The IGCSE Programme 2016 and 2017
The programme of IGCSE subjects that the school offers has grown and changed
considerably in recent years. Moreover, in addition to the IGCSE programme each
student in 3YL has 12 liceo subjects and a student of 4YL has 10 such subjects.
That is, more demands are being made of our students in 3 and 4YL than ever before.
The elimination of F6 Uppers in Junior and the consequent passage of the “Double
Generation” through Senior has definitively changed the age profile of students in
Senior. And it is in response to these two factors that this document is presented.
The 2015 IGCSE examination session was disappointing – especially for students of 3YL
2015. The results have been analysed, lines of action suggested, and all of this shared
with the community.

The pattern for 4YL 2016 follows a very similar pattern to that of recent years. The points
to note are:
1. The two newer subjects, Combined Science and Global Perspectives, may not be
offered to the whole year group.
2. English First Language and English Second language classes for 4YL students will
be offered in a timetable outside of the normal school day for those students
who wish to retake this examination. These classes will start, at the latest, after
the Easter break. The likely timetable is:

The pattern for 3YL 2016 reflects the end of the transition heralded in by the “Double
Generation” – and is moderated by the experience and results of recent years. All
students are now one year younger in their year group – and it is necessary to modify
the pattern of examinations in order to reflect this reality. This change brings The British
Schools into line with the great majority of schools offering IGCSE and IB Programmes.
That is, IGCSE programme operates for students aged 14-16, and IB for students aged
16-18.
It is hoped that these proposed changes serve to establish a firm base for students’ preIB studies, and for successful outcomes to IGCSE examinations. Moreover, after several
year of constant change, it is an aspiration that the pattern suggested for 2016 3YL
students will endure for several years.

El programa de las materias IGCSE ofrecido por el colegio ha crecido y cambiado
considerablemente en los últimos años. Adicionalmente al programa IGCSE, cada
alumno de 3er. Año tiene 12 materias de Liceo y un alumno de 4to. Año tiene 10
materias.
Esto significa que los alumnos de 3ero. y 4to. Año de Liceo están siendo más exigidos.
La eliminación de los F6 Uppers en Junior y el pasaje consecuente de la “Generación
Doble” a Senior, ha cambiado definitivamente el perfil de la edad de los alumnos en
Senior. Es en respuesta a estos dos factores que se presenta este documento.
La sesión de exámenes de IGCSE en 2015 fue decepcionante – especialmente en el caso
de los alumnos que cursaron 3er año de Liceo en 2015. Los resultados han sido
analizados, sugiriéndose acciones a tomar, y
compartiéndose esta información con la Importante:

El modelo para 4to. Año de Liceo es similar al de los años recientes. Los puntos a resaltar
son los siguientes:
1. Las materias más nuevas, Ciencias Combinadas y Perspectivas Globales, pueden
no ser ofrecidas a todos los alumnos de ese año.
2. Las clases de Inglés como Primer Idioma e Inglés como Segundo Idioma para
alumnos de 4to. Año de Liceo se ofrecerán fuera del horario curricular para
aquellos alumnos que deseen dar nuevamente este examen. Estas clases
comenzarán, a más tardar, después de la Semana de Turismo. El horario
probable sería:

El modelo para 3er. Año de Liceo en 2016 refleja el final de la transición proveniente de
la “Doble Generación” – y es moderado en base a la experiencia y a los resultados de
los años recientes. Todos los alumnos ahora tienen un año menos en su año de grupo –
y es necesario modificar el modelo de los exámenes a efectos de reflejar esta realidad.
Este cambio hace que The British Schools esté alineado con la gran mayoría de los
colegios que ofrecen los Programas IGCSE y IB. Esto significa que el programa IGCSE
está dirigido para alumnos entre 14-16 años, y el IB para alumnos entre 16-18.
Se espera que estos cambios propuestos sirvan para establecer una base firme para los
alumnos en sus estudios anteriores al IB, y para que tengan resultados destacados en
los exámenes de IGCSE. De más está decir, que luego de varios años de cambios
constantes, se pretende que el modelo sugerido para los alumnos de 3er. Año de Liceo
de 2016 perdure por varios años.
