PARISH REGISTRATION We hope that all new residents of the Wilson area will feel at home at St. Therese AND will tell us of their presence by registering so that we can welcome you. Every parishioner should be formally registered. Other wise, it becomes incr easingly difficult to serve parishioners by issuing letters in connection with Baptism, Confirmation and Matrimony; it becomes almost impossible to give recommendations if we do not know you. In like manner, we cannot verify your contributions to the Church for tax purposes unless you use the regular envelopes or checks. Registration forms are located in the Tower Room, on the website, and in the Church office during office hours. Also, if you move out of the parish, please let us know so that we can wish you a fond farewell, correct our records and pass along any records you may need. Won’t you help us help you? Sunday, March 13 Noon—6pm in the school gym. We will need snack and drink donations, along with volunteers to help. RCIA—SECOND SCRUTINY On this the fourth Sunday in Lent, we continue the rites belonging to the period of purification and enlightenment for our Catechumens, now referred to as the Elect, in the RCIA program. The scrutinies, which are solemnly celebrated on Sundays and are reinforced by an exorcism, are rites for self-searching and repentance and have above all a spiritual purpose. The scrutinies are meant to uncover, then heal all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the hearts of the elect; to bring out, then strengthen all that is upright, strong and good. The scrutinies are celebrated in order to deliver the Elect from the power of sin and Satan, to protect them against temptation and to give them strength in Christ, who is the way, the truth and the life. -Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Their Godparents and Instructors ask that you keep these Elect in your prayers during this Lenten Season so that they will be ready to celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation — Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. How do you know if Mass or other church activities are canceled because of weather? No worries! Just visit our website: sttheresewilson.com. The website has copies of our bulletins, minister schedules, mass intention calendars and last minute changes in schedules. Go take a look! Ash Wednesday, February 10, and Good Friday, March 25, are days of fasting and abstinence. Fridays of Lent are also days of abstinence. Fasting is to be observed by all 18 years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed. Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence, no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, Church law does not oblige. When in doubt concerning fast and abstinence, the Parish Priest should be consulted. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and Catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for Initiation into the Church or the renewal of Baptism Promises at Easter.
