Capital Campaign
Thank you to everyone who participated in the
International Food and Wine Tasting to benefit
the Building for our Future campaign. We are
pleased to report that the event raised more
than $17,000 for the patio and restroom project!
Even if you were unable to attend the event, it’s
not too late support the project.
Create a lasting legacy at Holy Rosary Church
by purchasing a personalized engraved
brick for the newly renovated patio area.
Commemorate your family or the special
people in your life; remember deceased loved
ones; or celebrate a special occasion—such
as a birth, First Communion, wedding or
anniversary. A brick will cement your place
in the history of the parish while supporting
important capital projects to provide a
beautiful new outdoor gathering space and
create a more hospitable environment.
Go to the parish website (www.
holyrosaryantioch.org) to download an order
form or to order your brick(s) online. Forms
are also available at the Parish Office. Help us
pave the way to success!

A Message from Father Roberto
Jubilee Year of Mercy Pilgrimage to Oakland Cathedral
The eight Catholic parishes of our Deanery (Queen of the World in
Bay Point, St. Peter Martyr and Good Shepherd in Pittsburg, Holy
Rosary and St. Ignatius in Antioch, St. Anthony in Oakley, Immaculate
Heart of Mary in Brentwood and St. Anne in Byron) are sponsoring
a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Christ the Light to celebrate this
Jubilee Year of Mercy. The pilgrimage will take place on Saturday,
August 27. We will process up the Pilgrim’s Path at the cathedral
at 9:30 a.m., enter through the Holy Door, worship together at a
multicultural Mass at 10:00 a.m. and then return to Antioch. Our parish is going to charter a bus
for this event; the cost is $20 and pre-paid reservations are required. Please call or email the parish
office to reserve a place on the bus (Phone: 925.757.4020; Email: [email protected]).
Labor and Sex Trafficking of Minors Awareness Workshop
All are welcome to participate in the Human Labor & Sex Trafficking of Minors Awareness Workshop,
which will be held on Saturday, June 18, 9:00 am – 12:30 pm here at Holy Rosary. The workshop
will be put on by the Diocese of Oakland. Participants will pray, learn, and act for a common
purpose: ending human trafficking. Presentations will be available in English and Spanish. Please
note that human trafficking is a sensitive subject and may not be suitable for all audiences. For
more information, please contact Cristina Hernández at the Diocese – phone: 510.267.8379; email:
[email protected].
We’ve Got Work to Do
I would like to share with you some information I recently found on the Internet about our Catholic
faith and how it is being lived in the United States. “In New York, Mass attendance has fallen to
European levels, around 15 percent on an average Sunday, according to the New York Times.
In Boston, it is even lower, around 12 percent. Nationwide, only 24% of
Catholics go to Mass on an average Sunday, down from 55 percent in 1965”
(this information from http://ncronline.org/blogs/parish-diary/attempt-answerquestion-where-are-young-adults).
“In the United States, there are now 22 million ex-Catholics, big enough
to be the largest religious denomination in the country. The church drops
four members for every one member it gains, and if it were not for Hispanic
immigration, it would have been declining for decades. Yet the Catholic
Church in America also holds on to almost 70 percent of its members into
adulthood, a higher retention rate than
any other Christian denomination.
Those statistics suggest the problem for
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/
images/I/81bszFDCFLL._SL1500_.jpg
Catholicism isn't so much what happens
once people are actually in the church,
but getting them through the door in the first place. To use a
marketing metaphor, the problem isn't customer service but
new sales (information from http://ncronline.org/blogs/ncrtoday/whats-new-evangelization-thing-anyway).
My brothers and sisters, you and I have work to do. That is
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/30/
f2/53/30f253bed92bacbf9f3ab461fece66c9.jpg
where the New Evangelization enters the picture, and that is
why we have been making some changes here at Holy Rosary.
As we have been emphasizing the last two years, the reason the Catholic Church exists, and,
therefore, the reason Holy Rosary Parish exists, is to evangelize. God wants us to bring all those nonpracticing Catholics back to their faith, and he also wants us to help the unchurched people in our
neighborhoods, in our families, at work, and at school to come to know Jesus. That means you and
I have to share our faith with them in some way by our words and by our actions. And we have to
make our Masses and all our parish events inviting, welcoming and energetic. So, let’s get to work!

a Antioch. Nuestra parroquia va a alquilar un autobús para este evento;

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FaCaz3XVfDo/UYGhsHloIwI/
nuestras palabras y nuestras acciones. Y tenemos que
https://joveneslewe.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/compartir_el_

a trabajar!

Pilgrimage is more an attitude than an act. If all
you’re seeking is exercise or diversion, you might
be happier racking up miles on an exercise cycle
at the local gym. Pilgrimage is a conscious act of
seeking a more vital awareness of God’s living
presence. As was said in medieval times, “If you
do not travel with the King whom you seek, you
will not find Him at the end of your journey.”
