Time to get running with Girls on the Run at (Whitfield Elementary) What is Girls on the Run (GOTR)? Girls on the Run® is a life-changing, character development and prevention program being offered to girls in grades 3 through 8. The program creatively integrates running/walking into a 12-week curriculum that includes lessons on self- esteem, peer pressure, gossiping, bullying, healthy eating, working as part of a team, and giving back to the community. The program culminates in a 5K (3.1 miles) run/walk event. When and where? The Girls On The Run program is delivered by trained, volunteer coaches and will meet at: Place: (gym lobby) Days: (Tuesday) and (Thursday) Time: (3:30) to (5:00) The 12-week program begins the week of February 15, 2016 and ends with the girls’ participation in the GOTR 5K on Sunday May 22, 2016. What is the cost? The fee per girl to participate in the program is $150; however, financial assistance will be provided to any girl unable to pay the full fee. Our fee helps to cover the costs we incur to run the program such as coach training, including CPR/First Aid training, curriculum and lesson materials. Each girl will receive a program t-shirt, a 5K t-shirt, a 5K finishers medal, free 5K registration and a lifetime of confidence and the power to walk tall! Girls on the Run® es un programa preventivo y transformador, que desarrolla el carácter en la niñas de 8 a 13 años de edad. El programa integra creativamente carreras y caminatas en un currículo de 12 semanas que incluye lecciones acerca de autoestima, presión de grupo, chismes, intimidación, hábitos alimenticios saludables, trabajando en equipo y como ayudar y apoyar a la comunidad. El programa culmina con un evento no-competitivo de correr o caminar 5K (3.1 millas). ¿Dónde y cuando? El programa GOTR llega a ustedes a través de voluntarios entrenados, que se reunirán en la escuela.
