26TH SUNDAY, ORDINARY: In today’s Gospel;
Jesus' parable points to
God’s loving concern for
those who are in need now
and to the abundance and
consolation they will receive in the age to come.
Similarly, those who refuse
to show mercy to those in need will be punished forever.
“ Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. ” Proverbs 11:4
YOUTH
Catholic Youth Day
Will be October 5th at Kings Dominion, leaving at
7am, the cost is $65 and is due by September 27th.
Permission slips will be given out during RE classes
and at Youth Group meetings.
Hope to see you there!
Question of the week: The rich man had more than
enough food to share with Lazarus—what surpluses
do we have in life? Who might be grateful even for a
scrap of these?
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament: Next week
will be a Francis of Assisi first ever. We will celebrate the feast of our Patron Saint by offering Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. There is a sign up
sheet in the commons, let’s try to fill all the time
slots. You can sign up for 1/2 hr, one hour, two, or all
day, it’s up to you. Afterwards we will gather for our
feast day picnic.
Francis of Assisi Feast Day Picnic: Don’t miss out on
the fun. Next Sunday, October
6th at 4:30pm. There will be
food, fun, and fellowship. The
Parish Council will be providing
hamburgers, hotdogs, buns and
condiments. There are sign-up
sheets in the commons for any
side dish you can bring and how many family members
we can expect. If you can help with any preparation
please call parish office.
Health Care Education Forum: Next Wednesday,
October 2nd at 10:00am, there will be representatives
from AmeriLife and Health Services of Roanoke
County downstairs in the Social Hall. They will not
be selling anything and are only here to provide anyone who needs it with information on the basics and
changes of Medicare, Medicare options, Medicare
prescription drug plans, and how to spot problems
with your Life Insurance. This will be open to the
public.
Hospitality: Unfortunately, we are losing one of the
families that help with Hospitality (serving of coffee and
donuts after mass) and Greeting at the 8:00am Mass on
Sunday’s. If you think this would be a way for you to
better serve your Church and neighbor, please see JoAnna Cruz in the Church office or call (540) 483-9591.
2013 Annual Diocesan
Appeal:
Solidarity in Mission
Last week, many of you received a letter from Bishop DiLorenzo asking for your support of the 2013
Annual Diocesan Appeal. We hope you will give
prayerful consideration to this request.
The Appeal not only provides an opportunity for you
to support important ministries that impact many programs outside of our parish boundaries, it also supports the services the Diocese provides directly to our
parish. In complement to the funds returned to our
parish through the parish sharing formula, the Appeal
also benefits us through the following ministries and
programs: Support for the on going Ministry and
birthday celebrations provided to the patients at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab Center, Agricultural
projects in Trianon and around St. Ann’s Parish in
Trianon, Haiti, the Rescue Mission, Fuel and Hunger
Fund grants, youth and young adult ministry, retired
and international priests.
All pledges can be paid in ten monthly installments
which makes it easy to support the important ministries of our Diocesan Church while also supporting
our parish needs. Thank you in advance for your
partnership in the 2013 Appeal.
Being Obedient
Those who find obedience demeaning ought to consider the most obedient person in history: Jesus
Christ.
