What return shall I make to the Lord for all the Lord has given me — Psalm 116 SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES
Sunday: Twenty‐eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time; National Children’s Day Monday: Columbus Day Wednesday: St. Callistus I Thursday: St. Teresa of Jesus Friday: St. Hedwig; St. Margaret Mary Alacoque; National Boss Day Saturday: St. Ignatius of Antioch; Sweetest Day STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
As Catholics, we acknowledge that there will be a Judgment Day, that final day on which Christ comes again, and when we all stand in judgment on how we have lived our lives. TheCatechism of the Catholic Church puts it this way: “When the Lord comes at the end of time to judge the living and the dead, the glorious Christ will render to each man and woman according to their works, and according to their acceptance or refusal of grace.” TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading — I pleaded, and the spirit of wisdom came to me. All good things together came to me in her company (Wisdom 7:7‐11). Psalm — Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy! (Psalm 90). Second Reading — Indeed the word of God is living and effective (Hebrews 4:12‐13). Gospel — It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God (Mark 10:17‐30 [17‐27]). The English translation of the Psalm Responses from the Lectionary for Mass © 1969, 1981, 1997, International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. All rights reserved. READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: Rom 1:1‐7; Ps 98:1‐4; Lk 11:29‐32 Tuesday: Rom 1:16‐25; Ps 19:2‐5; Lk 11:37‐41 Wednesday: Rom 2:1‐11; Ps 62:2‐3, 6‐7, 9; Lk 11:42‐46 Thursday: Rom 3:21‐30; Ps 130:1b‐6ab; Lk 11:47‐54 Friday: Rom 4:1‐8; Ps 32:1b‐2, 5, 11; Lk 12:1‐7 Saturday: Rom 4:13, 16‐18; Ps 105:6‐9, 42‐43; Lk 12:8‐12 Sunday: Is 53:10‐11; Ps 33:4‐5, 18‐20, 22; Heb 4:14‐16; Mk 10:35‐45 [42‐45] The principal author of our U.S. Bishops Pastoral Letter on Stewardship (Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response) tried to explain stewardship and how it relates to judgment in this way: “Each of us has received a garden; that garden is the many gifts and graces we have received from God. At our final judgment, the Lord will only ask us one question: ‘What have you done with the garden I gave you?’ ” That is, of course, a simplified version of judgment, but it is an accurate measure of how we may be judged. We have received gifts, varied and different to be sure, but gifts nonetheless, from a beneficent God. What have we done with those gifts? Have we used them as Christ expects us — to further and build the Kingdom, to help those in need, and to show our love for others by sharing? That is the stewardship way. Wis 7: 7‐11; Ps 90: 12‐17: Heb 4: 12‐13; Mk 10: 17‐30 San Jaime / San León

6 Monday Evenings, 7:00‐9:00 pm Oct 19, 26; Nov 2, 9, 16 & 23 St. James Ministry Center Conference Room Facilitators: Deacon Peter & Katie Hodsdon This program invites us to learn and to act in ways that will encourage Catholics—and all Americans of good will—
to respond to the Holy Father’s September 2015 visit to the United States by working together to prioritize the well‐being of people who are excluded and hurting in society. In these six sessions, we will: * Pray that God opens our hearts and minds to hear God’s Word; * Reflect on Scripture, excerpts from The Joy of the Gospel, and other resources of Catholic Social Teaching; * Examine some of the “signs of the times” in our own context—the kind of economic and social pressures affecting our families and communities; * Discern what concrete steps God might be calling us to take together as a parish to work for changes that support family and community life. Pre‐registration is required. Contact Katie Hodsdon, (858) 755‐2545, ext. *107 or Katie@stjames‐stleo.com. PASTORAL STAFF

We warmly welcome all visitors and hope you will consider making our community your parish home. Church attendance does not make you or your family registered members. Registration forms are in the brochure rack at the entrance of the church, or at the parish office. St. James—St. Leo Catholic Community is under the pastoral care of the Eudist Fathers, or Congregation of Jesus and Mary. We owe our name to Saint John Eudes who founded the Congregation in France in 1643. The Eudists currently operate in 15 countries, most of which are in the developing world. Evangelization, mainly with the poor and the youth, is our primary purpose, as well as formation to ministry in the training of diocesan priests and lay ministers. Our motto is “To Serve Christ and His Church.” For more information visit: http://www.eudistes.org/english.htm
