STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
Sixth Sunday of Easter
JEANINE’S STORY
I once saved up all year to attend a
workshop. I was standing in the dinner line next
to the workshop presenter as she said loudly,
“Ah! It’s good to be alive!” That set me thinking. For
her and for me it is good to be alive. But what about the
homeless person sleeping in the park, or the person
with cancer and no insurance? What about the family
living in a tent in Haiti, the woman in Los Angeles
addicted to heroin? What about the hungry children in
a Darfur refugee camp? I wish that everyone could
have what I do. I am not arrogant enough to propose
solutions, but I know I must work for others to have a
better life in any way I can, or my gratitude becomes
meaningless. If I close the door on my Christianity and
my humanity, I become trapped in complacency. Then
I am very poor indeed.
Living Stewardship Now
Parishes are full of opportunities for you to offer
service to fellow parishioners. Local charities have
many openings for volunteers. Give some of your time
and ability to serve people in the community. Financial
donations are welcome everywhere!

LA HISTORIA DE JUANITA
Una vez ahorré durante todo un año para ir
a una conferencia. Me tocó estar al lado de la
conferenciante en la línea para cenar y la
escuché decir en alta voz: “¡Ah, qué bueno es vivir!”
Eso me puso a pensar. Para ella y para mí es bueno
vivir pero, ¿y qué de la persona que vive en la calle y
que tiene que dormir en un parque o de la persona con
cáncer y sin seguro médico? ¿Y qué de la familia que
vive en un refugio en Haití o de la mujer en Los
Ángeles adicta a la heroína? ¿Y qué de los niños
hambrientos en un campamento de refugiados en
Darfur? Yo quisiera que todos tuvieran lo que yo tengo;
pero aunque no soy tan arrogante como para proponer
una solución, sé que debo hacer todo lo que esté a mi
alcance para que otras personas tengan una vida mejor,
pues de lo contrario mi gratitud es vana. Si le cierro las
puertas a mi cristianismo y a mi humanidad, me quedo
atrapada en mi autocomplacencia. Entonces sí sería
muy pobre.
La Corresponsabilidad Vivida Ahora
Las parroquias nos ofrecen muchas oportunidades
donde podemos ayudar a las personas de la comunidad.
Organizaciones locales de beneficencia o sin fines de
lucros pueden aceptar voluntarios. Da un poco de tu
tiempo y habilidades para ayudar a las personas de tu
comunidad. ¡Donaciones de dinero se aceptan en todos
los lugares!

Bowling Contest
ATTENTION 11th & 12th
GRADERS!
The Stewardship Committee will be hosting a
$1,000 “TEEN STEWARDSHIP SCHOLARSHIP”
for interested high school juniors and seniors who best
demonstrates a lifestyle of Christian discipleship and
stewardship. There are only two basic requirements –
the student must be a parishioner of St. Mary
Magdalene Catholic Church and the ministry work or
service project must have been carried out within the
15-months prior to submitting the scholarship
application (or since February 2014). The scholarship
winner will receive a one-time $1,000 stipend which
will be paid directly to the student’s selected institution
of higher education.
Applications will be available either at the Parish
Office or on the St. Mary Magdalene website under
“Stewardship Resources.” Contest application and
supporting documentation must be submitted to the
Parish Office in person or by mail and postmarked
June 1, 2015. If applications are mailed, address them
to: St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church,
ATTN: Stewardship Committee (Teen Scholarship),
8540 Weirick Road, Corona, CA 92883-4995.

The Women of the Forever Young
Ministry CHALLENGE the “Mature Men”
of the parish to a BOWLING CONTEST! In order for
this challenge to take place, however, we need at least
eight (8) DARING Men to accept this challenge. Are
YOU DARING and ready for DEFEAT?! Both men
and women are invited to this contest. Call Marc Del
Rio at 951-642-2303 to sign up. Sign up is needed no
later than May 10th, in order for us to reserve the
lanes. Cost is approximately $14.99.

Help Us Help Others
In the Gospel today, Jesus says to us, “This is my
commandment: love one another as I have loved you…
You are my friends if you do what I command you.”
By your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you
fulfill the commandment to love one another as Jesus
has loved you.
The SVDP Food Pantry is in need of small jars of
peanut butter, spaghetti sauce (no glass jars), canned
meats (like Vienna sausages) and canned fruit. For

Meetings are held the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each
month, 7:15 p.m. at the Holy Family House.

Vicente de Paul cumple el mandamiento de amar al
prójimo como Jesús nos ha amado.
La despensa de comida de SVDP tiene necesidad
de pequeños frascos de crema de cacahuate, salsa para
espagueti (no frascos de vidrio), carnes enlatadas
(salchichas) y frutas enlatadas. Para obtener más

Corona Council 3687, is offering one $1,000
scholarship and one $500 scholarship in 2015. This
scholarship program is structured to help high school
and college students who excel at school, church, and
community service activities. For further details, pick
up a scholarship application package in the information
rack at the back of the church. Applications must be
submitted no later than July 17.

Registration is now open for Sacramental
Preparation for First Reconciliation/Eucharist and
Youth Confirmation for Fall 2015. First Eucharist is
for grades 2--8; Confirmation is for grades 9--12 . Please
register at the Catechetical Formation Office in
Modular #1.
All families are expected to support our e-giving
program, Faith Direct! If you haven’t signed up,
please bring a blank voided check and we’ll be
happy to help you get enrolled once you come into
the office.
Please bring a copy of the Baptism Certificate.
