Dates set for NOLAN 2013 in Oslo – Latin America: challenging frontiers
The 7th conference of the Nordic Latin American Research Network (NOLAN) will take place in Oslo
on 28 – 29 November 2013. NorLARNet will be the organizer of the conference. More information
and call for papers/proposals will follow.
Latin America: challenging frontiers: Social, cultural, economic, political and natural phenomena in
Latin America are increasingly challenging established frontiers. They cross national borders, but also
a number of other physical, cultural and other frontiers. Studying these realities in turn requires
concepts and approaches that transcend disciplinary boundaries. In this conference we will contribute
to shed light on the complex processes of transformation ongoing in the region, their background,
multiple expressions, and implications.

Call for applications: CAPES-SIU Programme for Brazil-Norway Cooperation
Norwegian institutions of higher education and research are invited to apply for funds for joint
cooperation projects between higher education and research institutions in Brazil and Norway.

Scholarship programmes for Brazilian students
As part of the comprehensive exchange programme Science without Borders, Brazil will offer up to
100 Brazilian students at Bachelor and Master level to study at educational institutions in Norway
during the academic year 2013-2014. The subjects covered by Science without Borders are mainly
within the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

Meeting with Guatemalan priest and human rights activist
The Catholic priest Arija García received the human rights award Orden Juan Gerardi in 2011.
Among the many issues he has been engaged in, are the conflicts related to the Canadian Mining
Company Goldcorp’s operations. The meeting is organized by The Norwegian Solidarity Committee
for Latin America (LAG).

La séptima conferencia del Nordic Latin American Research Network (NOLAN) se celebrará en Oslo
los días 28 y 29 de noviembre de 2013. NorLARNet será el organizador de la conferencia. Más
información y convocatoria serán anunciadas en este boletín.
Latin America: challenging frontiers: Fenómenos sociales, culturales, económicos, políticos y
naturales en América Latina desafían cada vez más las fronteras establecidas. Cruzan las fronteras
nacionales, pero también una serie de otras fronteras físicas, culturales y de otra índole. El estudio de
estas realidades, a su vez requiere de conceptos y enfoques que trasciendan las fronteras disciplinarias.
En esta conferencia se pretende contribuir a arrojar luz sobre los complejos procesos de
transformación en desarrollo en la región, sus antecedentes, expresiones múltiples, y sus
implicaciones.

En el marco del amplio programa de intercambio Ciencia sin Fronteras, Brasil ofrecerá a hasta 100

educativos de Noruega durante el año académico 2013-2014. Los temas incluidos en Ciencia sin
Fronteras son principalmente del área de STEM (ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas).
