Dear Parishioners,
I’m sure you have noticed, as some people have been asking, that we aren’t using the organs during the Mass.
We would like to inform you that for unknown reasons, the blower motor broke. Michael, our organist, has
already contacted repairmen, who have given us an estimate of the cost of repair listed in the letter below.
If anyone would like to give a donation towards these repairs, it will be greatly appreciated. We would like to
inform you that part of the Dollar-a-Day campaign money will be put towards these repairs. The organs should
be fixed by the end of the school year. Below is a copy of the letter from the repair company, for anyone who is
interested. Thank you for your understanding and God Bless!

St. Colette Welcomes our New
Accompanist—Paula Gliot!
I grew up in Arlington Heights,
where my formal music training
began at the age of 5. I attended
Our Lady of the Wayside school
where I was one of several student musicians chosen to play for daily mass (a
requirement in those days!). I played my first Mass
at the age of 11, back in 1968.
I attended Arlington High School. There, I played
flute in the marching and concert bands, and sang
in the concert chorus. During those years I continued to serve as the organist to the “adult” choir at
Our Lady of the Wayside Church.
My college years were spent at Webster University
in St. Louis, MO. There I received my Bachelor Degree in Music Education in 1977– emphasis in flute
performance and orchestral conducting. While in
St.Louis, I was the accompanist for a Lutheran congregation in Brentwood, MO before returning to
Chicago. Once back in town, I picked up where I
left off at Our Lady of the Wayside parish, continuing to accompany and cantor at Sunday liturgies.
In 1984, I was presented with the opportunity to
accompany at St. Emily parish in Mt. Prospect. After the choir director retired, I became the next
music director where I stayed until 1990.
After leaving St. Emily, I took a sabbatical from my
music career to pursue other interests, during
which time I continued working as a substitute organist/pianist. In 2006 I was called to help out at
the First United Methodist Church in Des
Plaines. I stayed on as
the accompanist for
that congregation for
the next six years, until
this opportunity at St.
Colette became
available.
A Request…
Our food pantry’s supplies are
running very low.
We are reaching out to our
Parishioners to ask for
donations of any perishable
food items you and your family
do not need. These donations would be a
great help to us so that we can continue to
serve the needy of our community.
We thank you for your generosity!
God bless you all!
~And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics
is to share with him who has none,
and whoever has food is to do
likewise.”~

***********
Queridos hermanos:
Si alguna de mis ramas no produce fruto, el la corta;
vida.

Tom Burke Physical Education
My name is Tom Burke I was born in Iowa and attended St. Mary’s Catholic
School for 12 years. While I was there I was a 5 star athlete. Our basketball team
played in the state tournament 3 of the 4 years in high school. (We finished 2nd,
3rd and 4th during those years). I went to Northeast Missouri University on a basketball scholarship. I loved playing basketball there. I graduated with a bachelor
of science in education with 3 endorsements, PE, Drivers Ed and Health. I taught
in South Carolina for one year. Then I taught Physical Education at Cardinal
Drive School in Rolling Meadows for 3 years. My next position was at Lincoln
School in Palatine where I worked for 30 years. I retired in 2005. I did not enjoy
retirement. Mrs. Zemko gave me an opportunity to teach and coach at St.
Colette’s School. I live in Schaumburg with my wife and dog Ozzy. I have 3
sons, 2 are teachers and one is a policeman. I would like to thank the parents for
allowing me to teach and coach your children at St. Colette’s.
Talent Show
St. Colette Tigers again this year put on an amazing talent show. Thank you to the jr. high students who were
the hosts, did the back stage work and set up. Thank you also goes to Mrs. Fecko, Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Nehf and
Mr. Trevino for organizing the show. The St. Colette Tigers put on two performances. They put on a show
for the student body on Thursday and for our parents, grandparents and friends on Sunday. It was a great display of Tiger Talent.
