STEWARDSHIP CORNER
Christian Stewardship trains us to become
aware that God is the ultimate giver of the
gifts we have. To give to God should be
“from the top” – not what may be left over.

Year of Mercy
What is Mercy?
Group B will have their first meeting of the year this
Wednesday, September 28, at 6:30 PM. If your child
is not yet registered, please stop by and we’ll get you
in.
Grupo B tendrá su primera reunión del año este miércoles, 28 de septiembre a las 6:30 PM. Si su hijo aún
no se ha registrado, por favor, pasar por aquí y vamos
a subir.
"Jesus Christ is the face of the Father’s mercy...Jesus,
by his words, his actions, and his entire person reveals
the mercy of God" (Pope Francis, Misericordiae Vultus, 1). "The disposition to be kind and forgiving.
Founded on compassion, mercy differs from compassion or the feeling of sympathy in putting this feeling
into practice with a readiness to assist. It is therefore
the ready willingness to help anyone in need, especially in need of pardon or reconciliation" (Fr. John
Hardon, Modern Catholic Dictionary).

LOOKING BEYOND OURSELVES
The message found in today’s readings is an oft-told story. Citizen Kane, Daddy Warbucks, and King Midas are only
a few of the familiar fictional characters who thought enormous wealth could buy happiness and fulfillment. Daddy
Warbucks admitted stepping on a few people in his climb to
the top. Kane tried to buy the printed word and stardom for his
young wife, while King Midas conjured immense wealth and
tragedy by his very touch.
We learn clearly in today’s readings that none of this is
really possible. True happiness comes from caring for someone other than ourselves. It comes from the pursuit of the virtues Paul described to Timothy: faith, love, gentleness, godliness, righteousness, and endurance. The Gospel reminds us
that we dare not ignore the needs of others, acting as though
we don’t notice their suffering. God’s call to us is much too
clear to disregard for even one more day.

WEEKLY
KNIGHT
Knights to the
Rescue
When a tree belonging
to the widow of one of our deceased Brothers posed a clear and
present danger to traffic, the Knights went out on September 10
and took care of business, saving
the risk of injury to passersby and
the cost of a professional tree
cutter. When Venerable Father
Michael J. McGivney created the
Knights in 1882, it was with this
idea in mind – that we would always be there when called
upon by the widows and orphans of our Brother Knights.

the charities we support. Under the patronage of
the Blessed Mother, the Catholic Daughters of the
Americas are united by their faith in Jesus Christ, in
their devotion to the church and the Holy See. For
example: We collect Box tops for Education to support programs at Asheville Catholic School. Box tops
are collected and sent to ACS twice a year, in April
and December. Members of the parish are encouraged to participate. Box tops may be given to any
