From the Pastor’s Desk

Only a few weeks ago we bid adieu to our summer seminarian, Ed
Shikina. I have been in contact with Ed since his return to the
seminary, and he seems happy to be back in school. If you recall,
Ed attends Pope Saint John XXIII National Seminary in Weston,
Massachusetts, which is near Boston. He is scheduled to be
ordained a priest for the Diocese of Columbus in May 2018.
Hace sólo unas semanas le dijimos adiós a nuestro seminarista del
verano, Ed Shikina. He estado en contacto con Ed desde su regreso al
seminario, y parece feliz de estar de vuelta en la escuela. Si usted
recuerda, Ed está en el Seminario Nacional San Juan XXIII en Weston,
Massachusetts, cerca de Boston. Ed será ordenado sacerdote para la
Diócesis de Columbus en mayo de 2018.
This weekend our parish welcomes yet another seminarian:
Deacon Joshua Carlos. Deacon Josh has begun his final year of
seminary at the Pontifical College Josephinum and was assigned
to our church by Bishop Campbell just last week. He is a
transitional deacon and will be ordained a priest next summer for
the Diocese of Brownsville, Texas. Our community will mostly see
Deacon Josh on the weekends, as he will be living and taking
classes at the Josephinum during the week. I am excited to have
Deacon Josh’s help throughout this school year. Please make him
feel at home at Christ the King.
Este fin de semana nuestra parroquia recibe a un nuevo seminarista: el
Diácono Joshua Carlos. El diácono Josh está en su último año de
seminario en el Pontificio Colegio Josephinum y fue asignado a nuestra
parroquia por el obispo Campbell apenas la semana pasada. Él es un
diácono transitorio y será ordenado sacerdote el próximo verano para la

We are also kicking off our 2015-2016 catechesis program this
weekend. The young people of our parish will be learning more
about their faith every Sunday from 11:10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. I ask
that you be extremely careful in your car in between Masses.
Watch out for our little parishioners as you drive slowly in and out
of our parking lot. Thank you for your consideration and patience!

Christ the King will host its annual Latin American
Independence Day Celebration this Sunday, September 13,
after the 12:30 p.m. Mass. Everyone is invited to enjoy food and
dance in the school gym Sunday afternoon as we honor the

“Matthew: The King and His Kingdom,” our year-long study
of the Gospel of Matthew, begins this Thursday, September
17. Join us at 10:30 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. and discover why this Bible
study is different than others. Even if you have not ordered a
“Matthew” workbook through the parish office, you are still

All Saints Academy Catholic School

Many of our students are purchasing a commemorative Pope
Francis tee-shirt to celebrate his pastoral visit to the United States.
They will be wearing them on Wednesday, September 23, the first
full day of the pope’s visit. Parishioners of Christ the King are
invited to purcharse a Pope Francis tee-shirt, too, but you have to
contact the school office by Monday, September 15. Child sizes
are $9. Adult sizes are $10. Extra large sizes are $12.

Speaking of clothing, there are times during the school year when
All Saints Academy provides basic articles of clothing for students
in need. The school gratefully accepts donations of children’s
belts, socks (white, grey, or black), and new underwear. Contact
the school office if you would like to help in this way.
Mrs. Miller would like to thank the Christ the King Class of 1961 for
their visit to the school last Saturday. She enjoyed meeting former
students and giving a tour of the building. Some of the alumni
commented, “After all these years, some things haven’t changed!”
Outside the Parish
The Pontifical College Josephinum’s annual lecture series
begins this Thursday, September 17, with a presentation by
Richard M. Doerflinger, Associate Director of the USCCB
Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities. He will present “The New
Intolerance: Growing Threats to Pro-Life Americans’ Rights of
Conscience” at 7:00 p.m. in the Jessing Center on the Josephinum
Campus. The event is open to the public and free of charge. (This
event is in English.)
Next Sunday, September 20, is the annual Latino Pilgriamge
Day at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, Ohio.
There will be confessions at 10:00 a.m., Mass at 12:00 p.m., and
an outdoor rosary procession with the statue of Our Lady at 2:30
p.m.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul invites you to the 2015
“Friends of the Poor” Walk. The walk will take place at 10:00

A special Mass to celebrate the contribution of men and
women religious within our diocese will be held at 7:00 p.m.
on Thursday, October 15, at Saint Paul the Apostle Parish (313
North State Street, Westerville). The Mass will be celebrated by
Bishop Frederick F. Campbell and will be followed by a reception
in the parish activity center. A vocation fair for young women will
also take place at that time. All are invited to come and give thanks
for the contributions of consecrated religious in the life of our
Church!
