What they lack in game experience will be made up by tradition, attitude, and hard work according to head coach Brad Dumont. The second year head coach and his staff are excited about the prospects for the coming season. Apparently they are not alone in their assessment as Texas Football Magazine picks them second in the district behind favorite Bellville in the highly competitive district 20-3A race. In spite of having the lowest enroll- ment in the district, the sultans of the swamp are determined to do whatever it takes to get the job done. Twenty-two seniors will take the field Saturday. The coaching staff has challenged them to be leaders and not let the program slip on their watch. All in all, eighty-two players have participated in the early workouts including 17 juniors, 20 sophomores, and 25 juniors. Next Wednesday, August 17th, will feature a Meet the Raiders and Lady Raiders Night starting at 6 p.m. in the high school gym. It will be an opportunity to meet the players and coaches in a casual setting before their seasons heat up. The respective coaching staffs are looking forward to the evening and are encouraging the community to come out and support the teams. The next day Rice Consolidated will host the Gonzales Apaches beginning with the freshmen scrimmage at 5 p.m. Bring your appetite along with you as the booster club will be selling hamburgers throughout the evening.
