The 2011 harvest in Ribera del Duero was earlier than normal. The vines began their cycle
this year promptly. The vines slowly compensated for being phenologically advanced,
while the start of harvesting was brought forward largely due to the intense heat recorded
during ripening.
The Wine
Evidence of the care and attention Matarromera devotes to aging in barrels and bottles.
The Tempranillo grape from which it is made is pampered from the moment it emerges
on the vine until it reaches the bodega. The stylish potency of Matarromera Reserva 2011
in the mouth is obtained during alcoholic fermentation using the délestage technique.
Matarromera Reserva 2011 is aged in these natural conditions in 225-litre barrels of
American oak from Missouri, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Minnesota. These new barrels
are fine-grained and medium-charred with a capacity of 225 litres. A complex, silky and
very stylish red wine. Made entirely using Tempranillo grapes and aged for 18 months in
American and French oak barrels. Scents of black and red fruit predominate in harmony
with a multitude of the aromas from aging; spices, black pepper, minerals, liquorice,
lactones and pipe tobacco with a background of dark chocolate. Very deep chromatically,
with an excellent dark cardinal-red tone. Its stylish structure of sweet tannins lends body
and refinement; a multitude of well-linked aromas with average acidity. Long finish,
harmonious, elegant and enduring in the mouth.
