Our Focus: A coordinated school-wide effort to have all students of WSS show measurable growth in
reading comprehension through the implementation of guided reading, reciprocal teaching, and keys
to literacy strategies. We will measure growth based on DIBELS NEXT composite scores, Achievement Network and MCAS testing.
IMPORTANT May MCAS information:
5/5/14 & 5/7/14: Grade 3 Math
5/6/14 & 5/8/14: Grades 4 & 5 Math
5/13/14 & 5/15/14: Grade 5 Science
5/6-5/20/14: Make ups
We ask that you avoid, if at all possible, making
appointments during these testing times and to make
sure your child arrives to school before 8:30. These
testing dates are the statewide testing.

Dear Families,
126 families joined us for the Hero/Book Character
themed February luncheon! WSS had 158 volunteer
hours in March, bringing us ever so close to our goal
of 1000 hours for the school year! 167+ families
came to parent/teacher conferences on March 4th.
As I write this, Grades 3-5 are working very hard on
their first round of MCAS. Good luck to them all and
a big shout-out to grade 1 & 2 for cheering them on!

Response to Intervention (RTI) -Editors at Large
In preparation of Math MCAS, the focus of the 45 minute RTI block in grades 3, 4 and 5 is going to shift from
Reading to Math. The Math instruction will begin on Monday, March 31st and end on Friday May 3rd. All RTI
groups will be teaching Math. New RTI groups will be
formed based on the ANET Math data and focus standards will be identified. Each 45 minute block will consist of
10-15 minutes of fluency practice, followed by 30 minutes
of standard based Math instruction utilizing questions
from MCAS and ANET, including open response. The
enrichment groups will primarily focus on Math open response writing.
During the month of April, before school Math tutoring will
take place for selected Math students.

Estimadas Familias,
126 Familias sí unieron a Nosotros durante el Almuerzo de personajes y héroes en febrero! En marzo tuvimos 158 horas de Trabajo Voluntario, acercándonos a nuestro objetivo de 1.000 horas Para el

Respuesta a la Intervención (RTI)-Nota del editor
En preparación para el MCAS de Matemáticas, el enfoque del bloque de RTI de 45 minutos en los 3, 4 y 5
grados va a pasar de la lectura a las matemáticas. La
instrucción de matemáticas se iniciará el lunes 31 de marzo y terminará el viernes 03 de mayo. Todos los grupos
de RTI estarán estudiando matemáticas. Se formarán
nuevos grupos de RTI en base a los datos de ANET de
Matemáticas y a la identificación de los enfoques. Cada
bloque de 45 minutos constará de 10-15 minutos de práctica de fluidez, seguidos de 30 minutos de instrucción de
matemáticas utilizando las preguntas de los MCAS y
ANET, incluyendo la respuesta abierta. Los grupos de
enriquecimiento se centrarán principalmente en respuesta
abierta de Matemáticas.
