Thanksgiving is a time to
reflect on the changes, to
remember that we, too, grow
and change from one season of
life to another.
Thanksgiving is a time of
changing seasons, when leaves
turn golden in autumn's wake
and apples are crisp in the first
chill breezes of fall.
Let us remember the true
meaning of Thanksgiving. As
we see the beauty of autumn, let
us acknowledge the many
blessings which are our...

friends and let us give thanks in
our hearts.

OPERATION MAIL BOXES
Halloween is over. Thanksgiving is around the
corner and Christmas will be next month. The
Bowie United Methodist Church is coming with the
idea “Operation Christmas for every child in town.”
On Christmas Eve, every kid between the ages of 3
and 12 years old will receive a mailing box with
gifts and we need your help. You may pack a
mailing box for children with different gifts and we
will be collecting them at our Sunday Service from
9:30 AM to 1 PM starting on November 15 thru
December 14; or give us a call to 520-847-2392 and
please leave a message and we will pick it up.
Items suggested: toy cars, yo-yos, jump ropes, toys
that light up and make noise, puppets, toy trucks,
baby dolls and Barbie, pens, pencils and sharpeners,
crayons, markers, notebooks, paper, solar
calculators, coloring and picture books, T-shirts,
socks, hats, sunglasses, hair clips, toys in general,
sport hats, or make your own items such as finger
puppets, friendship bracelet, scarfs, jewelry, hair
bows. Please be creative and use your imagination.
You may enclose a Christmas card.
Do not include: war-related items such as toy guns,
knives, or military figures; chocolate or food; out-ofdate candy; liquids or lotions; medications or
vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or
glass containers; aerosol cans.
Every box gift is a powerful tool to transform the
lives of children and their families, here, in our
community of Bowie.
Children if you want a gift box or need a gift box,
please write us a letter addressed to: Jesus, Bowie
United Methodist Church, PO Box 56, Bowie, AZ
85632 before December 15 and we will try to make
your dream true.

Ms. Kathy Morin
Ms. Kathy Morin, you may know her as the lady of
the Transfer Station, was injured in a horse accident

one week ago. Kathy and Barth were rounding up
cows on the mountains. The horse spooked and she
fell from the horse and went down 60 feet. The
rescue took several hours because of the mountain
terrain and the weather conditions at that time. She
was brought to the Banner University Medical
Center in Tucson.
She had been in critical condition, however as of
Tuesday she was out of the ICU. She was transfer to
Copper Queen Community Hospital in Bisbee to
start rehab.
She is a member of our Bowie United Methodist
Church and she is a strong lady with deep roots in
the community. We are praying for her on daily
basis and we thank you for your prayers and
inquiries about her health and status. “Therefore I
tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that
you have received it, and it will be yours.” (Mark
11:24) Let us support the Morin family and let them
know how much we appreciate Kathy.
BOWIE UMC JOURNAL
Thanksgiving Day is coming up, November 26, Memories
replace the anticipation of a sumptuous meal and the gathering
of family members and friends. Sarah Josepha Hale held a
similar view more than 140 years ago. Knowing that
celebrations were held across the country at various times of
the year, she attempted unsuccessfully to convince six
presidents to establish a nationally recognized holiday.
Not defeated, she wrote to President Abraham Lincoln. He
embraced the idea and selected the last Thursday in November
for that purpose. His first proclamation in 1863 included some
of the following words:
"The year that is drawing toward its close has been filled with
the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these
bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to
forget the source from which they come, others have been
added, which are of so extraordinary a nature that they cannot
fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually
insensible to the ever watchful providence of almighty God."
Thanksgiving Day was changed in 1941 to be observed on the
fourth Thursday in November. Thanksgiving Day has become
more of a secular holiday. The original message has been lost.
The bounties have been forgotten. Perhaps, they have been
taken for granted. The sense of gratitude for blessing received
is missing from many tables. However, the roots of the
celebration in this country are quite tied to God and Christian
beliefs.
For those who will be celebrating Thanksgiving this year,
whether religious or not, the holiday is clearly the result of a
tradition of giving thanks to God. And while those in the
modern-day do not always give thanks to any specific entity, a
general "giving of thanks" has its roots in this religious
tradition.
COMMUNITY WOMEN’S GROUP
Community Women’s group is a gathering of
women from Bowie to share a common
interest, stories, crafts, and experiences to
empower themselves to be confident, inclusive,
organized and cooperative with one another
and others.
All women in Bowie 16 years and older are
welcome to join this group. The women gather
to share an experiences, sing, laugh, tell life
stories, and to get to know each other. It is a lot

EL DIA DE ACCION DE GRACIAS
En 1620 los peregrinos viajaron desde Inglaterra a
las Américas en el barco Mayflower y
desembarcaron en Plymouth. Escapaban de las
constricciones de la iglesia de Inglaterra y de la
pobreza.
Los indios nativos de Massachusetts los recibieron
amistosamente y compartieron con ellos sus
conocimientos sobre las cosechas en esta tierra y les
enseñaron a cazar y a curar la carne de los animales
de la zona.
Para celebrar que habían logrado sobrevivir un
invierno muy duro y que tenían una abundante
cosecha que les ayudaría a enfrentar al siguiente, los
peregrinos organizaron una gran cena. Invitaron a
los indios nativos para agradecer su ayuda.
La primera celebración de acción de gracias duró
varios días. Tanto los indios como los peregrinos
compartieron alimentos, bebidas y diversión
Hoy día es una jornada de agradecimiento por las
cosechas y por todo lo que uno tiene en la vida. Hay
muchos hispanos viviendo solos y la añoranza les
priva a veces del deseo de celebrar, pero suelo
decirles que en un día como éste los amigos y los
buenos vecinos pueden convertirse en queridos
parientes y en una grata compañía para la
celebración.
Como dice una vieja canción de Julio Iglesias: "Hay
mucha gente llorando soledad". Reúne ese día a los
pocos familiares que tengas en el país e invita
también a aquellos amigos e incluso vecinos que
sepas que están solos y que probablemente pasarán
el Día de Acción de Gracias en la penumbra de sus
hogares.

próximo mes. La Iglesia Metodista Unida Bowie
viene con la idea de la "Operación Navidad para
todos los niños de la comunidad de Bowie." En la
víspera de Navidad, todos los niños entre las
edades de 3 y 12 años recibirán una caja con
regalos y necesitamos su ayuda. Usted puede
empacar una caja para los niños con diferentes
regalos y puede traerla a nuestro Servicio
Dominical de 9:30 AM a 1 PM a partir del próximo
domingo 15 de noviembre hasta el 14 de
Diciembre; o llámenos al 520-847-2392 y por favor
deje un mensaje y podemos pasar a recogerla.
Artículos sugeridos: coches de juguete, yo-yos,
cuerdas para saltar, juguetes que se iluminan y
hacen ruido, muñecos, camiones de juguete,
muñecas del bebé y Barbie, bolígrafos, lápices y
sacapuntas, lápices de colores, marcadores,
cuadernos, papel, calculadoras solares, colorantes
y libros ilustrados, camisetas, calcetines,
sombreros, gafas de sol, pinzas para el cabello,
juguetes en general, viseras o gorras deportivas, o
pueden hacer sus propios artículos como títeres de
dedo, pulsera de la amistad, bufandas, joyas,
diademas para el pelo. Por favor, sea creativo y use

Señora Kathy Morin
La Señora Kathy Morin, usted la puede conocer
como la señora de la Estación de Transferencia,
sufrió un accidente de caballo hace una semana.
Kathy y Barth estaban acorralando a las vacas en la
montaña. El caballo se asustó y ella se cayó a la
tierra. Fueron unos 60 pies de caída. El rescate tomó
varias horas debido al terreno montañoso y las
condiciones meteorológicas en ese momento. Ella
fue llevada al Centro Médico de la Universidad en
Tucson.

Ella ha estado en situación crítica, sin embargo a
partir del martes ya estaba fuera de la UCI. Ella fue
traslada a Copper Queen Community Hospital en
Bisbee para comenzar la rehabilitación.
La señora Morin es miembro de nuestra Iglesia
Metodista Unida de Bowie y ella es una mujer
fuerte con profundas raíces en la comunidad.
Estamos orando por ella a diario y le damos las
gracias por sus oraciones y sus preguntas sobre su
salud. "Por eso os digo que todo lo que pidan en
oración, creed que lo recibiréis, y os vendrá."
(Marcos 11:24) Apoyemos a la familia Morin y
hagámosle saber lo mucho que apreciamos Kathy.
