HOLY COMMUNION While the heart of the celebration of the Eucharist is the Eucharistic Prayer, the consummation of the Mass is found in Holy Communion, whereby the people purchased for the Father by his beloved Son eat and drink the Body and Blood of Christ. They are thereby joined together as members of Christ's mystical Body, sharing the one life of the Spirit. In the great sacrament of the altar, they are joined to Christ Jesus and to one another. It was also Christ's will that this sacrament be received as the soul's spiritual food to sustain and build up those who live with his life, as he said, "He who eats me, he also shall live because of me" (Jn 6:57). This sacrament is also to be a remedy to free us from our daily defects and to keep us from mortal sin. It was Christ's will, moreover, that this sacrament be a pledge of our future glory and our everlasting happiness and, likewise, a symbol of that one body of which he is the head (cf. Lk 22:19 and 1 Cor 11:3). He willed that we, as members of this body should be united to it by firm bonds of faith, hope, and love, so that we might all say the same thing, and that there might be no dissensions among us (cf. 1 Cor 1:10).13 As Catholics, we fully participate in the celebration of the Eucharist when we receive Holy Communion. We are encouraged to receive Communion devoutly and frequently. In order to be properly disposed to receive Communion, participants should not be conscious of grave sin and normally should have fasted for one hour. A person who is conscious of grave sin is not to receive the Body and Blood of the Lord without prior sacramental confession except for a grave reason where there is no opportunity for confession. In this case, the person is to be mindful of the obligation to make an act of perfect contrition, including the intention of confessing as soon as possible (canon 916). A frequent reception of the Sacrament of Penance is encouraged for all. -United States Conference of Catholic Bishop This Week YTD Regular Collection $8,075.44 $144,570.38 Operating Expenses Children’s Collection $2,011.90 $95.33 $121,041.87 $2,083.78 Youth Mass $175.00 $3,444.42 Building Fund $284.66 $5,808.75 PARISH STAFF\EMPLEADOS Clara Goertz Bertha Flores Sandra Gilliland Levi Broussard Joe Alba Rosie Letendre Brian Lemelle Debbi Lowry Bernell Sample Julia Tucker Byron Appelt Tomas Silva Leroy Lott Lydia Peña Emily Kaminski Irma Vazquez Silvia Trujillo Dennis Platt Sara Barkley David Falcon Elaine Weiss David Barkley Jim Peery Joann McCoy Silvia Castillo Ramon Magaña Barbara Bienfang Arlene Does Collin Camp Doris Reed Mary Owen Lia Lopez Briana Lopez Gilbert Pacheco Warren Beauclear Ron Sebert Richard Ashline Nova Leigth Nazaria Rodriguez Pete Vigil Sandra HernandezAdame James Robertson Sara Elizabeth Collins Joyce Cheyney Lupita Vigil Makenna Wilhelm Ronnie Broce Monique Hennington Carole Dean Charlie Pacheco Jim Pivar Deborah Reed Arthur Rivas Josh Lopez Angela Malek Myrtle Wilhelm William Lopez Jerry Meredith Liz Hurd Sarah Ramos Benita C. JUNE 1ST THROUGH AUGUST 10TH Teen members of Rise Up will offer community service hours OR work for spending money doing indoor and outdoor jobs Contact: Priscilla Ruiz, Youth Minister (512)733-4651 Fifth Sunday of Easter This week’s readings call us to live what we celebrate each week in the Eucharist: that we love one another in Christ. Our celebration is dead if it does not transform us into God’s people, a people of love and service. Paul’s ministry brought him out of the Jewish world, into the Gentile world. Who is it that needs to hear God’s word and experience God’s love from us this week? Congrats to Generosa Lowden. A very special lady nominated not only by parishioners but by Father Ramiro as well. She has overseen the Sacristans and Environment for countless years. Often times with a very small team or accomplishing all the tasks by herself. She is a hard worker and we never see her upset or complaining. She trains the sacristans, washes towels, altar clothes, and vestments. She decorates the altar for every Mass and especially for all the special Masses with special care at Christmas and Easter. She even helps decorate for sacramental ceremonies such as confirmation and first communion. Father Ramiro can always count on her to get everything done. For several years she even helped as a Wedding Coordinator. She ensures the sacristy is stocked with supplies, vestments, and has been known to spend her own money without being asked. Without hesitation she jumps right in and helps wherever needed even if it’s not necessarily related to sacristan or environment. She is often the first person in the church and the last to leave. We recognize her for her unfailing service to this parish and for being one of the most giving persons we know. She is truly a reflection of Jesus Christ in the world.
