1. To develop standard laboratory methods for the
rearing of the principal South American Triatomine
species as a source of biological material for insecticide
bioassays. To rear Aedes aegypti, vector of dengue.
2. To establish in a comparative way the actual
insecticidal & residual activity of insecticide compounds
involved in the control of Chagas Disease & dengue
vectors according to a standard protocol, on relevant
South American Triatomine species & Aedes aegypti.
3. To apply the standard protocol in the monitoring of
pyrethroid resistance in Triatomine species involved in
the transmission of Chagas Disease in the different
endemic areas of the Continent.
4. To study the insecticide resistance mechanisms &
cross resistance profile in Triatomine strains in order to
establish strategies for alternative control.
5. To develop & serve as reference laboratory of a
Latin American network to assure quality control of
insecticides for vector control & to monitor
susceptibility & resistance of Chagas & dengue vectors
to insecticides in different countries.
6. To develop training courses on monitoring of
susceptibility & resistance of Chagas & dengue vectors
to insecticides for the technical personnel of the
Ministries of Health in the different countries.
7. To search for alternative insecticides & application
methodologies that are safe, more appropriate & more
cost-effective for triatomines & Aedes aegyti control.
