PASTOR'S NOTES
Welcome to Friar Fest 2012!!!!
On behalf of St. Francis Church, welcome
to our celebration!!! This weekend gives us an
opportunity to come
together as a parish
community to celebrate,
enjoy each other’s company, and honor our
patron, St. Francis of
Assisi.
For the past
several months, our
Festival Committee has
been working tirelessly
to make sure everything is ready for this weekend. It promises to be a wonderful event full of
fun!
This year, in addition to the festival itself,
we have added “Friar Feast Taste” which will
give everyone a chance on Friday night to have
a small taste of the great food our community
has to offer. “Friar Feast Taste” is also a good
time to come meet other parishioners you might
see regularly at a Sunday mass but don’t know
personally.
I hope that you enjoy our festival and if
you see me around, please stop and let me
know how you are enjoying it.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS
Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today’s readings from the Book of Genesis and St. Mark’s Gospel are linked by the common theme of sacred marriage. In the
Gospel, Jesus, referring to Genesis, proclaims, God made them
male and female. For this reason, a man shall leave his father
and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become
one flesh. It is obvious from these Scripture passages that God’s
gift of marriage is a blessing between one man and one woman.
This is the Church’s teaching on Christian marriage, which
faithful stewards embrace. They understand how the Sacrament
of Matrimony strengthens husband and wife to love and serve
the Lord and one another.
Cultivating Our Faith
27th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Sunday is our big day in which we have
many different activities, from the blessing of the
animals, our dog show, and of course our Mega
Draw!!! Sunday will also provide an opportunity
to sample a great variety of food while you’re
enjoying the many forms of festival entertainment, including our inflatable game zone!
Whether it be Vietnamese food, Filipino food,
Mexican food or some old-fashioned burgers and
hot dogs, I can assure you that everything will
be excellent.

I would also like to take an opportunity to
thank everyone who has worked so hard to
make this weekend happen. From the committee members to the many volunteers who have
dedicated a great numbers of hours to make our
weekend a successful one, you are all appreciated!!! Without the work of so many people,
none of this would be possible. Thank you all
for your dedication to our community.

Vista City Council Forum
Be a Faithful Citizen and join us for a Vista City
Council Candidates Forum on Monday evening October 15th at 6:30 pm in Fr. Ullman Hall. As a community of faith, we know that we are called to protect
and respond to the needs of families in crisis in our
city. We believe that getting to know the City Council
Candidates will help us to determine which individuals will best respond to the needs of the families in
our parish. In our area, our Parish Social Ministry,
along with the San Diego Organizing Project (SDOP)
and other churches, have been planning this and
other events as a part of the “You Matter—2012” campaign which is a non-partisan get out the vote effort.
We will start our precint walking and asking people
to pledge to vote on Saturday, October 20th at 9:00
am and will be meeting on the church patio. For

Lời Chúa phán với các thánh tông đồ năm xưa rằng: “Nước Trời đang
đến gần, hoặc Nước Trời đang ở trong tầm tay” (Mt 10:7). Lời đó Chúa
phán thế nào, thì ngày nay Chúa cũng phán với mỗi người chúng ta như
vậy. Nước Trời đang ở trong tầm tay của mỗi người Kitô hữu, nghĩa là mỗi
chúng ta đều có thể với tới được nếu như chúng ta biết cách thức thể hiện
lời đó.
Chúa khuyên chúng ta cần thống hối, ăn chay, cầu nguyện và bố thí. Cụ
thể hơn, Chúa có lần hiện đến với thánh Catherine thành Siena và nói cho
thánh nữ biết rằng: “Thầy muốn con bay lên trời bằng đôi cánh, nếu con chỉ
ăn chay, hãm mình, tận hiến và cầu nguyện trong căn phòng chật chội này
mãi thì con vẫn chỉ có một cánh mà thôi. Thầy muốn con phải ra ngoài hòa
mình với thế gian, thì con mới có thêm được cánh nữa, và con mới có thể
bay bổng lên Nước Trời của Thầy được “ (The Way of the Mystics, tr. 87).
Ngoài thời giờ ăn chay, hãm mình, và cầu nguyện, thánh nữ Catherine
đã vâng theo lời Chúa lao mình vào công tác tình nguyện; phục vụ chăm
sóc bệnh nhân trầm trọng nhất tại một bệnh viện trong vùng, đúng theo tinh
thần mến Chúa, yêu người.

¡BIENVENIDOS AL FESTIVAL
DEL FRAILE 2012!!!!
En nombre de la Parroquia de San Francisco de
Asís ¡Bienvenidos a nuestra Celebración!!! Este fin de
semana se nos da la oportunidad de reunirnos juntos
como una comunidad parroquial para celebrar, para divertirnos unos con otros en honor de nuestro patrón San
Francisco de Asís. Desde hace varios meses nuestro Comité Parroquial del Festival ha estado trabajando, sin
descanso, para asegurar que cada detalle esté listo para
este fin de semana. ¡Promete ser un evento maravilloso y
lleno de diversión!
Este año, como parte del Festival, se ha añadido
“El Sabor del Festival del Fraile” para que todos tengan la
oportunidad, el viernes por la noche, de saborear en menor escala la maravillosa comida que se ofrece en nuestra
ciudad. “El Sabor del Festival del Fraile” es, también, la
mejor oportunidad para conocer y hablar con otros feligreses que ustedes posiblemente han visto en las Misas
dominicales pero que no han tenido la experiencia de
conocerlos personalmente.
El domingo, es el día grande, en el que tendremos diferentes actividades, desde la bendición de los
animales, el desfile de perros, y por su puesto tendremos
¡nuestra Gran Rifa!!!! También, el domingo tendremos la
oportunidad de probar una variedad de alimentos mientras gozamos de un amplio programa de entretenimiento
en vivo: comida Vietnamés, comida Filipina, comida
Mexicana y comida Americana como Hamburguesas y
Hot Dogs. Y no podemos dejar de mencionar que tendremos ¡una amplia zona de brincolines! Les aseguro que
todo será excelente.
Deseo aprovechar la oportunidad para agradecer a cada una de las personas que han trabajado, muy
fuerte, para que este fin de semana se convierta en una
realidad. A los miembros del Comité organizador y a los
innumerables voluntarios que han dedicado incontables
horas para que nuestro fin de semana sea un éxito y sea
inolvidable, ¡a todos, mi profundo aprecio y reconocimiento! Sin el trabajo de tanta gente, nada de esto
hubiera sido posible. ¡Muchas gracias a todos por su entrega al beneficio de nuestra comunidad parroquial!

LIBERTAD RELIGIOSA
Hoy en los Estados Unidos, la libertad religiosa de cada persona está siendo atacada. El 20 de enero del 2012, el Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos anunció que casi todos
los planes de salud deberán cubrir medicamentos y procedimientos como anticonceptivos, abortivos o esterilización aunque estos violen la libertad de conciencia de quienes lo ofrecen, patrocinen o compren el plan. Ya que si no lo hicieran
estarán sujetos a multas considerables. El Obispo Cirilo Flores
comenta, “Hoy, repetimos una y otra vez que la libertad religiosa no es un favor del gobierno. La libertad religiosa no es
un regalo de los políticos ni de burócratas del gobierno. La
libertad religiosa es un derecho dado por Dios.” Tom
Grenchick, Director Ejecutivo del Secretariado de Actividades
Pro-Vida del USCCB, en un artículo sobre el mandato del HHS
afirma, “Defender el derecho de conciencia tiene un alto
costo; pero el costo de no hacerlo es incalculable.”

BANDA TOM BOOTH
Únanse a nosotros en una tarde especial de
Palabra y Adoración con Tom Booth el viernes 12 de octubre a
las 7pm en nuestra Iglesia. Tom tiene mas de 24 años sirviendo
en varios ministerios: Ministerios parroquiales: música, liturgia
y pastoral juvenil; Tom sigue sirviendo al cuerpo de Cristo dando conciertos, retiros y misiones, y ha estado en varios conciertos con John Michael Talbot y otros.
Una donación voluntaria se pedirá a la entrada del concierto.
