Grand Knights Outlook
Brother Knights,
Our Lenten Fish Fries are off to a GREAT start! We have experienced good weather for our first
three Fish Fries, our marketing efforts have really paid off, the signs around the Church are helping
to draw people to stop in and dine with us, the drive-through is growing each week and of course
lets not forget the food and service. I and many other Knights have received numerous complements on the food, the atmosphere, and our service.
We have three more Fridays to go. One of our stumbling blocks is we need more Knights to come
and join us. Your wives are welcome too! Every Knight who joins us on a Friday evening has done
a terrific job no matter what the task. We have some Knights who each Friday take on a different
task for us and they really contribute to the Fish Fry. THANKS to everyone!
I should point out that a couple of our brand new Knights have joined to help make the Fish Fries a
success. Thanks guys!
Due to the weather in January, we had to reschedule our Basketball Shootout. We held the event
on Sunday, February 14th at Notre Dame Academy. Both St. Brendan's and St. Benedict's held
their Council Shootout at 1pm and that was followed by the District 16 Shootout at 2pm. We had
two contenders: nine year old Jack Lloyd (Jack was a winner at the State Soccer Shootout last Fall)
and twelve year old Timothy Conklin. Obviously each young man became our Council champion
and moved on to the District competition.
Both of our sharp shooters won their respective District title and will move on to the Statewide competition on Saturday, March 5th at Georgia Tech. Good Luck boys!
We are going to need help at Cardboard Box City on March 12/13 and the Easter Parking detail on
Sunday, March 27th.
Keep in mind our goals for this year are:
Achieve STAR Council again.
All of our activities must reflect our values of Charity, Unity and Fraternity.
I strongly encourage all our Knights to recruit a new member and you, yourselves, to get higher
degrees.
Let’s take a look at what is coming up:
In March:
Fridays, March 4, 11, 18 - - Lenten Fish Fries
Weekend, March 12/13 - - Cardboard Box City
Monday, March 14th - - Monthly Meeting and First Degree Exemplification in the Social Hall
March, 24/25/26 - - The Tridium
Sunday, March 27 - - Easter
Sunday, March 27 - - Easter Parking – 9am Mass
In April:
Monday, April 11 - - Monthly Meeting

Lenten Again
by Bill Kelly
Again, the Shepherd
Guides all
Around trees of hubris
Over vindictive brambles
Past arrogant shrubs
Wants, passion and alchemic ways
Toward a clear, cool mystical lake by
A warm loving meadow
His name is Mercy
El Señor, an essential life skill
Mercifully, his voice repeats:
Come, again to the meadow of unity
I made it especially for you and me
“Hope!”
His word a flash of insight
Thrills a weak, wandering soul
Brings joy
A diffidently soul
Again strays toward nemesis
A twisted desire for the familiar woods
Loses again, a peaceful path,
Lonely in woods of naked pride, self-judgments and doubt
It sobs silently
Again, by name, the Shepherd calls:
“Where are you?” “I am still here!” “Come back, again, and again!”
To the fold, my love, my protection, my quiet, my joy
His voice echoes off trees, mountains and clouds
His light opens a locked heart to see, again
Again, confusion,
Again, reasons and whys call
Seek the woods of self-willed separation
Again, He calls louder
In a flower, in a song, a baby’s word
“Oneness with me!” “I am the way!”
Again, quieting a heart to trust and peace
Again, Joy begins
Again, He smiles

Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Fries Needs You
We join the Knights to become more engaged in our church and give back; however, many times due to family and work commitments, it is challenging to become engaged. We have an opportunity for all Knights to help us have the most successful
Fish Fries ever and at the same time helps us contribute to our Capital Campaign.
The first week of February, you will be receiving a call from a Brother Knight who will ask you to buy 10 tickets for a Discount of
$80.00. You have the option of using all or some for family or friends or selling them to neighbors or coworkers. We have a
church bulletin article that will inform all parishioners about the Fish Fries and enable you to sell them to fellow parishioner as
well.
Our Fish Fries begins on February 12th and continues every Friday until March 18th. The dinners start at 5:00 pm in the Social
Hall. We will offer our dine-in service, takeout in our dine-in area as well as a brand new service (drive-through) as a convenience for those who want to take home a delicious fish dinner.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask the Brother Knight when he calls or emails you.

Recruiting New Knights and Upcoming Exemplifications
Recruitment
Model for Our Times (From February edition of Knightline)
A parish priest, apostle to the young, protector of Catholic family life and founder of the Knights of
Columbus, Venerable Servant of God Father Michael J. McGivney demonstrated his holiness
through acts that exemplified his concern for the temporal and spiritual needs of his community. Father McGivney’s spirituality was grounded in corporal works of mercy, and 125 years after his death,
he is still a model for our times, particularly during this Jubilee Year. To honor the legacy of Father
McGivney, every Council is encouraged to organize celebrations on or around Tuesday, March 29.
In that spirit, be sure to ask all eligible Catholic men that you meet to join the Knights of Columbus. I

Message from our Field Agent
Plan for this Tax Day and into the Future
April 15 (tax day) is right around the corner. It’s become popular this time of year to encourage the opening of an IRA or
similar retirement annuity, or the depositing of additional funds into an existing account, as a tax-savings vehicle. Or perhaps someone has tried to convince you to open an account, touting the rate of interest that money in one of these accounts can earn. Let me join the chorus of folks encouraging you to open or add funds to an annuity, but for a different
reason.
Certainly, contributing money to a Knights of Columbus annuity will allow you to save some money on your income tax
return. And, our annuities do pay a very competitive interest rate, consistent with our primary goal of absolute safety of
principal. Opening or adding to an annuity for these reasons, however, strikes me as taking a short-term view of a product that is designed to provide long-term security. How much security? How does retirement income that you cannot outlive — guaranteed — sound to you?
Here at the Knights of Columbus, you can open a retirement annuity for as little as $300. Consistent and disciplined savings placed into that annuity over time can guarantee you an income at retirement that you cannot outlive. That guarantee — along with the fact that no one has ever lost money left in a Knights of Columbus annuity (remember – absolute
safety of principal) — really will provide you with peace of mind.
I am happy to meet with you – at your convenience and in your home – to explain in detail the benefits of opening a
Knights of Columbus annuity, along with the benefits of our top-rated life insurance, disability income and long-term care
insurance plans.

EPIC - Feb 21 – Volunteers Needed
The Faith Formation Ministry has asked the Knights for our help with
traffic control and security at the next EPIC event on Sunday, April 10
from 5:30pm – 9:00pm at the Warehouse on Post Road across from
Midway Park. Sponsored by St. Brendan’s, EPIC is an evening of live
music, friendship, and inspiring values in a safe friendly place for high
school students….. EPIC is a great place for teens to make new
friends, have some fun and grow in their love for Christ.
If you are interested in helping with traffic control and security at EPIC, please e-mail Dale Gracyalny [email protected]
All volunteers for EPIC must have a current background check on file with St. Brendan’s.

Volunteers Needed for Security at Cardboard Box City, March 12-13 at St. Brendan’s
Brothers,
On March 12-13, teens will be participating in Cardboard Box City, a 22-hour long experience of what it
means and feels like to be homeless. The teens each find a cardboard box to use as their "house" for the
night and camp out together in St. Brendan’s parking lot in the boxes. There are no cell phones, no computers, and the only food the teens eat for the 22-hour period is what an average homeless person would be
able to scrounge up in one day - half a sandwich, a small cup of soup, etc.. This activity gives teens the
chance to live in someone else's shoes and be grateful for their blessings.
Our Council has been asked to provide security for the event during the overnight hours from 9pm Saturday
to 7am Sunday. No experience is necessary, but a background check must be on file with St. Brendan’s.
Please consider volunteering for a three-hour shift, especially those Knights with teens participating in the
event. At least two Knights are required for each shift, but more makes the time pass quickly, sharing time
and witness with your Brothers.
Please e-mail Dale Gracyalny at [email protected] with your shift(s) preference, e-mail, and cell
phone and you will be scheduled accordingly.
