Develop academic oral vocabulary and language in Spanish! Perfect for both Spanish Speakers and Spanish Language Learners! VocabulArte is a unique oral language program designed to accelerate academic language through engaging discussions of fine art images and real-world photos from around the world! Native Spanish speakers and Spanish learners will increase their academic vocabulary without worksheets or drills. The Difference Organization High-level, academic vocabulary for both Spanish Language Learners and Spanish Speakers VocabulArte provides all Spanish-language students with the type of academic vocabulary that they will need to read and write increasingly complex texts. VocabulArte was made with the busy teacher in mind. Each lesson is based on a discussion about a single digitally projected image. The easy-to-follow two-page lessons can be taught with little to no preparation. You can use the program for two to four days a week, from 20 to 40 minutes a day. Just pick up the lessons and teach! Explicit review of previously learned vocabulary Words are deliberately revisited in context in subsequent weeks as students discuss thought-provoking images. Authentic, engaging contexts for language development Dazzling images from around the globe and across time serve as authentic, engaging contexts for language learning. Fine art and cross-curricular connections You can easily infuse fine art while reinforcing key science and social studies concepts through compelling images. Great support for dual language programs Optional parallel discussions in English of the same images provide students with the opportunity to express themselves in both Spanish and English, learning both cognates and non-cognates. Support for Dual Language Programs The program uses the same images as the lessons in Discussions4Learning, the English version of VocabulArte. In this way, your students who are acquiring literacy in both Spanish and English can revisit the same image, exploring how different words—both cognates and non-cognates—can be used in each language to discuss the images. Begin with Level A Themes Whether your students are in Elementary, Middle School, or High School, we recommend beginning all students with Level A. The images and vocabulary are sophisticated enough to use at any level, yet the lessons are accessible for students as young as Kindergarten. The program themes across the four levels are: • Cosas que vemos y usamos (Things We See and Use) • Each lesson focuses on one image. • Cambios en nuestro mundo (Our Changing World) • There are 96 lessons, one lesson for each image. The themes have been designed to capitalize on students’ curiosity about the world around them, and to allow teachers to make connections to core curriculum content in language arts, math, science, and social studies. • Nuestro mundo viviente (Our Living World) • Espacios y sitios (Places and Spaces) • Lessons alternate between fine art images and real-world photos. • Lessons are organized into four cross-curricular themes Components Each level of Discussions4Learning comes in a box containing: • Four spiral-bound Teacher’s Guides, one for each theme • A CD-ROM with 96 fine art images and real-world photos • A Program Guide with support for teaching the program • A sturdy spiral-bound 16” x 20” Portfolio is available with all 96 images for each level.
