Cáceres por Maquinal
La pareja de bailarines Adrián Veredice y Alejandra
Hobert estuvieron en noviembre en Buenos Aires luego
de una gira de siete meses por prestigiosos escenarios
alrededor del mundo: Estados
Unidos, Francia, Alemania,
Grecia, Italia, Suecia, Turquía,
Hungría, Australia, Taiwan,
Corea y Polonia. Además de dar
exhibiciones de tango en las
milongas de El Beso y Salón
Canning, estuvieron preparando y ensayando el show Otango.
La agrupación Maquinal Tango presentó su disco, homónimo, grabado entre los meses de agosto de 2005 y julio
de 2006. Este es el primer trabajo discográfico que Demarco Electronic Project produce por completo y en el que aparecen varios estilos dentro de un
mismo género.
En el material se priorizó cada una
de las melodías originales de
Juan Carlos Cáceres, obteniendo un
excelente resultado. Además de los
temas que integran el repertorio del
músico argentino, se destaca una
renovada versión del tango La casita
de mis viejos, entre otros.

The ultimate show
La compañía Artemis, dirigida
por Olivier Tilkin, comienza su
nueva gira con su show
Otango. En diciembre se presentarán en Bélgica y durante
marzo y abril, en Italia. Los
bailarines que forman parte del proyecto son Chistian
Márquez y Virginia Gómez, Paula Rubín y Mariano
Galeano, Sabrina Masso y Fernando Gracia, Claudio
González y Melina Brufman y Adrián Veredice y
Alejandra Hobert junto a la Orquesta Tanguisimo y las
voces de Jose Luis Barreto y Claudia Pannone. La coordinación y coreografías grupales estuvieron a cargo de
Veredice y Hobert y el vestuario, de Mona Estecho.

A fines de noviembre se estrenó en el Teatro Maipo
Hernán Buenosayres, con los protagónicos de Hernán
Piquín y Miriam Coelho, además de un elenco compuesto por once bailarines, orquesta y una cantante.
En el musical se relatan las peripecias de un habitante
de la gran urbe que paradójicamente busca a la Mujer
Ideal. “Las coreógrafas Margarita Fernández y Laura
Roatta sumergen al
protagonista en un
purgatorio porteño”
explicaron los organizadores. Además el
espectáculo cuenta
con diseño de vestuario de Francisco Ayala,

Por amor al Gotan
La cantante Mariana Domínguez presentó durante
noviembre su espectáculo en el
Café Homero, en el que eligió
interpretar a la gran cantidad de
autores, estilos y géneros que
confluyen en su primer material
discográfico. Buenos Aires, amor
y tangos no sólo está formado
por un repertorio de tangos,
sino también candombes,
milongas y valses. De esta
forma, la intérprete porteña, que

Necochea, volvió a Buenos Aires para traer su música y
espera repetir pronto la apuesta.
Los tangos de Caracol
El domingo 12 de Noviembre, en Los 36 Billares,
Roberto “Caracol” Paviotti propuso una renovada expresión del arte ciudadano, en el lanzamiento de su sexto
disco titulado Cantar.
El nuevo material discográfico de Caracol reúne temas
como Cordón; Parte Del
Juego, Tinta Roja y El
Conventillo, entre otros; que
fueron interpretados bajo la
dirección artística y musical
de Paviotti. Lo acompañaron músicos como Jose
Teixidó en guitarra, Nicolás
Perrone en bandoneón, Juan
Pablo Gallardo en piano,
Patricio Cotella en contrabajo, Ana Serena Elgarte en
flauta traversa, entre otros.

Espectáculos
Episodios Cifrados
en Tango
ué buena idea venir a verlos!” dice una de
las páginas del libro de visitas que los
organizadores de Episodios cifrados en tango han
puesto en la entrada del Teatro El Cubo, para que
todos dejen su huella. Allí, en el corazón del Abasto,
el espectáculo que reunió entre el 5 y el 26 de
noviembre a la pareja de bailarines Claudio González
y Melina Brufman y al cantor Guillermo Fernández,
consiguió arrancar aplausos y volvió a demostrar el
valor del trabajo autogestionado y profesional.
El show estuvo enmarcado en un escenario despojado de toda utilería. Un negro profundo fue el
espacio que los bailarines llenaron con color, solo
como producto de su sobrado talento. Episodios…
se estructuró en siete cuadros que presentaron diferentes historias. La Presentación: Humanidad, arrancó con la dupla de bailarines compartiendo “ese último tango del final, el que señala el cierre en una
pareja” dicen, además llega a escena Fernández,
para dejar que lo descubramos en un papel más
actoral que musical; así lo veremos y escucharemos
cinco veces, una mejor que la otra.
Luego de las introducciones, el espectáculo ya
estaba planteado, un recorrido por las relaciones
humanas a través de la expresión cultural que representa el dos por cuatro. Los siguientes episodios fueron variando las participaciones, en Episodio I: La
Despedida y II: La Presa, Brufman y González dibujarán maravillosamente la percusión de En esta tarde
Gris y Verano Porteño. A estos le siguen Historias de
Esquineros, Episodio III: Los Cautivos y Episodio
Final: La Humanidad. En todos el trío de artistas consiguió transmitir al auditorio ese sabor del tango sentido, de la pasión, el dolor y la melancolía que inundan la música popular argentina y, está visto, los
llena de energía para este espectáculo en el que el
talento es moneda corriente.

Sin descanso
Luego del éxito alcanzado con el 1er. Certamen Pre
Mundial de Tango Río Negro, realizado meses atrás en
la localidad de Luis Beltrán, sus organizadores anunciaron que continuarán “trabajando para la segunda edición del año próximo dado que todo el sur necesita de
un lugar como éste donde todas las clases sociales pueden disfrutar en familia esta nueva propuesta cultural y
turística de manos del tango”.

En diciembre, el Palais de Glace volverá a ser escenario
de la danza nacional, con la cuarta edición del Festival de
Tango Joven, que cerrará su ciclo iniciado en la provincia
de Mendoza. El evento es organizado por la secretaría de
Cultura y auspiciado por la secretaría de Turismo de la
Nación con entrada libre y gratuita y propone la fusión
del tango con las nuevas tendencias y las diversas expresiones artísticas contemporáneas.
“La idea de Tango Joven surge a través de la necesidad
de acercar el tango a quienes lo creen aburrido, triste o
pasado de moda” dijeron los organizadores que agregaron que “el tango sigue hablando de nuestra identidad y
refleja ahora, al igual que antes, nuestra forma de pensar,
de sentir y de relacionarnos con los demás.Y esto vale
para los grandes como para los jóvenes, porque las letras
de tango hablan de cosas que nos pasan a todos”.

Los viernes y sábados de noviembre,
Soledad Villamil presentó un show
de valses, milongas camperas, chamarritas, rancheras y tangos, en el
Torquato Tasso.
La protagonista de las series
televisivas Vulnerables y Locas de
amor, luego de Glorias Porteñas,
volvió a los escenarios como
cantante en una nueva propuesta netamente musical con
canciones de Atahualpa
Yupanqui, Alfredo Zitarrosa,
J. M. Aguilar, y la dupla
Jiménez-Aieta, entre otros
compositores.
Premios Cóndor de fuego
Como hace 19 años, la Asociación
Estampas y Memorias entregó el
Premio Cóndor de Fuego 2006, en
una ceremonia que se desarrolló en
el Salón Dorado de la
Municipalidad de La Plata.
Entre los ganadores estuvieron la
cantora platense Graciela Siman,
entre artistas de todo el país.
“Estas cosas son caricias al corazón, como los aplausos que nos brinda el público en cada actuación”,
dijo Siman sobre esta distinción.

En noviembre, el trío conformado por Pablo Yanis en
bandoneón, Mariano Gil en guitarra y Juan Fracchi en
contrabajo, presentó su disco, La Carroña, en el Abasto.
Durante el espectáculo, interpretaron obras como
Pablo y El choclo, de principios del 1900, pasando por
Piazzolla y Rovira.También se dieron el gusto de tocar
composiciones actuales y propias. En cada tema, los jóvenes músicos lograron remitir al recuerdo de los sólidos
exponentes del género con una interpretación bien sentida y comprometida.

Cerrando el año, Alejandro Santos presenta el 16 de
diciembre su nuevo disco, en La Biblioteca Café. Bajo el
nombre de Visión Panamericana, el flautista combina ritmos rioplatenses como candombe, tango y folclore;
fusionado con las corrientes más modernas del jazz y la
música contemporánea.
“Trato de reflejar en mis composiciones los ritmos y
climas propios de nuestra región, en el momento que
vivimos, en una suerte de fusión rioplatense, sudamericana y universal”, explicó.

uarden toda suspicacia aquellos que, observando nombres y
posiciones de las calles porteñas, pretendan descubrir cruces
simbólicos, presencias o ausencias sugestivas, extensiones proporcionales a la calidad del homenaje, y otras relaciones semejantes.
La mejor comprobación de que el largo de las calles no siempre está
relacionado con sus nombres, la hace el tango: sus entrañables protagonistas solo tienen escasos metros de memoria en el empedrado de
la gran ciudad.
Carlos Gardel
Cuando en 1961 el Boletín Municipal 11.725 trajo publicada la
ordenanza nº 18.252, quedó oficialmente bautizada la calle
Carlos Gardel.
Se trataba del re-nombramiento de un pequeño tramo de la
calle Guardia Vieja, entre Anchorena y Jean Jaurés. La elección
de este fragmento no fue trivial: la zona del Abasto había sido el
primer escenario de Gardel y su permanente lugar de referencia; la calle quedaba delimitada por el Mercado y por la arteria
donde a pocas cuadras estaba la casa que habitara; por último,
su misma condición de pasaje, de cortada, le confería un aire
más “tanguero”.
Eran (y son) apenas cien metros. Modesto encuentro, por
cierto, el del máximo intérprete con la nomenclatura porteña;
pero modesto y en su barrio como lo hubiera preferido él.
Los pedidos para que existiera una calle Carlos Gardel
habían comenzado en 1935. Por ejemplo, el poeta Francisco

Raimundo (“Chilo”) escribía, a pocas semanas del fallecimiento
del cantor: “En nombre del Arte pido, / como el más fiel emisario / a
este y aquel mandatario / que no te echen al olvido; / y que con justo
sentido / a tu sagrada memoria / la calle recordatoria / pongan con tu
nombre fiel, / la calle Carlos Gardel / como grabando tu historia…”
Pues bien: un cuarto de siglo después se hizo realidad. Más
tarde vinieron una plazoleta (en 1973) y una estación del tren
subterráneo (en diciembre de 1984).

Elías Alippi
El recorrido del colectivo 175 lo lleva por la Avenida de los
Constituyentes hasta la calle Manuel A. Prado, en donde dobla
buscando lo que antes era la Grafa, hoy convertida en un supermercado. Se interna en un distrito de edificios iguales y callecitas cortas con nombres de actores: Sebastián Chiola, Elsa
O’Connor, José Gola, César Ratti. Una de ellas es Elías Alippi.
Además de actor, dramaturgo y empresario, Alippi (18831942) fue un gran tanguero. Bailarín de primer orden, fue también el autor de algunos pocos tangos; el más famoso de ellos,
La Payasa, que grabó Ignacio Corsini en 1922. Su música es la
misma de Gran Hotel Victoria. Alippi firmó la letra de La
Payasa junto a Carlos Schaeffer Gallo, autor teatral ignorado
por la guía Filcar.
Frente al Hospicio de las Mercedes, sobre lo que antes era la
calle Barracas (hoy Dr. Ramón Carrillo), desemboca la cortada Eduardo Arolas. Lejos de todo pintoresquismo, breve
y casi escondida está la memoria hecha calzada de uno de
los principales compositores que tuvo el tango; su otro
extremo es el paredón de las vías del Sud.
Cerca de allí, en un astroso cafetín vecino a la vieja estación Sola, podía vérselo a Arolas hacia 1906 tocando guitarra. El bandoneón llegaría después.

Según contaron, la compañía argentina de
tango Estampas Porteñas convocó a más
de 6000 personas en un espectáculo ofrecido en octubre en Houston, Texas.
En el mismo acto se pudo ver a Carolina
Soler, directora y fundadora de la compañía muy feliz porque el Instituto de Cultura
Hispánico, le entregó a una placa por la
trayectoria y el nivel artístico de Estampas.
Además, Bill White, Gobernador del
Estado texano, proclamó el 14 de octubre, como el Día de Estampas Porteñas
en Houston.
La compañía está conformada por cinco
parejas de bailarines, un cantante y una
orquesta de cinco músicos entre otros
integrantes y cuenta con un repertorio
extenso que va desde Gardel y Lepera
hasta Piazzolla, que cautivaron a una ciudad donde la música “country” es la que
está presente en la mayor parte de las
radios locales.

El musical Sueños de Tango presentó
una sucesión de cuadros y la historia de
una joven rusa que revisando entre los
recuerdos de sus abuelos descubre que
ellos bailaban tango, despertando en ella

Fueron seis funciones con críticas de primer nivel por los medios especializados,
motivo por el que se acordaron nuevas funciones para el mes de diciembre de este año.
Es la cuarta vez que Mayra Galante y
Silvio Grand viajan de gira a Rusia. En
una de las oportunidades protagonizaron
el espectáculo Tango con las estrellas
que tuvo lugar en el Capella Concert Hall,

Festival, durante el mes de septiembre.
Los aficionados del tango, tanto de ese
país como extranjeros, se mostraron “muy
satisfechos” durante la presentación de
cada espectáculo que llevó algo de la
música nacional argentina, a esas latitudes.
Durante los tres días que duró el festival,
la gente disfrutó de workshops durante el
día y milongas por la noche, y el cierre del
festival fue con una milonga al aire libre, en
el Repuburic Trg, en el centro de Belgrado,
que fue colmada por aficionados al dos
por cuatro y todos aquellos ciudadanos
que paseaban por el lugar.

It has been 23 years since the mythical
show that propelled tango into a new
phase premiered in Paris. The success
was due as much to the music as to the
dance, in which surprised audiences discovered choreography they had never seen
before. The world became fanatical about
our music. EL TANGAUTA interviewed its
emblematic director Claudio Segovia and
top-level artists that were part of its cast:
Milena Plebs, Osvaldo Berlingeri, María
Graña and Nélida Rodriguez.
e was passionate about the theater since
his childhood. He studied Fine Arts ("a
career that takes eleven years, I did in seven",
he says without false modesty) and when he
finished he traveled to Europe and upon his
return he worked in theater as stage and costume designer. Further on he felt the need to
create the whole show: "So I began with
'Flamenco Puro', that premiered during a
Holy Week in Seville, later came ' Tango
Argentino', then 'Black and Blue', ' Noche
Tropical' and now i.

How did the idea of the show come up?
In some way I was always passionate
about tango. My parents loved all LatinAmerican popular music and above all tango,
so all those rhythms were part of my life
since childhood. During the decade of the
'40s, the time of splendor of tango, I was a
boy (now I am 73 years old) and I already felt
that love for tango.
In my youth, during the '50s, I shared that
taste with a few friends since in general the
preference was for jazz, perhaps because of
the prejudice that always existed about tango
because of its origins, related to the bad
aspects of life. Today I believe that deep
down in their hearts porteños always loved
tango, although they pretended not to.

How did the selection of artists take place?
When the project became a reality I contacted Juan Carlos Copes and María Nieves,
then other dancers like Nélida and Nelson,
Virulazo and Elvira and Mayoral and Elsa
María. At first I thought to do it with Aníbal
Troilo as musical director, but when he
passed away, I spoke with (Ástor) Piazzolla.
He was very anxious and wanted to sign a
contract immediately, an impossible thing
because I had not signed mine yet. Finally I
did it with Horacio Salgán, José Libertella and
Luis Stazo as musical directors, the Sexteto
Mayor as musicians and singers Roberto
Goyeneche, Raúl Lavié, Elba Berón, Jovita
Luna and Maria Graña. The team was completed with dancers María and Carlos
Rivarola, Mónica and Luciano, who along
with Gloria and Eduardo and the Dinzels (who
would join the cast a year later), were the only
professional dancers in Buenos Aires at the
beginning of the '80s. Cecilia Narova participated as soloist dancer and actor Jorge Luz
did a comedy routine called “Amorfotango”.
How was the début?
We prepared in Buenos Aires and the day
before the departure to Paris we did a dress
rehearsal at the Alvear Theater without lights,
decor or wardrobe. We invited a group of
friends who, after seeing it, thought that it
was a shame that people of talent had
thought about taking tango to Paris, something they thought would not be liked in that
city above all because of the cast of older
people, the excess weight of some of the
dancers, they were a far cry from the image
of mundane stylized tango dancers known in
the old world. We arrived at the theater in
Paris and the director of the Fall Festival,
Michel Guy, requested a dress rehearsal for
the press; I answered that it was impossible
to do it without the lights and technology.
Then he opened the curtain and I saw that the
room was full of journalists and photographers. I decided then to do a singing number
and one with the ballet. I chose Jovita Luna to
sing “Moriré en Buenos Aires” and I showed
the end of the show where all the couples
danced “Danzarín” y “Quejas de bandoneón”.
The moment Jovita began, the "Bravos!"
started, together with a rain of flashes from
the photographers, something incredible...
When the dance began there was a great ovation and at the end an apotheosis of
applause. At six in the morning I bought the
newspapers and in "Liberation" we had the
cover in color and three inside pages. In “Le
Matin" and "Le Monde", the cover and two
inside pages. The night of November 13,
1983, we premiered in the Great Theater of
Chatelet in Paris with a completely full theatre
and in a few hours the seats for the season
were sold out. The show began forty minutes
late due to the fact that there were twice as
many people as there were seats; they were
on the stairs and walkways. The following
day they had to take strict security measures
because of the danger due to the fact that it
was an old building. During the rest of the
performances and in spite of the fact that it
was snowing in Paris, there were people at
the door of the theater with placards asking
for more tickets.
What did Tango Argentino mean en the
history of tango?
I am not saying it; these are the words of
Mr. Enrique Cadícamo: “Tango in the year
1983 was a memory” and the show put it in
the world so that a true wave of passion for it
began. I think that since the death of Gardel
there had been a great vacuum. The world
knew the music and the singing, but not the
Argentine way of dancing it; they had seen a
European, Spanish or American style of
tango. With the show’s success in 1985 on
Broadway, the international public discovered
the dance of tango as a phenomenon. The
show was seen by the most important
dancers and choreographers of the 20th century as Martha Graham, Agnes De Mille,
Jerome Robbins, Mikhail Baryshnikov,
Rudolf Nureyev, personalities like Jacqueline
Kennedy, or Hollywood stars like Frank
Sinatra, Shirley McLaine, Liza Minelli, Kirk
Douglas and Anthony Queen.
Tango Argentino interested a public that
was not Broadway’s usual one, they were not
the tourists that are taken in a bus to see a
show, but a cultured public that even came
dressed as in the show, the women in black,
the men with hair-gel. Tango was not only
inside the theater, tangomania radiated
through the whole city.
Was a fashion created?
I don’t like that word very much; I prefer to
say a feeling was awakened, of love and passion for tango. After the event, in many cities
of the world there were many people that
began to learn to dance it and they started to
come to Buenos Aires. Many couples found
each other again through the dance and
made of it a vital focal point.
How do you see tango today?
A great interest has been generated both in
Argentina and in the rest of the world that
unfortunately was not conducted on a cultivated way, but was an empirical development. The dance went through many phases,
in some cases through a tango of exaggeratedly acrobatic figures, without concentration
on the music and not keeping in mind elegance and beat. In the musical area the great
masters remained, like Horacio Salgán,
Julián Plaza, Leopoldo Federico, Osvaldo
Berlingeri, Atilio Stampone and others, all
truly extraordinary, sublime artists. There
also continued to exist dancers that are faithful to the milonguero tradition. But there
were many people, both singers and dancers
that devaluated its essence and projected
themselves without keeping tradition in
mind; inventing their own ways of performing it. I believe that fortunately this aspect
today is changing. I see an interest in working more from the root.
MARIA GRAÑA
1 – What was Tango Argentino?
– Tango Argentino is explained by a little
history: the last important presentation of the
tango in the world had been Gardel in Paris in
1928. Tango Argentino gathered more than
sixty years later “Polaco” Goyeneche, Elba
Berón, Jovita Luna, Raúl Lavié and Horacio
Salgan playing with the orchestra of the
Sexteto Mayor. There was also actor Jorge
Luz doing a fantastic parody of female tango
singers of the style of Tita Merello: he
appeared dressed like a classical dancer, with
toe shoes. Dance couple Copes –Nieves were
marvelous and unique. In sum, the success
of Tango Argentino was the result of the talent of these great artists.
2 – What was your performande like?
– My participation was that of the strong
and visceral singer, I sang Sin Palabras,
Canción desesperada, Caserón de tejas, this
in the first tour. Later it was modified and I
added Cautivo that is also a very strong tango
and with a lot of oomph.

3 – ¿What did it mean for your career?
– I had had an impeccable career for many
years but did not have the level of participation that I did after the show, it brought me to
center stage. I am forever grateful to Claudio
Segovia for choosing me, because I discovered tango abroad, and because of the success of the show I began to travel, it was the
initial kick-off for a new phase in my career, a
way to live again.
4 – ¿What did Tango Argentino mean in the
history of tango?
– It was a unique show. They might perform it again but it will never be like the first
one. It was fantastic thanks to the level of the
performers, who united, gave an injection of
power to our music. All the tango shows that
were done afterwards copied it.
MILENA PLEBS
– It was a surprise for the international
public to see this dance where the couple is
in an intense embrace and all the steps from
the waist down have intertwined movements,
at times at great speed. People that did not
understand the code thought it was improbable that the couple could develop such complex steps at such speed without colliding or
kicking each other. The component that, I
believe, made the most impact was the
romantic aspect: a couple embraced and
dancing is like an ideal of romanticism.
– Along with Miguel Angel Zotto we danced
La Cumparsita. It was the central dance of
the show, in the Valentino style of tango, the
one better known abroad, with a very sophisticated wardrobe which is why our pictures
appeared a lot. They started to applaud as
soon as they heard the first bars.
– It was my luxury school, I had begun to
dance tango with Miguel Angel Zotto not very
long before, I came from dancing contemporary dance in the San Martin Theater.
Adapting was difficult because it was a very
different dance, to dance in high heels, following somebody else, but I had to adapt in
the framework of this top-level show, studying with the best. During the tour Copes,
Nieves, Virulazo y Elvira, and the Dinzels
taught us. They were the best models, I
copied absolutely everything from María
Nieves, she is my model as a dancer, and I
could not have had a better education.

– It was a movement to the global level;
today even in the smallest cities of the most
hidden places there is a tango academy.
NÉLIDA RODRIGUEZ
– A show should touch people but Tango
Argentino developed an esthetics that did not
use low blows or easy ways to do it, as at
times you can recognize in other shows. The
show was generated keeping its essence and
total authenticity, without losing what is most
valuable, its roots. I believe, then, that one of
the many merits of the show is how its directors Claudio Segovia and Hector Orezzolli
knew how to express the subject without taking away that sort of virginity for the sake of
making it more theatrical.
– It changed with time. At the beginning we
were six couples in all the choreographic
history of tango?
– It is enormous the way in which the show
Tango Argentino has modified the history of
tango. I remember that when I began to dance
it had fallen behind, there was a lot of influence of foreign music, people were not interested, and very little tango was included in
shows. The milongas were reduced and
young people did not have a lot of interest in
tango. Once international success places
Argentine tango in the world and at that level,
the attitude towards it changed. Young people
started to be interested and the milongas had
a revival. Success was and still is caused by
foreigners. It is not a secret for anybody that
for many years there has been an enormous
amount of foreigners that come not for
tourism but for a very precise reason that is
tango: to watch shows, to go to milongas to
take classes, it is impressive. For this reason
the resurgence of the milongas is outstanding
and remarkable. It was almost a revolution.
OSVALDO BERLINGERI
– It had it all: dance, song, and music. It
was a complete show that touched the world.
– I was the third musical director. The first
one was José Libertella then came Luis
Stazo. I did the arrangements of La Puñalada
and Canaro en París. I also had a solo of the
tango Nunca tuvo novio with Raúl Lavié joining afterwards, a solo of Los Mareados with
my own arrangement accompanying Alba
Solís and at the end with all the dancers.
When we went to New York in the year 2000,
I was responsible for the musical direction.
– It was quite a positive step for me, I was
already known for having been with Pichuco
but the show was unique. At the start it was
very exciting, later we became used to it
because we understood that we deserved the
public’s attention. I was very happy about the
fact that Claudio Segovia and Hector Orezzolli
called me, I had a great time, and it was one
of the nicest things in my life to have participated in the show for so long.
history of tango?
– It was what pushed tango up again,
because it was down, not completely but… It
was a tremendous success. Tango was going
in that direction because there were no
tourists coming to our country and Argentine
people were not interested in it.

– Although I was already a tango professional, undoubtedly there was a before and
an after. At times one is comfortable in one’s
career looking at the finger in front of you;
the show helped me to mature, to grow and
to look at it from a different place. I got to
know the extraordinary vision of Claudio
Segovia and Hector Orezzolli with respect to
tango, their view about all that concerns the
stage and the artistic angle. We had the privilege to be in all the tours and performances
and during those years of traveling through
the world, almost without stopping, I discovered new ideas even for the genre.

profundo… cómo explicarlo... Uno
de tus grandes problemas es la coordinación. No me refiero a la motricidad fina,
que para ello has invertido tus buenos
mangos en dudosos y prestigiosos maestros. Me refiero más bien a la coordinación de nuestro postergado encuentro.
Pareciera, querida mía, que no terminás
de entender el juego, y eso es poco menos
que un pecado.

Se cumplen 23 años del estreno en París
del mítico show que introdujo al tango
en una nueva etapa. El éxito
fue tanto de la música como del baile,
que sorprendió al público al descubrir
una coreografía que no había visto nunca
antes. El mundo se fanatizó por nuestra
música ciudadana. El tangauta entrevistó
a su emblemático director Claudio Segovia
y a artistas de primer nivel que formaron
parte de su elenco: Milena Plebs, Osvaldo
Berlingeri, María Graña y Nélida Rodríguez.

esde pequeño tuvo pasión por el
teatro. Estudió Bellas Artes (“una
carrera que es de once años la hice
en siete”, cuenta sin falsa modestia) y
cuando se recibió viajó a Europa y a su
regreso trabajó en teatro como escenógrafo y figurinista. Más adelante sintió la
necesidad de crear la totalidad del espectáculo: “Es así que comencé con
Flamenco Puro, que se estrenó durante
una Semana Santa en Sevilla , después
fue Tango Argentino, luego Black and

¿Cómo surgió la idea del show?
De alguna manera siempre tuve
pasión por el tango. Mis padres eran
amantes de toda la música popular latinoamericana y sobre todo del tango, lo
cual contribuyó a que todos esos ritmos
fueran parte de mi vida desde muy
pequeño. Durante la década del ‘40, la
gran época de esplendor del tango, yo
era un niño (ahora tengo 73 años) y ya
sentía ese amor por el tango.
Luego de joven, durante los años ‘50,
compartí ese gusto con contados amigos
ya que en general la preferencia era el
jazz, tal vez por el prejuicio que siempre
existió de ser mal visto el tango por
causa de sus orígenes relacionados con la
mala vida. Hoy creo que en lo mas íntimo del corazoncito de los porteños
siempre les encantó el tango, aunque
simularan lo contrario.
¿Cómo fue la selección de artistas?
Cuando se concretó el proyecto tomé
contacto con Juan Carlos Copes y María
Nieves, luego con otros bailarines como
Nélida y Nelson,Virulazo y Elvira y
Mayoral y Elsa María. En un principio
pensé hacerlo con Aníbal Troilo como
director musical, pero cuando falleció,
hablé con (Ástor) Piazzolla. Èl era muy
ansioso y quería firmar contrato inmediatamente, cosa imposible mientras yo
no tuviera firmado el mío. Finalmente lo
hice con Horacio Salgán, José Libertella
y Luis Stazo como directores musicales,
el Sexteto Mayor como músicos y como
verlo opinaron que era una pena que
gente de talento hubiéramos pensado en
llevar tango a Paris, algo que era difícil
que gustara en esa ciudad sobretodo con

y Eduardo y los Dinzel (que se incorporarían un año después), eran los únicos
bailarines profesionales que había en
Buenos Aires a principios de los ‘80.
Cecilia Narova intervenía como bailarina
solista y el actor Jorge Luz en un número de humor titulado “Amorfotango”.
un elenco de gente grande, con algunos
de los bailarines excedidos de peso, lejos
de la imagen de danzarines mundanos
estilizados con que se conocía el tango en
el viejo mundo. Llegamos al Teatro en
París y el director del Festival de Otoño,
Michel Guy, nos pidió un ensayo general
para la prensa a lo que respondí que era
imposible hacerlo sin luces y tecnología
acordes. Entonces él corrió el telón y vi
que la sala estaba llena de periodistas y
fotógrafos. Resolví por lo tanto hacer un
cuadro cantado y uno de ballet. Elegí a
Jovita Luna para cantar Moriré en Buenos
Aires y mostré el final del espectáculo
donde todas las parejas interpretaban
Danzarín y Quejas de bandoneón. No bien
Jovita comenzó , empezaron los “¡Bravo!”
y una lluvia de flashes de los fotógrafos,
algo increíble... Cuando llegó el baile hubo
una gran ovación y el final fue una apoteosis de aplausos. A las seis de la mañana
compré los diarios y en “Liberation” teníamos la tapa en colores y tres páginas
interiores; en “Le Matin” y “Le Monde”,
la tapa y dos páginas interiores.

La preparación fue en Buenos Aires y
el día anterior a la partida hacia París, hicimos un ensayo general en el Teatro Alvear
sin luces, decorados ni vestuario.

La historia de “Tango Argentino”
La noche del 13 de noviembre de
1983 estrenamos en el Gran Teatro de
Chatelet de París con un público que
colmaba la sala y en pocas horas se agotaron las localidades para toda la temporada. El show debió empezar cuarenta
minutos más tarde debido a que había el
doble de público de la capacidad de la
sala que se ubicaba como podía por
escaleras y pasillos. Al día siguiente
debieron tomar estrictas medidas de
seguridad por el peligro que significaba
esto por la antigüedad del edificio.
Durante el resto de las funciones y a
pesar de que nevaba en París había gente
en la puerta del teatro con carteles
pidiendo más entradas.
¿Qué significó Tango Argentino
en la historia del tango?
No lo he dicho yo sino son palabras
de Don Enrique Cadícamo: “El tango en
el año 1983 era un recuerdo” y fue
ponerlo en el mundo para que empezara
una verdadera ola de pasión por él.
Pienso que desde la muerte de Gardel
había un gran vacío. En el mundo se
conocía la música y el canto, pero no la
forma argentina de bailarlo, habían visto
un baile de tango europeo, español o

Es enorme lo que Tango Argentino ha modificado la
historia del tango. Recuerdo que cuando comencé a
bailarlo el tango estaba bastante caído, no había interés
en él, había mucha influencia de músicas extranjeras,
se incluía poco en los espectáculos. El éxito internacional del show coloca al tango argentino en el mundo y
se modifica la actitud. Muchos jóvenes comienzan a
interesarse y las milongas tienen un resurgimiento. El
éxito lo hizo, y lo hace aún, el extranjero. No es un
secreto para nadie que desde hace muchos años hay
una enorme cantidad de extranjeros que vienen no por
turismo sino por una meta muy puntual que es el
tango. Por esta razón el resurgimiento es notable. Fue
casi una revolución.

Tango Argentino fue un escalón bastante positivo para

Troilo) Pichuco pero el show fue único. Al principio

Héctor Orezzolli me convocaran, la pasé muy bien, fue
uno de los hechos más lindos de mi vida estar tanto

sino un público cultivado que incluso
venía vestido como en el espectáculo,
mujeres de negro, hombres engominados. El tango no estaba sólo dentro del
teatro, la tangomanía se irradiaba por
toda la ciudad.
¿Se creó una moda?
Esa palabra no me gusta mucho, prefiero decir que se despertó un sentimiento, amor y pasión por el tango. Luego del
suceso, en muchas ciudades del mundo
hubo mucha gente que comenzó a
aprender a bailarlo y empezaron a venir
a Buenos Aires. Muchas parejas se reencontraron a través del baile y lo convirtieron en un centro vital.
¿Cómo ve el tango hoy?
Se ha generado un gran interés tanto
en la Argentina como en el mundo que
desgraciadamente no fue conducido de
una forma cultivada, sino que siguió un
desarrollo empírico. El baile pasó por
muchas etapas, en algunos casos por un
tango de figuras exageradamente acrobáticas, sin concentración en la música y
sin tener en cuenta elegancia y el compás. En el plano musical siempre perma-

necieron los grandes maestros como
Horacio Salgán, Julián Plaza, Leopoldo
Federico, Osvaldo Berlingieri, Atilio
Stampone y otros, todos artistas sublimes, verdaderamente extraordinarios.
También siguieron existiendo bailarines
que se siguieron manteniendo fieles a la
tradición milonguera. Pero hubo mucha
gente en canto y en baile que desvirtuó
su esencia y se proyectaron sin tener en
cuenta para nada dicha tradición, inventando maneras de interpretación a partir
de ellos mismos. Creo que este aspecto
afortunadamente hoy está cambiando.
Veo un interés en trabajar más la raíz.

reponer pero nunca será como el primero. Fue fantástico gracias al nivel de sus figuras, quienes con su
unión dieron una inyección de poderío a nuestra música ciudadana.Todos los espectáculos de tango que se

¿Qué significó en su carrera?
Tango Argentino fue mi escuela de lujo, había empezado a bailar tango con Miguel Ángel Zotto muy poco
tiempo antes, venía de bailar danza contemporánea en
el Teatro San Martín. Me costó mucho la adaptación
porque era un baile muy diferente, bailar en tacos,
siguiendo a otro, pero fue una adaptación en el marco
de este show de primer nivel, estudiando con los mejores. Durante la gira Copes, Nieves,Virulazo y Elvira y
los Dinzel nos enseñaban. Eran los mejores modelos, le
copié absolutamente todo a María Nieves, es mi
modelo como bailarina, no podría haber habido una
educación mejor.

hose who, observing names and positions of the streets of Buenos Aires, try
to discover symbolic crossings, suggestive
presences or absences, size proportional to
the quality of the tribute, and other similar
relationships can set all their suspicions
aside. There is logic on the existence of a
street that is called San Martin on one side
and Bolívar on the other, but there is no
analogy if Rivadavia produces the change
of name. A corner exists where, as in the
times of the Revolution, Moreno and
Saavedra collide; but this is not a coded
message. It would be like seeking hidden
reasons in Beiró and Lope de Vega: neither
was the 1928 elected vice-president a
fanatic of Fuenteovejuna, nor had the
Spanish playwright who died in 1635 ever
voted radical. The scarce cryptograms of
the map of Buenos Aires encouraged these
myths; that Dorrego and Lavalle cross each
other, for example. Any cabdriver will confirm that they don’t come even remotely
close to each other, and that they remain as
distant as Felipe Pigna teaches us they
were. And with regard to length, the fact
that Curie is less than one block long while
Ramón Falcón sports almost sixty is just
regrettable ineptness.
The best verification that the length of the
streets is not always related to their names,
is found in tango: its best-loved main characters have scarce meters of memory in the
paving of the great city.

CARLOS GARDEL
The street Carlos Gardel was officially christened when in 1961 the Municipal Bulletin
11.725 published ordinance nº 18.252.
It was about renaming a small section of
the street Guardia Vieja, between
Anchorena and Jean Jaures. The election of
this section was not trivial: the area of
Abasto had been Gardel’s first stage and
his permanent frame of reference; it was
delimited by the Market and by the street
where, a few blocks away, stood the house
where he lived; finally, the fact that it is a
passage, a shortcut, conferred it a more
“tanguero” air.
It was (and still is) barely a hundred
meters long. A modest encounter, certainly,
that of the most important tango singer
with the nomenclature of Buenos Aires,
modest but in his neighborhood, as he
would have preferred.
The requests for a street named after
Carlos Gardel had begun in 1935. For example, poet Francisco Raimundo (“Chilo”), a
few weeks after the death of the singer wrote:
“In name of Art I ask, / as the most faithful
emissary / to this and that person in power /
that they don’t forget about you; / and that in
fairness / to your sacred memory / a commemorative street / they name faithfully after
you, / the street Carlos Gardel / as if recording your story…” Well: a quarter of a century later it became a reality. Later came a
small square (in 1973) and a subway station
(in December of 1984).
ELÍAS ALIPPI
The 175 bus characterizes itself by
almost never coming; a quality that increases exponentially on rainy days or when one
is very pressed to arrive, for example, at the
station of Urquiza. Years of traveling on this
line give one a certain resigned sympathy
for its delays, to which those ephemeral
conversations of the bus stop confer a
folksy character: “Have you been waiting for
a long time…?” This writer has traveled no
less than three decades in its cars; at this
point, everything or almost everything
could be forgiven. After all, chauffeurs and
passengers already are like family, and the
affectionate memory of the many palindrome tickets obtained on board still persists: eternal gratitude for so many illusions
in exchange for eighty cents.
Its route takes it along Avenida de los
Constituyentes to Manuel A. Prado Street,
where it turns seeking what used to be the
Grafa, today a supermarket. Then it goes
through a district of similar buildings and
narrow short streets with names of actors:
Sebastián Chiola, Elsa O'Connor, José Gola,
Caesar Ratti. One of them is Elías Alippi.
Besides actor, playwright and businessman, Alippi (1883-1942) was a great
tanguero. A first-rate dancer, he was also
the author of a few tangos; the most
famous one is La Payasa, recorded by
Ignacio Corsini in 1922. Its music is the
same one of Gran Hotel Victoria. Alippi
signed the lyrics of La Payasa with Carlos
Schaeffer Gallo, playwright ignored by the
Filcar guide (1).
EDUARDO AROLAS
The Eduardo Arolas passage ends across
from the Hospicio de las Mercedes, on what
used to be Barracas Street (today Dr.
Ramón Carrillo). The memory turned street
of one of the main tango composers, far
from being picturesque, is brief and almost
hidden; at its other end is the thick wall of
the South rails.
Close by, in a dingy small cafe near the
old Sola station, Arolas could be seen,
towards 1906, playing guitar. The bandoneon would arrive later.
ADRIÁN AND ALEJANDRA
Dancers Adrián Veredice and Alejandra
Hobert were in Buenos Aires in November
after a seven months tour through prestigious stages around the world: United
States, France, Germany, Greece, Italy,
Sweden, Turkey, Hungary, Australia,
Taiwan, Korea and Poland. In addition to
performing at milongas in El Beso and
Salón Canning, they have been rehearsing
for the show “Otango”.
OTANGO – THE ULTIMATE SHOW
Artemis, the company directed by Olivier
Tilkin, begins its new tour with its show
"Otango". In December they will appear in
Belgium and during March and April, in
Italy. The cast is comprised of dancers
Chistian Márquez and Virginia Gómez,
Paula Rubín and Mariano Galeano, Sabrina
Masso and Fernando Gracia, Claudio
González and Melina Brufman and Adrián
Veredice and Alejandra Hobert, the orchestra Tanguisimo and the voices of Jose Luis
Barreto and Claudia Pannone. Veredice
and Hobert are in charge of coordination
and group choreography, and Mona
Estecho, wardrobe.
SEEKING THE IDEAL WOMAN
Hernán Buenosayres, starring Hernán
Piquín and Miriam Coelho, and a team of
eleven dancers, an orchestra and a singer,
premiered at the Maipo Theater at the end
of November.
The musical tells about the problems of
an inhabitant of the great metropolis who
paradoxically seeks the Ideal Woman.
“Choreographers Margarita Fernández and
Laura Roatta submerge the main character
in a Buenos Aires Purgatory” the organizers
explained. The show also features wardrobe
designed by Francisco Ayala, scenery by
Griselda Martínez, and a live orchestra and
singer, with arrangements and musical
direction of Julián Vat based on music by
Julián Plaza, Astor Piazzolla and Osvaldo
Pugliese among other composers.

homonymous CD, recorded between the
months of August of 2005 and July of 2006.

problems is coordination. I am not referring
to the fine motor kind, you have invested
good bucks in both doubtful and prestigious teachers. I am talking about the coordination of our much-postponed encounter.
It seems to me, my dear, that you cannot
really understand how the game is played,
and that comes close to being a sin.
I am going to play my part, man that I am,
no doubt about it. You will see me with my
back straight and my neck stretched, a
slightly worried expression on my brow and
that manly look that I have practiced so
much during long morning shaves. I will
zero in on your eyes and then yes, a light
nod and a certain and feline subtlety in my

my marvelous ego and I will be risking a

I mean: if you know that I do not like very
fast and rhythmic orchestras, when they

into milonguero astigmatism, into "I look at
you but I do not see you". Find a cool tanda,
sort of middle of the road, something that

milonga, let’s proceed with caution.

run in your nylons or somebody stomping
right on your bunion (remember that nature
imitates art). We better wait until the dance
floor is a little bit emptier.
Besides, I have been observing you and
there are certain behaviors that you should
urgently change.
If there are fans in the room, tie your hair;
and if there aren’t any, tie it anyway, your
tresses get in my nose and I get allergies.
And be a bit more selective as to who you
dance with. Or didn’t you know that that guy
was going to give you more kicks in one set
than you would get from a defense player of
El Porvenir soccer team in an entire championship? And you expect me to ask you to
dance after that? No sweetie, that’s not how
it works...
Don’t hold the back of my neck, please, I
beg you: it makes me neurotic and besides,
it invites gossip. And on top of everything,
you want me to dance with you dressed like
that? Why? So that the guys become dehydrated and the women cross me off? Not
even if I were crazy, doll; what is in it for me
there? You need to wake up immediately...
Forget glitter forever. You leave the guys
as if they were coming from being branded
and, let’s agree, you look almost as elegant
as those who combine tango shoes with little short socks.

Cáceres, with an excellent end result. In
addition to the songs of the Argentine
musician, a renewed version of La casita
de Mis Viejos deserves a special mention.
FOR THE LOVE OF TANGO
Singer Mariana Domínguez appeared
during November at Café Homero. She
performed songs by many authors and of
diverse styles that are included in her first
CD, Buenos Aires, Amor y Tango, in addition to tangos, candombes, milongas and
waltzes. The singer, originally from Buenos
Aires, moved some years ago to
Necochea. She returned to bring her music
and hopes to repeat her visit soon.
NOVEMBER IN GUITARS
The last Friday of November, Bartolomé
Palermo presented his guitar group
Palermo 5, formed by Adrián Lacruz,
Leandro Nikitoff, Mariano Heller and
Nicolas Trono. The show took place at the
Café del Estaño and singer Hugo Araujo
and special guest Florencia Bernales joined
the group.
THE TANGOS OF CARACOL
On Sunday November 12, at The 36
Billares, Roberto “Caracol” Paviotti

charge of artistic and musical direction

Pablo Elgarte on piano, Patricio Cotella on
bass, Ana Serena Elgarte on flute.

In December, the Palais de Glace will
again be the setting for our national dance,
with the fourth edition of the Festival de
Tango Joven, which will close the cycle
started in the province of Mendoza. The
event is organized by the Secretaría de
Cultura, sponsored by Secretaría de
Turismo de la Nación and admission is free.
The festival proposes the fusion of tango
with new tendencies and diverse contemporary artistic expressions. “The idea of
Tango Joven arises from the need to bring
tango to those who think it is boring, sad or
out of date” the organizers said and they
added that “tango continues to speak of
our identity and continues to reflect our
way of thinking, of feeling and of relating to
others. This is valid for both older and
younger people, because tango lyrics
speak of things that happen to all of us”.
NO REST
After the success of the 1er. (first)
Certamen Pre Mundial de Tango Río Negro,
that took place some months ago in the
locality of Luís Beltrán, its organizers
announced that they will continue “working
on the second edition for next year because
the South needs a place like this, where
families of all social classes can enjoy this
new tango tourism and cultural proposal”.
CRAZY ABOUT TANGO
On Fridays and Saturdays during the
month of November, Soledad Villamil presented at Torquato Tasso a show of
waltzes, milongas camperas, chamarritas,
rancheras and tangos. The lead actress of
the Vulnerables and Locas de amor TV
series, after I, returned to the stage as a
singer with songs of Atahualpa Yupanqui,
Alfredo Zitarrosa, J. M. Aguilar, and the duo
Jiménez-Aieta, among other composers.
CÓNDOR DE FUEGO PRIZES
As it has happened for the last 19 years,
the Asociación Estampas y Memorias
awarded the Cóndor de Fuego Prizes 2006,
in a ceremony that took place in the Salón
Dorado of the La Plata Municipality. Among
the winners were La Plata singer Graciela
Siman, as well as artists from the rest of
the country. “The prizes are caresses to the
heart, like the applause of the audience in
each performance”, said Siman.

show gathered, at the heart of Abasto,
dancers Claudio González and Melina

It received the applause of the audience
and showed once again the value of selfdirected and professional work.
There were no props on the stage, which
was completely black. The outstanding talent of the dancers was all that colored that
deep space. The show was structured in
seven “episodes” that presented different

with the dancers sharing "that last tango,
the one that indicates the end of a couple"

UPHILL
In November, the trio formed by Pablo
Yanis on bandoneon, Mariano Gil on guitar
and Juan Fracchi on bass, presented their
CD, La Carroña, at the Abasto.
During the show, they performed the
song Pablo y El choclo written in 1900,
and music by Piazzolla and Rovira. They
also played current compositions, including some of their own. In each song, the
young musicians’ heartfelt and committed
performance reminded the audience of the
most solid performers of the genre.
VENTARRÓN ON TUESDAYS
During the month of November the
cycle, Music on Tuesdays, organized by
the direction of Music of the City of
Buenos Aires presented Quinteto
Ventarrón.
The group is comprised of Caesar
Angeleri, Roberto Calvo and Gustavo
Margulies, guitars; Néstor Basurto, large
guitar (guitarrón) and voice and Marcos
Ruffo, bass; they all have extensive experience in Argentine music as soloists and in
groups, as well as accompanying wellknown tango performers.
IN THE SERVICE OF TANGO
Every Thursday in November and
December, Velma Café presents Tango
Servicio Tararira, a proposal that congregates young interpreters who give form to
a show both amusing and heartfelt. Among
the members of the staff are Guillermo
Fernández, Claudio Galladou, “Chino”
Laborde, Luis Longhi, Federico Mizrahi,
Alfredo Piro and Carolina Pujal. Between
songs, the artists and the venue generate
an intimate atmosphere and surprise with
guest performers; the first one was
Horacio Fontova.
SHOWS
EPISODIOS CIFRADOS EN TANGO
“What a good idea it was to come to see
you!” reads one of the entries of the
musical role. From then on he cries and
continues crying during what the creators
of this show called Episodio Fraccionado o
construcción de un tanguero. where the
singer writhes in a bed, dressed in pajamas
and whispering his sorrows, in a role that
will be the guiding thread of each scene.
We will see him thus five more times, each
one better than the other.
After the introduction, it was clear that
the audience had entered a dark tunnel that
would carry it through various shades of
human relationships using tango as cultural expression. In Episodio I: La Despedida
and II: La Presa, Brufman and González
marvelously sketched the beat of En esta
tarde Gris and Verano Porteño. Historias de
Esquineros, Episodio III: Los Cautivos and
Episodio Final: La Humanidad followed. In
all of them the trio of artists managed to
transmit to the audience the flavor of heartfelt tango, of passion, pain and melancholy
that permeate Argentina’s popular music
and that obviously filled them with the
energy and talent that abound in Episodio
Cifrados en Tango.
Maybe this flavor, which is present in the
whole show, is what leaves the public with
a feeling of sadness upon coming to the
end. “In each one of us live together poetry, love, fury, magical understanding, conflict as well as the unexpected and the
absurd. A tango couple is a cell with all the
possible forms of life inside it, waiting to be

WORLD
TANGO IN TEXAS
In October, Argentine tango company
Estampas Porteñas offered a show in
Houston, Texas that was attended by more
than 6,000 people. During the event a
happy Carolina Soler, director and founder
of the company, received from the Institute
of Hispanic Culture a commemorative plate
in tribute to the artistic history of excellence of Estampas Porteñas .
Additionally, Bill White, Governor of
Texas, proclaimed October 14 Day of
Estampas Porteñas in Houston. The company includes five dance couples, a singer
and a five-member orchestra. It has an
extensive repertoire that goes from Gardel
and Lepera to Piazzolla, with which it captivated a city where country music is the one
played by most local radio stations.
GRAND AND GALLANT ON TOUR
Dancers Mayra Gallant and Silvio Grand
starred for the second time in the musical
Dreams of Tango, in the National Musical
Theater, one of the most important venues in
the city of Saint Petersburg. After the show,
where eight Russian dancers participated,
the Argentine dance couple emphasized that
“this is the first musical tango co-production
produced by Russians and directed by
Argentines; the presence of singers Alexei
Barbolin and Julia Zueva and an orchestra of
26 Russian musicians, members of the permanent cast of the National Musical Theater
and directed by Andrew Alexeiev, deserves a
special mention”.
Dreams of Tango presented several
musical numbers and the story of a young
Russian woman who, when going through
the mementos of her grandparents discovers that they danced tango, which awakens
in her the same passion.
The dance couple has been in this city
twice before, as teachers and artistic coordinators of the touring cast of the company
Esquina Carlos Gardel.
THIRD BELGRADE TANGO FESTIVAL
Aleksadar Nikolic and Beltango Quintet
organized the Third Belgrade Tango Festival
that took place in the capital of Serbia during the month of September. The local and
visiting tango enthusiasts were very satisfied during each of the shows that brought
the national music of Argentina to those
latitudes.
During the three days that the festival
lasted people enjoyed workshops during
the day and milongas at night. The Festival
closed with an open-air milonga at the
Repuburic Trg, in the center of Belgrade,
attended by tango fans and citizens who
strolled through the place.
