The director will be responsible for the development, coordination and execution of programs for catechesis, sacramental preparation, justice, service, liturgical participation, retreats, etc. between parish and school youth. A qualified applicant would have a bachelor degree and Youth Ministry Certification (if incomplete, degree and certification must be completed within 6 months), experience working with middle school and high school youth. Working knowledge of Catholic Social teaching and a desire to nurture young people to grow as Jesus’ disciples is a must. Bilingual (English/Spanish) would be an advantage but not required. Elementary Faith Formation Classes Begin Next Sunday September 8 and Wednesday, September 11 The first class is for the children and their parents – Get to know the catechists and learn more about what your child will be learning this year. Parents don't drop off and run; your presence is important! Special Olympics – Aquatics: September 6/7 Our Council is participating with Councils from the entire Dallas Diocese in supporting the Special Olympics Aquatics held on September 6/7 at the Frisco ISD Natatorium. All parishioners are invited to attend and support these athletes. Class rosters will be posted in the hallway of the school building. If you did not hear from our office then your child was placed in the session that was selected as first choice. Flags and Electronics Recycling for Special Olympics Unserviceable flags continue to be collected in the flag box which is now located inside the Usher’s Room at the rear of the old Narthex. If you are not familiar with the location of the Usher’s Room, please ask an usher for directions. Used cell phones, inkjet cartridges, digital cameras, camcorders, and hand held electronic games can also be placed in this box. The flags will be disposed of in a proper manner. All electronic equipment will be recycled by an environmentally responsible company and the proceeds from the recycling will be donated to Special Olympics. We have postponed registration as of August 29. We will start taking registrations again on September 16. We are still in need of catechists, co‐catechists, teen helpers and office staff at all sessions. St. Mark Faith Formation is only possible with the ‘Co‐workers in the Vineyard of the Lord.’ Special Note: If you see a flag on a business establishment that is in need of replacement, please talk with the store manager, thank him for flying the Stars and Stripes, and ask that the unserviceable flag be replaced and given to you. You should then place the flag into the flag box identified above. The flag is the symbol of our nation and it is important that it be displayed and maintained properly. The needs of our community continue to grow and expand so the need for Client Advocates (making home visits) is always in great demand. You will be assisting another advocate and are never expected to work alone. We are in need of a Webmaster to update and expand our web page so it has meaningful content for our clients. Also, we need assistance with our SVdP Thrift initiative. We have a need to compile available jobs in the Plano area and identify shared apartment locations for those singles on a limited income. Homelessness is a serious problem in Plano and it is growing! St. Mark Youth Group A ministry for young people in Grades 6‐12 and for young adults and parents who enjoy working with teens and preteens. High School Youth Group meets on Tuesday nights at the Youth House from 7‐9PM and comprises praise and worship, games, art projects, topical lessons, prayer experiences and more. Middle School Youth Group has monthly social and spiritual activities. Both age groups participate in service projects like Service Saturday, Community Carnival and Souper Bowl of Caring. The Youth Group members also attend World Youth Day Six Flags and the Dallas Catholic Youth Conference. Sunday at 6PM is the Spirit Mass where youth and young adults are encouraged to partici‐ pate as ushers, lectors, choir members and communion minis‐ ters, and greeters. During the summer, High School Youth Group plays softball with other youth groups while the Middle School Youth Group plays soccer. Save the Date...to Save a Life!
