Give Your Air Conditioner A Break
Give Your Air Conditioner A Break —
And Get A Break On Your ComEd Bills.
It’s easy to sign up — and save up to $40.
How easy is it to save on your summer electric bills? Just sign up for Smart
Ideas Central Air Conditioning Cycling, and you’ll receive a total of $20 or $40
in credits on your summer electric bills.
When you participate, we will:
q I nstall a switch that allows us to remotely control the compressor on
your air conditioner.
q C
ycle your A/C compressor off and on when our system is nearing capacity
— so it uses less power, allowing us to manage electric demand more
efficiently and reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases.
During cycling, your fan stays on, circulating already cool air and keeping
your home comfortable. In fact, participants report very little difference in
the comfort level of their homes.
Frequently Asked Questions.
Q: Will the switch harm my air conditioner?
A: N
o — each switch is tested before installation. Use of the switches has
been approved by top air conditioner manufacturers including Carrier,
York, Lennox and Trane and will not affect the warranty of your unit.
Join The Growing Movement To Save
Money, Energy And The Environment.
Q: I have more than one central A/C unit, can I get more credits?
A: N
o. Because air conditioner efficiency varies based on a number of factors,
we can only offer a $5 or $10 credit per household each summer month.
Q: Will ComEd maintain the switch to ensure it operates correctly?
A: Y es, ComEd will inspect the control switch periodically. If the control
switch becomes disconnected or you install a new unit, you will need to
contact us to reconnect it.
Q: How often will ComEd cycle?
A: The maximum number of days cycling could occur is limited to 20 for the
entire summer, or 120 hours.
Q: Will ComEd contact me prior to cycling?
A: N
o — however you can call 1-888-806-2273 to find out if we’re cycling,
as well as for general program information and service inquiries.
Q: How long does it take before the switch is installed?
A: U
sually, four to six weeks after you join.
