Pastor's Note - Solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe
When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne, and all
the nations will be assembled before him." (Matthew 25:31)
Today is the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe. Today is the culmination of the liturgical
year. This is a fitting conclusion to the year long journey of the life of Christ celebrated during the different liturgical
season. It is hoped that we come to a closer experience of Christ and a step closer to conforming our lives to His. The
solemnity celebrates the fulfillment of the promise of God through Christ and we rejoice under his glory and reign. As
we look into the words of Jesus through the gospel of Matthew, we ask ourselves how would we fare? How will we be
sorted as the sheep of His flock? If Jesus is to come at this very moment, will we be sorted as sheep or as goats. Will we
join Him in the triumphant kingdom celebrated by our solemnity today?
As we are about to enter the new liturgical year, there are a few things I want us to consider. We are given another
chance to celebrate the life of Christ throughout the liturgical season's movement through the year. We have another
chance to dwell deeper into the mysteries that unfold in the different moments of Christ's life celebrated in the liturgy.
We bring our lives closer to Christ and be the encounter of Christ to our world today It may also be the time to look into
the participation we do in terms of the financial support of the parish. You will see that we continue to improve the
environment of our worship space. I hope you consider perhaps increasing your periodic parish contribution and
consider the electronic fund transfer (EFT), this will facilitate the regularity of contributions and allow me to prudently
use the financial resources you entrust and improve our experience of Christ in our parish community.
This week, we also celebrate Thanksgiving Day. I extend, on behalf of the entire parish staff, our gratitude for the
opportunity to serve you.
God bless!
In Christ
Fr. Brian Atienza

Thanksgiving Day Collection
We have a unique opportunity to serve the most
needy people here in Elk Grove. Funds collected on
Thanksgiving Day will go to support two Transition
Houses here in Elk Grove. The second house will be
opening around the first of the year for homeless
families who are committed to turning their lives
around. The first $1,000 collected will be matched
by an anonymous donor.
St. Joseph’s Thanksgiving Tradition of bringing
your bread and wine to be blessed for your family’s
meal will continue this year. At the same time we
are asked to share with others who are not so
fortunate. Please bring non-perishable foods and
children’s and men’s clothing. You may drop the
clothes in the St. Vincent de Paul barrel in the
vestibule or the Renwald Room. If you ar e
unable to donate food and clothing on Thanksgiving
Day, you may leave them in the SVDP gold barrel
in the vestibule at any time. Men’s and children’s
clothing is desperately needed at this time. Please
save your women’s clothes for Granny’s Attic in
May/June.

Christmas Giving Tree Project
The Christmas “Giving Tree” is now up in our vestibule along with a smaller tree with tags labeled
“shoe box.” Again this year our gifts will go to the children of the Moral Values Program in Sacramento.
Please take a tag or two and you can be assured that you will be making Christmas brighter for a less fortunate child. Please tape the tag to your wrapped gift and return it to the church by December 21st. The gifts
will be taken to MVP after Christmas in the Mexican tradition that gifts were not shared until the Feast of
the Epiphany. If you have any questions please contact Lana Mason at 354-3855. Thank you for your
generosity and caring.
