“Lily of the Mohawks: A Light to the Nations”
Santa Kateri Tekakwitha
"Lirio de los Mohawks: una luz para
las Naciones"
A. The Turtle upon the Rock symbolizes how
Kateri, as member of the Turtle clan, found her
calling and purpose in life by anchoring her
spirit upon the Rock (“Petrus” or Peter) of the
Catholic Faith.
B. The handmade-crosses up on the trees
reveals the cherished pastime and creative devotion of this Saint who loved to fashion and place
crosses upon the trees of the
forrest, as
tangible reminders of the
endearing and enduring Presence of God.
C. The gathering of pine cones into the
woven
basket represents her call to an apostolic life whereby Kateri
lovingly draws souls to Christ. Each pine cone represents a
soul whom she nurtured into the Faith.
D. The lily plant with three lily flowers symbolizes the Christian
teaching that there are 3 Divine Persons in one God who is the
Source of all fulfilling Love. Moreover, it especially refers to
Saint Tekakwitha’s title as “Lily of the Mohawks.”
E. Within the solitude of the forest, our beloved Saint learns the
simple yet profound lesson of the Spirit in Scripture: “Be still
and know that I am God.” As Saint Kateri perseveres in the
call to prayer and personal
meditation upon the Life
of Christ, God graciously
bestows upon her
soul the Gift of Contemplation. This gift may be understood as
when a soul ascends further along the spiritual journey towards
union with God, He gradually (and actively) brings the faithful
soul into a restful surrender, a deeper longing, and transforming
experience of His Loving Indwelling Presence.
F. The radiant portrait figure of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha
attempts to illustrate the mystery of
Indwelling
Presence of the Trinity, the transfiguration of the soul through
the grace of God’s Light and Love:
The Light enveloping her represents the all
encompassing presence of the Eternal Father,
The Dove resting in her palms represents the Holy Spirit
and His many gifts,
The 1st butterfly perched upon her knee represents Saint
Kateri pursuing the Life of Christ who is represented by the 2nd
butterfly resting upon her shoulder.
G. Saint Kateri gazing towards the heavens represents her soul
contemplating the Light of Christ, that is, “Lumen
Christi.”

Scrip Program
We’re pleased to share some information about one of our
fundraising programs at St. Kateri. It’s called “Scrip”, and it’s
the fundraising program that works while you shop.
Scrip is simply a word that means “substitute money” – in
other words, scrip is gift cards from national and local retailers. They’re the same gift cards that you buy at the
store. Some popular retailers in our scrip program include
Arco, Home Depot, Walmart, Stater Bros. and many others.
Scrip is simple --- participating retailers agree to sell gift
cards to St. Kateri at a discount. You buy the cards for full
face value and redeem them for full face value. St. Kateri
keeps the difference as revenue.
You earn money for St. Kateri without spending a single additional penny. And scrip can be used for just about any
household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment,
gasoline and dining out.
We keep all Scrip from our local retailers, plus some other
popular retailers on-hand in the parish office. For your convenience we also sell Scrip after masses on Saturday and Sunday. If we don’t have what you want on-hand, let us know and
we will place a special order. For a complete listing of retailers stop by the parish office.

What is SB 128?
La comunidad de Santa Kateri Tekakwitha desea que
todos los feligreses vivan en la gracia de Dios. Nos hemos
dado cuenta que la economía es una de las causas
porque no recibimos el sacramento del matrimonio. Por
esta razón queremos comunicarles nuestro deseo de
organizar una boda comunitaria en nuestra parroquia en
este año. Les invitamos a todas las parejas que no han
tenido todavía la gracia del sacramento del matrimonio
que aprovechen la oportunidad que se está ofreciendo.
Este plan se lleva a cabo en dos pasos. Primero se
arreglan todos los requisitos según las reglas de la
Diócesis con nuestros sacerdotes y toman los cursos
enseñanzas de prematrimonial. Segundo se reunirán
todas las parejas para ponerse de acuerdo sobre la fecha
de la boda y como la celebraremos.

SENT BY GOD
In Amos’ time the vocation of prophet had achieved a very
formal status in Israel. The prophets had arisen,
originally, to act as God’s voice when Israel was no
longer led by the spiritual/civil figures known as “judges,” but
by monarchs. Over time, the monarchy had
appropriated the offices of priest and prophet, established them
into companies, and reserved the right to appoint courtly
prophets. Then, as now, when those in power also got to
choose who would act as their official conscience, things
sometimes went awry. At such times, God raised up prophets
from unlikely places, and this is how Amos received his vocation as prophet. In last week’s Gospel we heard how Jesus was
raised up as God’s anointed from a place many viewed as
unlikely. As we continue to discern our own vocation as baptized disciples, we can be assured that we are, in Paul’s words,
“chosen, destined in accord with the purpose of the One who
accomplishes all things according to the intention of his
will” (Ephesians 1:11).

En la época de Amós la vocación de profeta había adquirido una posición muy formal en Israel.
Originalmente los profetas habían surgido como los
portavoces de Dios cuando Israel ya no se veía guiado por las figuras religioso-civiles a quienes conocemos como los “Jueces”,
sino por los Reyes. Al correr del tiempo la monarquía de Israel
se había apropiado los oficios de
sacerdote y de profeta, estableciéndolos como órdenes, y reservándose el derecho
de nombrar profetas oficiales para la corte real. Entonces, como ahora, cuando los que estaban en el poder escogían a los
que iban a servirles de “conciencia oficial”, a veces las cosas se
torcían. Y
entonces Dios escogía profetas de donde
menos se les esperaba. Así fue como Amós recibió su llamado
a
profetizar. En el Evangelio del domingo pasado vimos cómo Jesús surgió como el Ungido del Señor aunque
venía de un lugar que muchos consideraban poco
probable. Y nosotros, cuando continuamos discerniendo nuestro propio llamado bautismal a ser discípulos,
podemos estar seguros de que estamos, en las palabras de san
Pablo: “destinados [para eso], por decisión del que lo hace todo
según su voluntad” (Efesios 1:11).
