Father’s Day Prayer
We pray for our fathers, who have given us life
and love, that we may show them love and
affection today and all days.
We pray for fathers who have lost a child
through death, that their faith may give them
hope, may their family and friends support
and console them.
We pray for fathers who are parenting their
children alone. Strengthen them by your love
that they may be and become the loving,
caring persons they are meant to be.
We pray for fathers who have died, that God
may bring them into the joy of his kingdom.
Bless these men, that they may be strengthened
as Christian fathers. Let the example of their
faith and love shine forth. Grant that we,
their sons and daughters, may honor them
always with a spirit of profound respect.
FOOD FOR
THE POOR
While our present environmental situation is
indeed fragile, we may find it to be a blessing
as it has led us to realize God’s self revelation
in the Cosmic Christ, a realization we have
arrived at through suffering: earth’s suffering.
Deacon Andres Larraza will present a quick
report card, introduce us to the Cosmic Christ as viewed by Fr.
Richard Rohr, and end with some exegesis on the Christ Hymn
which appears in the first chapter of Colossians.
Deacon Andres serves at Our Lady of Refuge in Castroville, holds a
doctorate in physics from UCLA, and is a Physics Professor at the
Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey.
Please join us for adult faith formation
on June 21 at 6 pm, in the parish hall,
as we explore The Cosmic Christ.
Our capacity to understand, appreciate, and apply each basic teaching
develops over time. No matter how many MAs or PhDs we have after
our name, we always benefit from reflecting on the foundational truths
that God has revealed to us.
Please invite your friends – see you there!
This weekend we welcome Fr. Patrick Murphy, S.J.
who will be speaking at all our Masses about his
ministry with Food For the Poor.
L
oving God,
In you we have placed our hope and trust.
We know that the violence that takes place
throughout our world has no part with you.
We pray that you welcome into your arms
the victims of violence, terrorism and hatred.
Give comfort to their families
and all who grieve for their loss.
May your love take away the fear in our hearts
and dry the tears in our eyes.
We pray also that you give strength
to those who work for peace.

The History of the Diocese Monterey
In his article in the May 29th Bulletin, Fr. Russ wrote:
“In recognition of our golden anniversary as an independent
diocese of the central coast, Bishop Garcia has commissioned
a commemorative book titled The History of the Diocese
Monterey. I was able to preview a draft copy of this publication
recently and it will be a beautiful addition to any home library.
The quality of printing and binding is exceptional. The book
contains a full history of the Church in California, our Catholic
schools and religious orders, and an account of the establishment
of every parish our in diocese. The cost of this volume is $35
and it will be available in either English or Spanish. We must preorder, as there will be only one publishing. It would be helpful
to know of your interest. If you notify the parish office that
you wish to receive a copy of The History of the Diocese of
Monterey, we will reserve a copy for you which you may purchase
upon delivery, estimated to be September-October 2016.“
As he stated, we must pre-order, so if you are interested in
reserving a copy, please contact the Parish Office before they
are all gone.....

Our parish is doing its part! We have recently reduced
our energy use by installing LED bulbs throughout the parish
campus – offices, church, museum, youth center, rectory,
and hall. We are hoping to save over $2500 a year (being
good stewards of the blessing of your giving!). Thank you to
Richard Ochs and others who have helped make this happen.

EFLECTION OF THE WEEK
June 19, 2016
12th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Luke starts his Gospel with “when
Jesus was praying.” In the Gospel of
Luke, this is a signal that a significant
event is about to occur. Jesus asks
the disciples, who were with him,
who the crowds say that he is. After
hearing the responses, Jesus asks
who they, the disciples, say that
he is. Peter, speaking for the other
disciples, identifies Jesus as “The
Christ of God.” Christ translates into
“Messiah” or “anointed one.”
Immediately following Peter’s
acknowledgement of Jesus’ identity,
Jesus predicts his suffering, Death,
and Resurrection. Jesus then tells
that disciples that anyone who
wishes to follow him must “deny
himself and take up his cross daily.”

are, and what you can do to help.
Members of the Social Justice Ministry met
for the last session of the year and discussed
tentative plans for the 2016- 2017 year.
National programs such as Bread for the
World and Unbound are under consideration,
as well as ways in which the parish might
support our own. The annual Fall Harvest
Drive will be held to collect needed items for a
local agency, and the Lenten Study Group may
focus on Pope Francis’ Encyclical on Marriage
and Family. Speakers will be invited to our
monthly meetings and refreshments will be
available.
Keep your eye on the weekly bulletins for
news of coming events.

WELCOME HOME, ALPHA BABY BOTTLES
Happy Fathers’ Day! We hope that, in the
midst of your celebrations, you remembered
to grab that ALPHA baby bottle on your way
out the door. If not, we will have our baskets
at the doors next weekend also, or you can call
or stop by the ALPHA office – we would love
to see you there. Your bottles full of change
(or bills or checks!) will go a long way to help
ALPHA change the lives of families so they
will have happy Fathers’ Days in the future.
Thank you for helping us change lives.

Duodécimo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
A
S
me siga” (Lucas 9:23).

necesarios. Gracias por su cooperación.
Terry Burrows - [email protected] - 781-8220 ext 15
