“Reflections of our Pastor”
“The glory of the Lord will come to all mankind” It will be announced as the nearness of God and his tender care (first reading) that it is
the expression of Gods kindness and his saving us by his mercy and renewed by the holy spirit (second reading) that Jesus is the bearer
and messenger.
The ending of the Christmas season is marked by the baptism of the Lord, giving way to ordinary time. Jesus presents the initiation of his
public life manifesting his deity as God’s son, bearer and messenger of the Holy Spirit. It is to indicate to us the dynamics that moves the
life of the Christian. Just as Jesus, the baptism with the Holy Spirit and fire, living in the condition as son, and by this his “ordinary” life is
daily or every day, to be conducted by the same spirit of Jesus.
I believe this is the proper time to ask ourselves, in what manner shall it be, who guides, orients, moves and pushes our life interiorly? It is
a fundamental reality in the Christian life, in such a manner, that in the response to this question it plays on our own identity. The spiritual
discernment about the spirit that moves our lives is, the key in all Christian’s road, individual and community. We start ordinary time and
the question to which I must respond is; are we guided by the spirit of Jesus or by other spirits?
And, what are the other spirits that can guide us? The letter to Titus (second reading) gives a trail “the impiety…… the worldly desires”.
Actually, education, or the lack thereof, the style of their distinct manifestation like forms of living, thinking, acting, and diverse cultures
with their ideology, acquired customs and many other realities of the human being generated internal dynamics not easy to perceive, installed in our interiors like a “malignant spirit” that conducts our worldly desires, to distinct forms of sin.
That is, the disciples of Jesus need the kindness of God our savior continually so we may be taken by his mercy, and renewed constantly
by the Holy Spirit to a reality that is easy to perceive. Like “Lecto Divina”, that is to say the continual reading and orientation of the word
(of God) will help us on this road.
We await you to learn to walk together as disciples of Jesus.

The Word Pardon can reach all….. (MV19)
It is an invitation from the pope to conversion, above all directed towards
those belonging to criminal groups that in turn move with money, persons that
promote or are accomplices in corruption. It is as if the pope can see that this
is the true problem of our century, closing it to hope. With harsh words, but at
the same time full of mercy. He invites us to conversion as if from him depends the happiness and the dignity of so many people, above all the weakest. (MV19)
Justice or Mercy?
Justice understands social order and how the law is applied, or give what is
owed to each one, it is applied in the bible to God, and is related to the fulfillment of Gods law. However, this conception is easily finished in legality. Only
the confidence in God will manifest his mercy to sinners (MT 9:13) is the
dignity of people granted, and because of this it itself converts in the rules the
lives of the disciples of Jesus, as the fundamental dimensions of Jesus’ mission.
This change in St. Paul after his conversion the vision of justice, because of
his persecution of Christians (cfr Phil 3:6), to arrive at the justification for the
faith in Jesus Christ, and not by works of law (cfr Gal 2:16), “the justice of
God is in his pardon” (MV 20)
In the meantime, justice remains a part in its direction towards mercy. Hosea
11:8-9 helps us to discover how God does not stop at justice, but goes further
with mercy and pardon. If justice remains an expiation, a fault, mercy makes
the ending of said expiation that cannot be but the beginning of conversion, to
experience the tenderness of forgiveness, God includes justice surpassing
the experience of love based on total justice. In that way, Gods justice is not
like mankind and it is given by means and reason of Jesus Christs death and
resurrection. Then, the cross of Christ is the judgement of God over us and
over the whole world because it offers the guarantee of love and a new life.

What is the Indulgence of the holy year?
The indulgence is the possibility, not only to gain pardon for our sins, but God
will pardon without limits, but also the restoration of Gods mercy, “That transforms the indulgence of the father through the spouse of Christ (the church)
reaches the pardoned sinner and frees him from all residue, consequences of
sin, allowing to act with clarity, and grow in love, better yet, not to fall into
sin” (MV22)
Here I cannot but express the same words of the pope, that a vision of indulgence from the communion of saints, that is communion in “the sacred”, the
Eucharist, “his holiness lives in help of our fragility, as the mother church is
capable with her prayers and her life encounters; the weakness of one with
the sanctity of another. Then living the indulgence of the holy year, signifies
nearness to the mercy of the father, with the certainty of his pardon that extends over all life of the believer. Indulgence is the experience of the holiness
of the church and participates in all the benefits in the redemption of Christ,
because forgiveness is extended to the extreme consciousness to which the
love of God reaches. Let us live intensely the holy year asking the father to
pardon our sins and the dispensing of his merciful indulgence. (MV22)
We will continue the Papal writing “Misericordae Vultus” (cited as MV) that
gives us the spirit of the holy year and of mercy.

La palabra del perdón pueda llegar a todos…(MV19)
Es una invitación del Papa a la conversión dirigida sobre todo a los pertenecientes a grupos criminales, que se mueven en torno al dinero, y a las personas promotoras o cómplices de corrupción; es como si el Papa viera en ellas
el verdadero problema de nuestro siglo, cerrándolo a la esperanza. Con palabras duras, pero a la vez llenas de misericordia, los invita a la conversión,
como si de ella dependiera la felicidad y la dignidad de tantas personas,
sobre todo los más débiles (MV19).
¿Justicia o Misericordia?
La justicia entendida desde el orden social como aplicación de la ley, o dar lo
que se debe a cada cual, se aplica en la Biblia a Dios y, está relacionada con
el cumplimiento de la ley de Dios. Sin embargo, fácilmente esta concepción
acaba en legalismo. Por ello sólo la confianza en Dios, que manifiesta su
misericordia con los pecadores (Mt 9,13), garantiza la dignidad de las personas, y por ello se convierte ella misma en la regla de vida de los discípulos de
Jesús, así como fue la dimensión fundamental de la misión de Jesús.
Así cambió en San Pablo, desde su conversión, la visión de la justicia, por la
que perseguía a los cristianos (cfr Flp 3,6), para llegar a ser justificación por
la fe en Jesucristo y no por las obras de la ley (cfr Gal 2,16). “La justicia de
Dios es su perdón” (MV20).
Por lo tanto, la justicia queda superada en dirección hacia la misericordia.
Oseas en 11,8-9 nos ayuda a descubrir como Dios no se para en la justicia,
sino que va más allá con la misericordia y el perdón. Si la justicia se queda en
la expiación de la culpa, la misericordia hace que la finalidad de dicha expiación no sea sino el inicio de la conversión, para experimentar la ternura del
perdón. Dios engloba así la justicia superándola en la experiencia del amor,
base de toda justicia. Así la justicia de Dios no es como la de los hombres, y
se entrega por medio de Jesucristo en razón de su muerte y resurrección. “La
cruz de Cristo, entonces, es el juicio de Dios sobre todos nosotros y sobre el
mundo, porque nos ofrece la certeza del amor y de la vida nueva” (MV21).
¿Qué es la indulgencia del jubileo?
La indulgencia es la posibilidad, no sólo de acceder al perdón de nuestros
pecados, que Dios perdona sin límites, sino la restauración, por la misericordia de Dios, “que se transforma en indulgencia del Padre que a través de la
Esposa de Cristo alcanza al pecador perdonado y lo libera de todo residuo,
consecuencia del pecado, habilitándolo a obrar con caridad, a crecer en el
amor más bien que a recaer en el pecado” (MV22).
Aquí no puedo sino expresar con las mismas palabras del Papa, que da una
visión de la indulgencia desde la comunión de los Santos, que es comunión
en “lo santo”, la eucaristía en primer lugar: “Su santidad viene en ayuda de
nuestra fragilidad, y así la Madre Iglesia es capaz con su oración y su vida de
encontrar la debilidad de unos con la santidad de otros. Vivir entonces la
indulgencia en el Año Santo significa acercarse a la misericordia del Padre
con la certeza que su perdón se extiende sobre toda la vida del creyente.
Indulgencia es experimentar la santidad de la Iglesia que participa a todos de
los beneficios de la redención de Cristo, porque el perdón es extendido hasta
las extremas consecuencias a la cual llega el amor de Dios. Vivamos intensamente el Jubileo pidiendo al Padre el perdón de los pecados y la dispensación de su indulgencia misericordiosa” (MV22).
Seguiremos presentando la bula Papal “Misericordiae Vultus” (citada como
MV) que nos da el espíritu del año jubilar de la misericordia.

“Reflexiones de nuestro Pastor”
“La gloria del Señor que verán todos los hombres” se anunciará como cercanía de Dios en la ternura del cuidado (primera lectura), que no
es sino expresión de la bondad de Dios que nos ha salvado con su misericordia y renovado por el Espíritu Santo (segunda lectura), del que
Jesús es el portador y el comunicador (evangelio).
El final del tiempo de Navidad viene marcado por la fiesta del Bautismo del Señor, dando paso al tiempo ordinario. Jesús se presenta en el
inicio de su vida pública manifestándose su identidad de Hijo de Dios, portador y comunicador del Espíritu. Es como para indicarnos la
dinámica que mueve la vida del cristiano. Así como Jesús, el bautizado con Espíritu Santo y fuego, vive en la condición de Hijo, y por ello
su vida “ordinaria”, en cuanto cotidiana o diaria, tiene que ser conducida por el mismo Espíritu de Jesús.
Creo que es el momento adecuado para preguntarnos, de una manera seria, sobre quién guía, orienta, mueve o empuja interiormente nuestra vida. Es una realidad fundamental en la vida cristiana, de tal manera que en la respuesta a esta pregunta se juega nuestra misma identidad. El discernimiento espiritual, sobre el espíritu que mueve nuestras vidas, es clave en todo camino cristiano, individual y comunitario.
Empezamos el tiempo ordinario y la pregunta a la que tengo que responder es: ¿Somos guiados por el Espíritu de Jesús o por otros espíritus?
¿Y cuáles son esos otros espíritus que pueden guiarnos? La carta a Tito (segunda lectura) da algunas pistas: “la impiedad… los deseos
mundanos…”. Efectivamente la educación, o la falta de la misma; las modas en sus distintas manifestaciones como, formas de vivir, de
pensar, de actuar; las culturas diversas con sus ideologías; las costumbres adquiridas; y otras muchas realidades del ser humano generan
dinámicas internas no fáciles de percibir, instaladas en nuestro interior como el “espíritu maligno” que nos conduce desde los deseos mundanos, de distintas formas, al pecado. Por ello el discípulo de Jesús necesita continuamente la bondad de Dios, nuestro Salvador, para ser
lavado por su misericordia y renovado continuamente por el Espíritu Santo. Una realidad no fácil de percibir. La Lectio Divina, es decir la
lectura continuada y orante de la Palabra, nos ayuda en este caminar.
Te esperamos para aprender a caminar juntos como discípulos-as de Jesús.

Señor de Esquipulas
El Cristo Negro de Esquipulas es una
imagen de Jesús Crucificado venerada
por millones de fieles de Centroamérica
que se encuentra en la Basílica de Esquipulas en la ciudad del mismo nombre
en Guatemala.
Se conoce como Negro debido a que a
lo largo de más de 400 años de veneración, la madera en que
fue tallado ha adquirido una tonalidad más oscura, aunque
esta catalogación es muy reciente. Ya desde el siglo XVII se
le conoce como el "Milagroso Señor de Esquipulas".
Se pide que todos participemos como comunidad y acompañemos a la Hermandad del Sr. de Esquipulas en estas fechas:
Novena: del 6 de enero al 14 de enero a las 7pm en la iglesia.
Misa: 15 de enero a las 7:00pm en la iglesia

The Black Christ of Esquipulas is an image of Jesus crucified that is honored by millions of Central American faithfuls
and is located in the Basilica of Esquipulas in the same
namesake city, in Guatemala.
It’s known as Black because of the color the carved wood
has acquired throughout the 400 years it’s been honored.
Also knows as “Miraculous Señor de Esquipulas” since the
17th century.
We ask that all participate as a community and accompany
the Hermandad Sr. de Esquipulas, on these dates:
Novena: Jan.6 - Jan. 14, at 7pm, in the church
