FG IV Scientific/Technical Project Officer Numerical modelling for security and safety of
buildings
As the science and knowledge service of the Commission,
the mission of DG Joint Research Centre is to support EU
policies with independent evidence throughout the whole
policy cycle.
With 7 Scientific Institutes, 3 Corporate Directorates and
the DG/DDG Office, the JRC is located in 5 Member States
(Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain).

The current vacancy is in the Institute for the Protection
and Security of the Citizen (located in Ispra, Italy). The
Institute provides research results and supports EU policymakers in their effort towards global security and
protection of European citizens from accidents, deliberate
attacks, fraud and illegal actions against EU policies.
Position for:
FG IV Scientific/Technical
project officer
The candidate will work in the Unit of European Laboratory
for Structural Assessment (ELSA), where he/she will be
involved in the ongoing research and standardisation
activities. The work will involve mainly numerical
calculations with finite-elements. Areas of work will
include: (1) numerical methodologies for the assessment
of structural vulnerability to severe loads, such as those
induced by blast and impact; (2) following up
developments in Building Standards and Construction
Guidelines (e.g. Eurocodes) concerning accidental actions,
robustness and avoidance of progressive collapse; (3)
support the development of the Guidelines for the
protection of critical infrastructure against terror attacks.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must have a level of education
corresponding to completed university studies of at least
three (3) years attested by a diploma AND at least five (5)
years of professional experience OR a doctoral diploma in
the field related to structural dynamics
or civil
engineering.
The candidate must have an experience in numerical or
experimental analysis of structural dynamics.
Experience and scientific publications in the field of
impulsive loading would be considered as a very strong
advantage.
Knowledge of concrete and steel design would be an
additional advantage. Good command of English (B2),
team-work abilities and communication skills are required.
