will be sharing Cinco de
Mayo with their partner
schools in Southwest
Detroit. Maybury
Elementary, Neinas
Elementary and Bennett
Elementary will all welcome the Northville students to take part in a
day of celebration of the
Mexican culture. The
Southwest Detroit
Business Association is
helping to coordinate
activities, along with the
organizers of the
Northville group.
Activities include folkloric
dance and music, an
opportunity to eat
authentic Mexican food,
and an afternoon of storytelling and craft making.
Over 300 Students and
100 adults are expected to
join the festivities!
Chris Engel's
Greenhouse was founded
in 1883 right here in
Southwest Detroit. Still
in its original location at
1238 Woodmere it’s been
your neighborhood florist
for over 120 years. At
one time, the florist grew
its own flowers along
Woodmere, and in its
greenhouses providing
the freshest of flowers to
its customers. Although
Chris Engel’s no longer
grows its own flowers, its
commitment to freshness
and a superior product
has never changed. Many
customers at Eastern
Market on Saturday
mornings marvel over the
fair pricing and quality
arrangements that are
made before their eyes in
Chris Engel’s second location in Shed 2. The customers have been introduced to the Southwest
Detroit Community

as many people were back

"CAFE VIOLETA", an
event with music, dance
and traditional culinary
dishes from different
countries. "CAFE VIOLETA" opened to the public on February 14 with a
Valentine’s Day performance. More than 100 people enjoyed the event
with the music of David
Simón and Mel Roses, the
breakdance of the Motor
City Rockers, and a
charming presentation of
pantomime with "The Shy
Girls and Friends". The
guests also enjoyed the
delicious plates of Mexico,
Chile, Puerto Rico and
other countries such as
the Chilean empanadas,
and the Mexican tamales.
On March 14 "CAFE
VIOLETA" presented a
"Flamenco Night" with
SDBA Community News
the participation of the
group "AL-FLAMENCO"
of Ann Arbor. The event
was hosted by Valeria
Montes; "La Chispa" and
included dishes from
Spain like Chicken and
Vegetarian Paella.
Our next event of
Care Violeta will take
place on Saturday, May
16 at 7:30 pm. It will feature the talents of Penny
Godboldo and Afrocuban
Dance.

W.Vernor & Scotten on February 16, and with the technical assistance
from Southwest Detroit Business Association (SDBA), Jordi Carbonell
and his wife were able to apply and get a loan to expand their business
through the Small Business Detroit Microloan Program.
Jordi Carbonell is happy to announce the continuation of their biweekly Café & Music events, which started again during the spring of
this year, along with the live transmission of Radio Unidos. They will
also continue exhibiting the work of local artists, and providing space
for community meetings. In addition, to the satisfaction of everybody,
they will continue serving their unique Café con Leche, their flavorful
Cafe Cubano, their delicious Mexican Hot Cocoa and the always fresh

while a person still has
some natural teeth the
chemicals tend to accelerate
the decay process on those
natural teeth.

an individual a clean
slate. In essence, the
most preferable type of
consumer bankruptcy is
Chapter 7 which is a
"fresh start". In many
instances, a Chapter 7
bankruptcy will eliminate

their vehicle and most
