April 12, 2015 - Second Sunday of Easter - Sunday of Divine Mercy
Dear Parish Family,
This Weekend we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, previously called the Second
Sunday after Easter. St. Pope John Paul II renamed the Sunday immediately after
Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday. He died on the Eve of DMS and he was Canonized
a Saint on DMS.
The devotion to the Divine Mercy arose from allocutions given to St. Faustina Kowalska. She was born in 1905 in
Lodz, Poland the 3rd of 10 children. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy just shy of
her 20th birthday. She wrote down her conversations with Jesus in her Diary, some 400 pages. She died of Tuberculosis in 1938. St. Pope John Paul II canonized her in the Year of the Great Jubilee 2000 declaring her the first
saint of the New Millennium and thus ushering in what his successors have declared an “Age of Mercy”. Devotion
to God’s Divine Mercy is not new; it has always been to greater or lesser degree present in the Church through the
ages and central to Christian belief. St. Faustina however was the instrument of its apotheosis, so clearly visible in
the life and teaching of the Successor of St. Peter, Pope Francis, whose central message continues to be God’s Divine Mercy.
The Eternal Word Television gives us a concise explanation of the devotion:
The message of mercy is that God loves us — all of us — no matter how great our sins. He wants us to recognize
that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow
through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. It is a message we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC.
A — Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking
Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world.
B — Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend
love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us.
C — Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust.
The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive.
This last of the ABC’s can be found in the writing of St. Faustina who urged all who receive this message to pray
daily, “Jesus, I trust in You!”
The devotion itself is called ‘The Divine Mercy Chaplet’ traditionally prayed on the beads of the Rosary beginning
with the Apostles Creed. Using a Rosary, on each of the ‘Hail Mary’ beads pray, “For the Sake of His Sorrowful
Passion have Mercy on us and on the whole world”. On the ‘Our Father’ beads you pray, “Eternal Father, I offer
you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for
our sins and those of the whole world.”
On this Sunday we recall and commit ourselves to the reception of God’s Mercy in our lives while at the same time
committing ourselves to being instruments of God’s Mercy in the World. The Divine Mercy requires both receptivity and action.
“For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion have Mercy on us and on the whole World. JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU!”
Peace and Good – Fr. Bambrick

Calling all RCIA Old Timers! If you have gone through the RCIA process or Adult Confirmation Classes
at St. Al's or any other Catholic parish, we would like to invite you to a monthly gathering of "Keeping
Current" which meets every 3rd Sunday of the month at 9:30 a.m. in the Parish Office. We'll share our
faith, talk about our experiences since initiation, and engage in continued education in the faith. Our
next session will be Sunday, April 19. There is no need to RSVP, but if you'd like to, or like more info,
please contact Jen.
Faith Sharing Group - The Merton Faith Sharing group meets each Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the Parish
Office. All are welcome. If you would you like to be a member of this faith sharing group please call
Sister Eileen at the Parish Office on ext. 206.
God is Calling You!!!!! God calls each of us into a deeper relationship each day. If you are not Catholic,
or if you are a Catholic who has not received all of your Sacraments, come check out the RCIA (Rite of
Christian Initiation of Adults). See if full participation in the Church is what God is calling you to. Most
Tuesday nights, from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Parish Office, we have informal sessions where you can
come, ask questions and find out if this is right for you. Our next class will be on Tuesday, April 14 at
7:00 p.m. There is no commitment when you come to Inquiry, but if you want to pursue initiation, we’ll
tell you what steps need to be taken. Join us for Inquiry, check the parish website or call Deacon Al in the
Parish Office at 732-370-0500 ext. 208 for information.
Attention Catholics Who Are Not Confirmed… If you are an adult and have not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation, this is the class for you. We meet most Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. (and once a month on the first Tuesday, at
7:00 p.m.). Our next meeting date will be Tuesday, April 14 at 8:00 p.m. The class is conversational, adult learning
with a little bit of required reading. You will learn A LOT about the Bible, your faith and yourself. For more information please contact Deacon Al in the Parish Office at 732-370-0500 ext. 208.
Breaking Open the Word...At Church! For years, now, Sr. Eileen and Jen have been offering reflection
questions on the Sunday readings for families to share at home. After the 10:30 a.m. Mass, Jen offers
an opportunity to Break Open the Word at Church. Anyone who would like to is welcome to join Jen
in the Cafeteria for a quick exegesis (explanation of the readings) and some questions for faith sharing. The whole thing lasts approximately 30 minutes. We will provide questions for all age groups.
You can sit with your family, grab a group of friends, or meet new people to share with. For more information, contact Jen at the Parish Office. No need to register for this--it will be pretty informal. Just come on by, and if you want
to, bring a Bible! Please Note: Our next date is Sunday, April 19.
Protecting God's Children - Making the Church a safe environment for all, particularly children and atrisk adults, is a major priority of the administration and staff of Saint Aloysius Church. Please take a look
at the posters and "Safe Environment & Standards of Conduct Policy" that are posted on the bulletin
board in the Gathering Space of the Church. You may also see what we have in place by clicking the banner on our parish website, or typing in: www.saintaloysiusonline.org/protecting-children. If you have any
questions or would like to learn more about how to make our church, homes and community safer, please

reports any allegations of sexual abuse to the appropriate law enforcement agencies. Anyone with an allegation is
also encouraged to provide that information to local law enforcement authorities.

April 12, 2015 - Second Sunday of Easter - Sunday of Divine Mercy
Breaking Open the Word at Home by Jen Schlameuss-Perry
We all know the story of Jesus’ appearance to the Apostles while Thomas was out and his
subsequent doubting. It’s a great story that we can all relate to. Poor Thomas is called
out for his doubting, but that’s really the worst thing that happens. Think of Jesus’ response to him—it’s not kicking him out, or shaming him or anything—Jesus offers him proof. He gives Thomas
what he needs to believe. Really, if you look at the story closer, it begins with the rest of the Apostles hiding in the
upper room. They weren’t so faith-filled that they were able to go preach the Gospel yet, or even walk freely
throughout the town without worrying that they would be arrested themselves. Like Thomas, they hadn’t received
the Holy Spirit yet, and weren’t ready.
Kids: When Thomas needed help understanding that Jesus was Resurrected, Jesus gave him the help. How do
you feel when you need help understanding something and you receive that help kindly?
Teens and Adults: Think of times when you misunderstood something or needed help learning—remember one
time when someone was kind and helpful, and remember one when you were made to feel like a fool. How do you
respond to people who don’t know something, or misunderstand? Are you kind? Do you make them feel like a
fool? How would you like to respond in the future?
