www.saintmike.com — Facebook: St. Michael Parish Orland Park 14327 Highland Ave., Orland Park — 708-349-0903 Voice of Saint Michael June 7, 2015 From Your Pastor Rev. Paul C. Burak St. Michael’s bulletin would like to try a new section called From the Pew, w here parishioners share how they have experienced God in their daily lives. As a faith based community, when parishioners share their testimony of how they experience God in their daily lives, we edify the Church. It is our intention to share how everyday people experience God in their daily lives by provoking others to be more conscious to how God is present with every one of us. With that said, we want to hear from you. Please write us an anonymous letter of how you have experienced God in your life. Please drop off your letter in the bright yellow box labeled From the Pew located in the narthex by the church front office. We will post one letter per week. We look forward to hearing from you. the clerk how God meant for him to have the Bible and there are no coincidences. The two of us had a conversation about God & scripture for a little while standing at the Home Depot checkout counter. The young man said it was weird because he had recently been thinking about getting a Bible but never got around to it. God brought two Christian strangers together that night to help this you man's calling to walk with God. Here is our one parishioner’s testimony: There is an open invitation if you would like to attend one of the St. Michael’s Holy Spirit Group meetings. We are a small faith sharing group. Each week, we come together to pray, discuss the Bible, learn more about church teachings and share how we experience God in our lives. As each of us shares our testimony of how God works in our lives I believe that our faith also grows. All are welcome! We look forward to seeing you. How have you experienced God in your life this last week? Leave us a note in the From the Pew yellow box located in the narthex. Brought to you by St. Michael’s Holy Spirit Faith Sharing Group I went to Home Depot one night just before the store closed. There was man standing in front of me paying for his products. At the end of the transaction he asked the young man at the cash register if he would like a Bible? The clerk accepted the Bible and the man quickly left without saying anything. I walked up and told 2 Voice of Saint Michael June 7, 2015 TAKING THE SUNDAY SCRIPTURE HOME Our readings today focus on the presence of Christ In St. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, we are reminded that the night before Jesus was crucified, he instituted the Eucharist. In doing so, Jesus ensured that each and every time we gather at His holy table and share in the bread and the cup, we are with Jesus and Jesus is with us. In the Gospel reading, from St. John’s famous “Bread of Life Discourse” we hear how Jesus is spiritual food and drink for us, through which we receive life eternal. As we listen to these passages, we are reminded not only of the wonderful mystery of the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, but also of the sacred character of sharing an ordinary meal with one another, as Jesus so often did with his disciples. We are reminded, too, about the changing of the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus and also of the transformation of the assembly into the body of Christ. St. Paul says that when we eat this bread and drink from this cup, we proclaim the death of Jesus until Jesus comes again. How do we do that? In what ways do you think you can share the life of Jesus with others? Jesus says, “Everyone who eats this bread and drinks this wine lives in me and I live in them.” We become a sacrament of his presence? How do I live a sacramental life? Are you a graphic designer? Have you designed logos? Or do you just have a good idea for our anniversary logo? Our anniversary committee is sponsoring a contest to design a special logo for St. Michael’s 150th Anniversary as a parish. Submit your design or idea to Pat Chuchla in the Worship Office by September 15, 2015. The winner will be announced the weekend of our Fall Fest on September 27, 2015. Enter early! The winner will receive two free tickets to our anniversary dinner on September 29, 2017. Leuver, husband of Alice He gave Himself to us completely for our salvation. He offers us the chance to drink from His cup. In the Eucharist, we meet Christ personally and, if we listen to Him, we know what drinking from His cup means for each of us. Often, it means our own sacrifice – giving up some of our time, talent and treasure to do His work on earth. 7 Voice of Saint Michael June 7, 2015 St. Michael Coed High School Softball Team Incoming freshman and outgoing seniors are invited to play softball this summer.
