NOTICE OF RACE
1.
ORGANISING AUTHORITY
1.1. The Organising Authority will be the Real Club Náutico de Valencia (RCNV) with the support of
the Federación de Vela de la Comunidad Valenciana (FVCV) and the Real Federación
Española de Vela (RFEV), and with the collaboration of Ayuntamiento de Valencia and La
Marina Real Juan Carlos I in conjunction with the Soto 40 International Class and the Soto 40
European Owners Association.
2.
EVENT VENUE AND DATES
2.1. The event will be held in Valencia waters, between July the 6th and the 12th 2014. The regatta
headquarters will be located at the Veles e Vents building in La Marina Real Juan Carlos I.
3.
RULES
3.1. The regatta will be governed by:
a) The rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2013 – 2016.
b) Add to RRS 41: (e) help to recover from the water and return on board a crew member,
provided the return on board is at the approximate location of the recovery.
c) ISAF Regulation 22 for those replacement helmsmen of an owner entering for the Owner
Driver Trophy.
d) No national prescriptions will apply, except that every competitor shall be in compliance with
their National Authority Rules.
e) ISAF Addendum Q modified, Umpired Fleet Racing, will apply and changes a number of
racing rules. The version that is current when the regatta begins will appear in full in the
Sailing Instructions.
3.2. If there is a conflict between languages the English text will take precedence.
3.3. In the event of a discrepancy between the Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions, the
Sailing Instructions will take precedence. This changes RRS 63.7.
4.
ADVERTISING
4.1. Advertising will be in accordance with ISAF Regulation 20 and the class rules.
4.2. Boats may be required to display advertising as required and provided by the organizing
authority (e.g.: bow, mast, boom, cockpit, … stickers; backstay flag; …).
4.3. Furthermore, the boats may be requested to install satellite monitor equipment, which will not
interfere with the boat’s instrumentation.
5.
ELEGIBILITY
5.1. The regatta is open to all boats with a valid SOTO 40 class Measurement Certificate, which
shall have been measured / checked in 2014 by one of the official measurers of the
Championship prior to the event. It’s the owner’s responsibility to schedule this measurement
with the official measurers.
5.2. All competitors shall comply with ISAF Regulation 19 – Eligibility Code.
5.3. Teams entering the Owner Driver Trophy shall present the ISAF Group1 (ISAF Regulation 22)
certificate for replacement helmsmen.
5.4. The Registration Nationality of each team shall be decided by the owner / charterer of the boat
at the time of registration.
5.5. According to class rules, ALL helmsmen shall submit the helmsman acceptance form to
the class for approval.
6.
ENTRY AND REGISTRATION
6.1. The Entry Deadline is June the 1st 2014 at 17.00h. A completed Official Entry Form and proof of
payment of the non-refundable fee of 1000,00 € must be received by the Organising Authority
by this deadline. Entries received after this date will require and additional 500 € on top of the
entry fee. Entry acknowledgment will be sent to valid entrants shortly after entry receipt.
The Official Entry Form and all relevant documents will be sent upon request to

6.2. Minimum requirements to qualify as competitor are (documents shall be sent to the Race Office
[email protected]):
To be completed before the entry deadline (June the 1st 2014 at 17.00h):

Entry procedure (NOR 6.1) duly completed.
•
Class Measurement Certificate.
•
Proof of payment of the fee.
To be completed before the start of the practise race:
•
Crew declaration form, with a copy of passport or ID for all the crewmembers, and,
where applicable, copy of the appropriate license from the National Authority.
•
A copy of the 3rd party liability insurance.
•
Confirmation of insurance payment.
•
Helmsman Declaration form approved by the class.
•
ISAF Group 1 certificate for replacement helmsmen entering the Owner Driver
Trophy.

•
Signed Waiver Form.
6.3. Registration of Participants: Each Owner or Skipper must register and personally sign the
Registration and the Waiver Forms in the Race Office at the Veles e Vents building, before July
the 7th 2014 at 19.00 h, otherwise the registration will be cancelled and any paid entry fees will
not be refunded.
6.4. According to ISAF Regulations 10.8, 10.8.1 and 10.8.2, all boats shall display a plaque (or
produce any other evidence) that indicates payment of the ISAF class fee. The Organising
Authority shall reject or cancel any entry if such evidence is not provided.
7.
FEES
7.1. Fees are stated in Euros and include any local taxes.
7.2. The required fee is 1000,00 € for those entries made before June the 1st 2014 at 17.00 h
7.3. Entries made after that date will have an increment of 500,00 €, for a total fee of 1500,00 €.
7.4. Entry fees will not be refunded.

8.2. A maximum of 10 races are scheduled, with a maximum of 3 races per day. At least 3 races
must be completed for the event to be valid.
8.3. On the last day of the regatta no warning signal will be made after 15.30 h.
9.
MEASUREMENT
9.1. Each boat shall produce a valid measurement certificate and the boat shall have been
measured/checked in 2014 by one of the official measurers of the Championship prior to the
event.
9.2. There will be previous measurement controls and daily inspections on the water and ashore
during the racing days.
9.3. According to class rules crews will be weighed before the start of the races.
9.4. Measurement Instructions with detailed explanations referred to the above will be published
well in advance before the event (estimated May 2014), and forwarded to those teams already
entered. They will be part of this Notice of Race.
10. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
10.1. The sailing instructions will be available at the time of registration at the Race Office, only for
those boats fully registered (see NoR 6.3).
11. VENUE
11.1. La Marina Real Juan Carlos I – Edifici Veles e Vents, Valencia, Spain.
11.2. Appendix “A” shows the location of the regatta harbour and the racing area.
12. THE COURSE
12.1. Windward-Leeward races are planned. Details will be given in the Sailing Instructions.
13. PENALTY SYSTEM
13.1. According with Addendum Q.
14. SCORING
14.1. The Low Scoring System, according to RRS Appendix A, will apply.
14.2. No discards will apply.

15.1. An International Jury will be appointed in accordance with RRS rule 91 (b). It is established the
denial of the right of appeal according to rule 70.5 of the RRS: Decisions made by the IJ are
final.
15.2. Umpiring: it is the intention of the Organising Authority to have Umpired Fleet Racing using a
modified ISAF Addendum Q.
16. BERTHING
16.1. Yachts entering the event will have berths reserved for them in front of the Veles e Vents
building from July 5th to 13th 2014.
La Marina Real Juan Carlos I offers free berthing, in a different location than the regatta
moorings, between June 30th and July 18th. Please, contact La Marina Real for arrangement.

16.2. Boats shall be kept at their assigned places while in the harbour.
16.3. Berths will be free of charge and shall be occupied under the sole responsibility of each boat’s
skipper.
17. HAUL-OUT RESTRICTIONS
17.1. Boats shall not be hauled out during the regatta except with and according to the terms of prior
written permission of the Race Committee.
18. DIVING EQUIPMENT AND PLASTIC POOLS
18.1. Underwater breathing apparatus to dive around the boats are permitted. Plastic pools or their
equivalents are not.
18.2. Divers shall be registered with the Organising Authority.
19. RADIO COMMUNICATION
19.1. Except in an emergency or using equipment provided by the Organising Authority, a boat shall
not make or receive radio transmissions, including text messages or cellular phone calls, while
racing not available to all boats.
20. AMMENDMENTS TO THIS NOTICE OF RACE
20.1. The Organising Authority reserves the right to modify this Notice of Race. Any modification of
this Notice of Race carried out before July 6th 2014 will be published in adequate form (RRS
89.2) and, if possible, on the event web site ONB.
21. TROPHIES
21.1. Trophies will be given to the three first classified boats of the overall scoring.

21.3. Additional trophies can be awarded by the Organising Authority.
22. MEDIA RIGHTS
22.1. The media rights are the exclusive property of the Soto 40 OD International Class and are
shared with the RCNV and can be used under convenience, either onerous or free of charge.
22.2. By participating in the event competitors automatically grant to the Organising Authority and
their sponsors the right in perpetuity to make, use and show, from time to time at their
discretion, any motion pictures and live, taped or filmed television and other reproductions of
the sailors during the period of the competition without compensation.
22.3. Boats may be required to carry cameras, sound equipment or positioning equipment as
specified by the Organising Authority.
23. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
23.1. Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule RRS 4, Decision to
Race. The Organising Authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal
injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the regatta.
24. INSURANCE
24.1. Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third party liability insurance with a minimum
cover of 600.000,00 € or the equivalent.
24.2. Each boat captain is responsible to posses all the complementary insurance it esteems
necessary besides the one required in this Notice of Race.
25. LOCAL MARINE REGULATIONS
25.1. All participants are advised that they may participate, only, if their boat is correctly dispatched to
navigate in the waters where the regatta is to be sailed, and that the boat’s skipper has the
license to do so.

A.1 LOCATION. The Racing Area is located in the approaching of the north entry of the America’s
Cup Port, in front of the Valencia’s coastline.
The center of the racing Area will be located approximately in the following position:
