We will discover together what it means to be inclusive. One Process will be explained. We want students to feel valued, respected and safe on Dominican’s campus. Lewis 204 Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Navigating Paying for College Paying for college can be overwhelming. This session will discuss how the financial aid process works at Dominican, the financial aid resources available and the payment plan options families can utilize while their student is in school. Parmer 108 Student Accounts and Financial Aid Navigating the Student-Athlete Experience A chance for student athletes and their families to get an overview of what it means to be a student AND an athlete at DU. Learn about important safety precautions they should know as a Dominican student. Parmer 108 Academic Enrichment Center 5 DOMINICAN WELCOME WEEK AUGUST 2015 2 p.m. 6 Workshop Description Location Department Catch the Buzz Parents and students with disabilities often don’t know about the academic and social supports services available at Dominican. Whether the student has an IEP / 504 from high school, or has been recently diagnosed with a disability, the Disability Support Services office is ready to help navigate the many resources available. An introduction to the new Kurzweil Firefly software license will demonstrate how Universal Design in education helps ALL students, not just students with disabilities. Parmer 107 Disability Support Services Foundations and the Core Curriculum This panel will present information on the core curriculum foundations requirements. Faculty teaching in the core will present information and answer questions about these requirements and the core curriculum, in general. Parmer 108 Core Curriculum Health Insurance: Questions and Answers This session will help families figure out the new health insurance landscape and how to help their student and family stay healthy. Springer Suite, Lower level of Crown Library Wellness Center March: a Civil Rights Journey at 50, a social justice immersion offered by University Ministry, was a living history lesson, a practical exploration of the social and political changes brought on by the civil rights movement. A team of 10 students and one staff member explored the ways that moments like Bloody Sunday, the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the Freedom Summer of 1964 continue to impact national life around issues of race, equity and citizenship. This panel presentation will discuss the experience and highlight ways that you can be involved in the ongoing work of social justice activism while studying at Dominican. Explore ways to have fun in college while making smart choices regarding alcohol and drugs. How can contemplation and reflection help us to be better students and better people? This session will help teach you how to take time to stop and pause in the chaos of life. Participants will have the chance to participate in contemplative practices at the Grotto and the newly constructed labyrinth. Rosary Chapel, Second Floor Lewis Hall Mission and Ministry Preparing for Your Global Future Study Abroad and International Service are two of the life-changing experiences students can take advantage of while at Dominican University. Come learn about what Study and Service Abroad are and how you can make both a reality. Learn relationship tips to help create and maintain healthy relationships. Lewis 204 Dean of Students Working on Campus This workshop focuses on how to obtain oncampus employment at Dominican. We will provide information on how to create strong applications and successful interviews and also cover details of the student employment program, including payments and how working on campus can provide for a successful career path in the future. Dominican University Dining Services will offer tips on how to do this on your own and how these tips are incorporated into the dining services meal plan. Sam, the Sinsinawa Dominicans and the Roots of Love and Truth The Sinsinawa Dominicans have always had a commitment to education being about the work of creating a home. This session will explore the ways that love and truth have been a part of the story since our founding. Learn a bit more about how the past is part of our present and future at Dominican University. Lewis Lounge, First Floor Lewis 134 Mission and Ministry Strategies for Success: Language as a Pathway This workshop will describe how language learning marks a pathway for success in college and beyond. This presentation will outline: the important and useful skills attained in language classes; the benefits of experiencing immersive, high-impact practices through community-based learning, study abroad, and internships; and how greater language proficiencies increase career marketability. Parmer 107 Modern Foreign Language The Leadership Certificate Dominican University's Leadership Certificate program is an opportuntiy for students to explore the meaning of leadership, connect with a staff or faculty mentor, and engage in a service project that can impact the community. Join us to learn about this FREE program that is open to all students, and both the personal and professional development you will find in this program. Springer Suite, Lower Level of Crown Library Office of Student Involvement Think About It: Sexual Assault on College Campuses While always being a salient issue and cause for concern, recent events and news stories have highlighted the problem of sexual assault on college campuses. This session will attempt to address and properly contextualize the issues of sexual violence on college campuses, as well as resources available to the Dominican University community, including our reporting process as detailed under the new Title IX requirements.
