Last Sunday, we ended the Easter Season with the solemn feast of Pentecost. As we reenter the
season of Ordinary Time, the Church continues its joyous celebration with feasts that are
anything but ordinary. In the two weeks following Pentecost, the first Sunday focuses on the
Mystery of the Most Holy Trinity and the second Sunday focuses on the Eucharist, as we
celebrate Corpus Christi Sunday. This week, we celebrate Holy Trinity Sunday, and we take
some time to reflect and pray upon the most Holy Trinity.
To help us reflect on the mystery
of the Trinity, I have selected a
beautiful image entitled,
“Adoration of the Holy
Trinity,” (1647-1649), painted by Johann Heinrich
Schonfeld. Painted high atop in glorious golden
yellow, from left to right, is God the Son, Jesus, God
the Holy Spirit, and God the Father. All light
emerges and emanates from the Trinity. The Trinity
is surrounded by angels, with the exception of the
Blessed Mother, who is seen next to Jesus. Just
below the Trinity, angels hold up the world,
symbolizing all of creation. Below the world, in
creation, we see the saints adoring the Trinity. “The
faith of all Christians rests on the Trinity. The
mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central
mystery of Christian faith and life. It is the mystery
of God in himself. It is therefore the source of all the
other mysteries of faith, the light that enlightens
them” (CCC 232, 234).
In Christianity, we use the word "trinity" to
describe the belief that the one God of the universe is
comprised of three persons: the God the Father, the
Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. It has been the
conviction of Christians throughout the centuries that
this is what the Bible teaches. The word "trinity"
comes from the Latin word trinitas, meaning "three."
The word "trinity" doesn't appear in the Bible; rather,
it is a theological label meant to summarize the
passages of the Bible, which teach that the Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit are each fully God.
The early church father Tertullian who wrote
in Latin, is believed to have first used the term trinity
to describe the God of the Bible. Tertullian, son of a
Roman centurion from North Africa, was born
around 160A.D. He received a good education in
literature and rhetoric and probably practiced law for
a while before being converted to Christianity around the year 197A.D. It is the Church Father St. Jerome who
tells us that Tertullian became a priest, but there are some indications that he may have remained a layman. What
is clear is that eloquent as he was in both Greek and Latin, Tertullian quickly after his conversion set himself to
defending the Catholic faith against the pagans as well as heretical Christians. In so doing coined some of the key
theological terms and phrases of the Christian theological tradition. It is in Tertullian's writings that we first find
the Latin word "trinity" to describe the relationship between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, whom he taught were
"one God in three persons." This remains a classic Trinitarian formula to this day, and it is the mystery that we
stop and reflect upon today.
Next weekend, we will have our Corpus Christi procession following the 12:30 Mass. All are welcome to
attend. Due to the carnival, our procession to four altars will be confined to the southern part of the parish grounds.
Please come out, support, and enjoy our parish carnival this week. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year.

So Long, Farewell Class of 2015
It is very difficult to believe, but our school year is
nearly at an end. Overall, the 2014-2015 school year was
a good one. We saw our Parent Club become more active
in supporting our school, and trying new things. Next year
we hope to continue that, but also focus on the networking
of parents while continuing to look for family oriented
activities.
With the end of the school year, we say farewell to
class of 2015. They leave the ranks of our student body
and join the very proud heritage of St. Joseph School
alum. Our Graduation ceremony was held Wednesday
evening May 27th.

This past week was the last week of school for our three
and four year old preschoolers and kindergarten children.
Both, our end of the year preschool program, and our
Kindergarten Promotion Ceremony took place on Friday,
May 29th in Centennial Hall. The last day for children in
1st through 7th grade is Wednesday, June 3. We will
celebrate our end of the school year Mass at 8:30 a.m.
Registration – Our open enrollment continues. Our
preschool program is quickly filling – if you are interested
in more information about our preschool or St. Joseph
School in general, please call or stop by the school office.
I would enjoy speaking to you and giving you a tour of our
school.

El domingo pasado terminó el tiempo de Pascua con la solemnidad de Pentecostés. A medida que vuelve
introducir la temporada de Tiempo Ordinario la Iglesia continúa su alegre celebración con fiestas que son
cualquier cosa menos ordinaria. En las dos siguientes semanas despues de Pentecostés, el primer domingo
se centra en el misterio de la Santísima Trinidad y el segundo domingo se centra en la Eucaristía, al
celebrar el domingo de Corpus Christi. Esta semana celebramos el domingo de la Santísima Trinidad y
nos tomamos un tiempo para reflexionar y orar sobre la Santa Trinidad.

Trinidad, los ángeles sostienen el mundo, que simboliza
toda la creación. Observe debajo del mundo, en la
creación, los santos adoran la Trinidad. "La fe de todos los
cristianos se apoya en la Trinidad. El misterio de la
Santísima Trinidad es el misterio central de la fe y la vida

W minioną niedzielę oficjalnie zakończyliśmy okres wielkanocny, celebrując Święto Zesłania Ducha
Świętego. Kolejne dwie niedziele w rozpoczynającym się teraz Czasie Zwykłym wyznaczają
zupełnie NIE-zwykłe uroczystości. Dzisiaj skupiamy się na Trójcy Przenajświętszej, a za tydzień –
na Eucharystii.
Widzicie tu piękny obraz pędzla Johanna Heinricha Schonfelda, pod tytułem: „Adoracja
Trójcy Świętej” (1647-1649). Na samej górze, na wspaniałym złotym tle, widzimy od lewej do
prawej: Jezusa Syna Bożego, BogaDucha Świętego i Boga Ojca. Z tych
trzech postaci emanuje całe światło
na obrazie. Trójcę otaczają
aniołowie, a przy Jezusie stoi Błogosławiona Matka
Maryja. Tuż pod Trójcą znajdują się aniołowie,
trzymający na ramionach ziemię i wszystkie jej
stworzenia. Z kolei pod Stworzeniem widzimy świętych
adorujących Trójcę Świętą. „Wiara wszystkich
chrześcijan opiera się na Trójcy Świętej. Tajemnica
Trójcy Świętej stanowi centrum wiary i życia
chrześcijańskiego. Jest tajemnicą Boga w sobie samym,
a więc źródłem wszystkich innych tajemnic wiary oraz
światłem, które je oświeca” (Katechizm Kościoła
Katolickiego #232; #234).
W chrześcijaństwie, słowo „trójca” opisuje
przekonanie, iż Jedyny Bóg wszechświata składa się z
Trzech Osób: Boga Ojca, Jezusa Chrystusa Syna
Bożego, oraz Ducha Świętego. Chrześcijanie od wieków
wierzą, iż tego właśnie uczy Biblia. Słowo „trójca”
pochodzi od łacińskiego trinitas, oznaczającego po
prostu „trzy”. Owe słowo nie pojawia się w Piśmie
Świętym. Jest to raczej określenie teologiczne, łączące
te fragmenty Biblii, mówiące, że Bóg Ojciec, Syn Boży
i Duch Święty są w pełni jednym i tym samym Bogiem.
Uważa się, iż pierwszym, który użył słowa
„trójca” do opisania biblijnego Boga, był Tertullian
– urodzony około 160 roku naszej ery łaciński
teolog z Afryki Północnej. Początkowo studiował
prawo, grekę, łacinę, literaturę i retorykę.
Św. Hieronim pisze, że Tertulian przyjął święcenia
kapłańskie. Istnieją wszakże przesłanki świadczące
o tym, iż pozostał w stanie świeckim, a nawet
założył rodzinę. Po nawróceniu na chrześcijaństwo
w roku 197, Tertulian stał się najgorliwszym w
owym czasie apologetą Kościoła. Bronił Jego nauk
przed wpływami pogańskimi, a także herezją
niektórych chrześcijan. To właśnie jemu przypisuje się autorstwo kilku kluczowych pojęć, do dzisiaj
funkcjonujących w naszej tradycji teologicznej – na przykład wzmiankę o Trójcy Świętej: „Jeden Bóg w
Trzech Osobach”.
W przyszły weekend, po nabożeństwie o 12:30 po południu, ruszy parafialna procesja w Uroczystość Bożego
Ciała. Serdecznie wszystkich zapraszamy. Ze względu na odbywający się w tym samym czasie karnawał, procesja do
czterech ołtarzy będzie ograniczona jedynie do południowej części parafii. Przyjdźcie w tym tygodniu wesprzeć nasz
karnawał i korzystajcie z jego atrakcji. Karnawał jest największą i najważniejszą w roku zbiórką funduszy dla Parafii św.
Józefa. Pomódlcie się proszę w intencji wszystkich strażaków i policjantów, którzy codziennie narażają dla nas swoje
życie. Święta Maryjo Rozwiązująca Węzły, miej nas zawsze w Swej matczynej opiece. Święty Józefie, módl się za
nami.

Afterwards, the group will have lunch at
the Tortise Club.
Then it’s on to Chicago’s Oriental
Theatre for a guided tour of this
legendary motion picture palace.
The bus leaves at 8:45 a.m. and returns
at 3:30 p.m. to the Foran Funeral Home
parking lot, 7300 W. Archer Ave.,
Summit. The cost is $77 per person,
which includes the tour and lunch.
