance one grade level (K-5).
I give permission for my child to take the credit-by-exam tests and understand that test scores will be the sole
measure used to determine if my child qualifies for advanced placement.
