Happy New Year, Everyone! We made it through another year, hope you had a refreshing
winter break and that you are energized for the next phase of our learning journey together.
We are looking forward to seeing you out at the upcoming events and programs. Your
child’s safety is important and we wish everyone a pleasant and safe library experience, all
children aged 7 and under must be accompanied by a responsible person at least 13 years
old and must be within visual contact of caregiver.
HOMEBOUND SERVICE
What is Homebound Service? Providing delivery of library materials free-ofcharge to Markham & Posen residents who are physically unable to visit the
library.
Who is eligible for this service?
Homebound is available to those who:
 Have health issues that keeps them from the library.
 Residents of the Markham & Posen Community.
 A valid Markham Library Card.
What materials can be borrowed?
Large print or regular books, DVDs, CDs, audio books and playaways. For more
information, please contact the library at 708-331-0130.

Markham Public Library Supports Live Tutors!
Some state and federal tax forms will

Hey Anime fans, learn about the Japanese Culture, discuss the meaning of manga and create anime

It’s a celebration for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. We are celebrating through stories, crafts,
skits and fun, also recap the “I Have a Dream” Speech and discuss what are your dreams.

American Girl (Girls on Fire)

In honor of Women’s Month, come learn the
popularity and stories behind the American
Girl doll line. There will be crafts, games and
snacks, children do not have to bring a doll or
books in order to participate. Ages 7-12.
Black History Inventions, February 7th @ 5:30pm
Learn about inventions created by famous African Americans.
African Folktales, February 27th @ 5:30pm
Come hear cultural folktales told from legends that make up our African
American History.
Easter Eggstravaganza
March 30th @ 2pm
Hop on by the library for an Easter eggstravaganza! This eggstrarodinary event will host fun
crafts and games for every bunny!

It is believed that tablets are credited to Alan Kay of Xerox. He
conceived the idea in 1971. The first widely-sold tablet
computer was Apple Computer’s Newton, the most
common type of tablet is the slate style, like Apple’s Ipad
or Microsoft’s Surface. A tablet is a mobile hand held
computer with a touch screen. Most tablets such as
Android or iOS have an operation system, and most

Are you behind in your reading? This speed-reading workshop will cover techniques to
help you read more in less time. You’ll learn, how to get an immediate boost in your reading
speed and how to improve comprehension and retention.

memory techniques to help you remember the things you commonly forget.

Mobile Hot Spot
Markham Public Library Bookmobile travels throughout the city of Markham and Posen
bringing the library to schools, daycare centers, neighborhood and businesses. Parents we will
be making stops at some of the local schools during school hours. In order for students to
check out items they must have a valid library card. We encourage you to apply for a library
card for your child so they can experience Markham’s first Bookmobile. Let’s all work together
to continue to make the Bookmobile a success! To schedule a stop at your facility or
neighborhood, contact the Markham Public Library at (708) 331-0130.
