In today’s Gospel, Jesus relates a parable to the disciples about the necessity to pray always
without becoming weary. The parable tells us of a judge who neither feared God nor respected any human being. The judge renders a decision on behalf of a woman who continually comes to him to answer her petition. Our Lord asked us to pay attention to the fact
that the judge does so in order that he will not be struck by her. Jesus stated “Will not God
then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be
slow to answer them? I tell you he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily.”
Let us not grow weary in our prayers, but continue to petition our Father in Heaven for our
needs. If you are able, please prayerfully consider pledging to the Capital Campaign.

Year of Faith
The Year of Faith - Four Year Plan: Year Two
A year ago, on October 12th, the universal Church began the celebration of the Year of Faith. While dioceses and
parishes planned events and activities, the U.S. Bishops also devised a four-year strategic plan. The first year coincided
with the Year of Faith and focused on faith in order to help Catholics deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and
increase their knowledge of the teachings of the Church. The second year will focus on worship and parish life with an
emphasis on deepening our understanding of the Mass and the celebration of the sacraments. For each year, the plan
includes goals and ideas that support any New Evangelization efforts, highlighting the work of other bishops’
committees.
29th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
Matthew 5:9
What is peace? Peace is the fruit of love, of the two great commandments to love God and our neighbor. By our
baptism we are called to be peacemakers, to pray for and to bring about peace. How do we demonstrate respect and
compassion for others? In what concrete ways are you striving to become a peacemaker in your home, workplace, and
community?

Never stop praying. Have faith and
never give up! Jesus tells us that
persistence will pay off, if we continue
to pray to God. How and when do you
pray? How could you grow in the ways
that you pray?
Let us pray for steadfastness in our
belief that God hears and guides us
always.
Our Sunday Visitor Life Long Catechesis
Did you know…?
Did you know that Halloween was
originally a Catholic celebration?
Halloween’s name was originally
“All Hallows Eve” or “All Holy
Eve” because it is the last day before the
Catholic Feast Days of All Saints Day
(celebrated November 1st) and All Souls Day
(celebrated November 2nd).
Nunca dejen de rezar. ¡Tengan fe y
nunca se den por vencidos! Mientras
creces, tiendes a "necesitar" a Dios
cada vez menos. Pero hoy, las lecturas
nos dicen que recemos con mucha fe.
¿Por qué crees que ésta es una
enseñanza clave de Jesús?
Oremos por constancia de nuestra
creencia de que Dios escucha y
siempre nos guía.

The Trappist Monks of New Melleray Abbey in Peosta, Iowa
The Rule of St. Benedict requires monks to earn a living by the work of their
hands. The monks of New Melleray support themselves by making simple,
natural wooden caskets and urns. Their community says that they “feel
blessed to be able to perform this corporal work of mercy for families who
suffer the loss of a loved one and to support ourselves in the process.” A
Trappist Casket is a responsible, uniquely fitting expression of our shared
belief in the dignity of Christian death. They are here to serve.
